I was just wondering what your thoughts on Freddie Mercury were. He was an amazing vocalist, and I was watching performance he gave with Queen during the Live Aid concert in '85.

Figured I would start a thread for discussion.

Good artist, but I don't like his voice, most of his music style and the comercial/pop direction he had taken in the second part of his career.

So, yeah I'm no fan of Queen, but I acknowledge that they'd left some truly great songs, like Bohemian Rhapsody and Who Wants To Live Forever (from Highlander).

True his music did take a pop direction, but yeah Bohemian and Who Wants to Live Forever are great.

Although personally I like The Show Must Gone as well... It's just such a fucking haunting song when you think about his lifestyle and death.

The voice part though... It's amazing, he could hit Bass, Tenor, and Alto notes and keep his natural voice... Plus from what I have seen and heard he was probably one of the best live performers of all time.

I am a big fan of Queen. I think that it is from my dad being a big fan of Queen. My favorite song of theirs is Bohemean Rapsody. I think that Freddy was a good singer, even with the pop direction of his songs. Also, the song Princes of the Universe, which is based off of Highlander and was used as a theme for the TV series.

Freddie didn't die because he was gay... He died because he tried to beat Wilt Chamberlains record, and he tried to do it unprotected.

You know his estate was only valued at 12 million after his death? Apparently he gave everyone around him really nice shit.

I like most of their songs even the unknown ones.

I'm a fan. I won't say big, there's always bigger fans. And unlike, say, the Beatles, I can't listen to most of Queen's albums in their entirety. They, and particularly Freddie, are great though. My favourite song is Don't Stop Me Now... dunno how much of that was Freddie off the top of my head... he has a nice voice though.

Freddy was Wild, Crazy, and lived a true rock star life.


Plus, when he sings "Under Pressure" especially with David Bowie its FANTASTIC

And "We are the Champions" is brilliant. Tragic loss for the world.
