Okay, this is one of my favorite shows on TV (along with Lost and the Sopranos)

It is genius and I adore it. If you can't watch it, download it. WHATEVER IT TAKES!! The guy is HILARIOUS! It may be the best hour on tv with him and the Daily Show.

Anyway, there are 3 (THREE!) pieces of Fanfic involving Steven Colbert, (who is a hardcore LOTR fan.)

This one is my favorite as it doesn't require knowledge any outside, but the Steven in Middle Earth one is also great ESPECIALLY if you're somewhat familiar with LOTR (I was once a hardcore fan).

The link: http://www.colbertnation.com/colbertnation/fanfic.jhtml

and here's the story:

By Kim B.

Shorts Weather

Dateline: San Antonio, Texas, site of the Republican National Convention. It's a blistering day in late summer, one of those muggy affairs where the humidity's off the charts and it feels 20 degrees hotter than what it says on the thermometer. In short, it's shorts weather. Short shorts weather.

Given the hellish conditions, O'Reilly shouldn't be surprised to see Stephen emerge from the bathroom wearing desperately cropped cutoffs. But these shorts' particular cutoff is, quite frankly, shocking - we're talking well above the thigh. It's suddenly the slightest bit warmer in the room, the lack of air conditioning only somewhat offset by Stephen's icy-cool demeanor as he sports what might as well be a set of denim bikini briefs.

"Looks like the only thing failing to spin in this zone are the rotors on our air conditioner, eh O'Reilly?" deadpans Stephen, focusing his trademark stare squarely on O'Reilly's quivering eyes. But O'Reilly can't meet his gaze - to him, the shorts are like a car accident, in all the right ways.

"Who would've thought, Stephen Colbert and Bill O'Reilly, cooped up in a tiny one-bedroom press dorm for the duration of the RNC," continues Stephen, nonchalantly resting one foot on the bed in a seemingly innocent but, from the perspective of his shorts, deliciously provocative way. O'Reilly tries to tear his eyes away from Stephen's ensemble, but finds that his muscles will not obey his brain's desperate command.

As the sweat beads on his forehead, Bill swears to himself that there was plenty of hotel space in '04. Not to mention the fact that he hasn't seen any other press personalities in the dorm, and they've already been here for a few hours. Is it really possible that they're alone? It's his greatest, most secret fantasy - and yet he can't help but feel disgusted with himself for being so completely at Stephen's mercy.

With a puckish grin, Colbert stands and in one fluid motion whips off what we now see are breakaway short shorts, revealing an even smaller and tighter pair of khaki short shorts underneath. The expression on O'Reilly's face is priceless, and Stephen stops to savor what is surely his finest moment in journalism.

O'Reilly, frantic to get some kind of substantive conversation going, manages to stammer out a pathetic "Let's talk about the nominees." With the grace of a trained dancer, Stephen leaps up onto their room's twin-mattress Murphy bed. Finally succumbing to temptation, O'Reilly submissively adds, "Personally, I think this convention belongs to the brash young stud from South Carolina."

Colbert is in his element; he knows exactly how to play this, because he's played the scenario out a thousand times in his mind. Gesturing languidly toward O'Reilly, he purrs, "South Carolina recognizes the gentleman from Levittown, New York... provided Levittown can defeat South Carolina in a no-holds-barred Greco-Roman wrestling match." In the time it takes O'Reilly to blink, Stephen's chest is suddenly covered in glistening oil.

"Colbert," says O'Reilly, eyeing Stephen's shorts as he gets into a ready stance, "you have got to introduce me to your tailor."

End of Book One

I highly recommend checking out colbertnation.com It really captures the tone of the show. If you never seen him, go to youtube.com and get the debate he had with Chance something (It was really David Cross) then check out the interview recently done with Al Franken. Then check out "I have a Dreamsicle" speech Steven made on Martin Luther King day.

I love Colbert, and he is a great guy with his no so subtle mocking of the FAUXNews wing-nuts on the right...

But Jon Stewart is much funnier, AND far more intelligent. I am NOT saying that Colbert isn't funny (he is far from it)... I AM saying that Jon Stewart is a genius, and while Colbert never ceases to make me laugh my ass off, Stewart has done it more frequently.

Until Colbert does something major (like getting a show like CrossFire cancelled), I will prefer Jon Stewart.

With that said, I love Colbert's show :)

I voted for Colbert, but it was a close call. I've laughed more to his stuff than Jon Stewart's, recently.

I absolutely love both of the shows! The Colbert report and the Daily Show are about the only thing I watch on TV anymore (well, besides the occasional Law and Order episode). People, if you have't ever seen these shows, you need to!

That said, what's with all the Fox news hate? Don't you people know they only do what they do for the good of America? :D

Stewart feels like he's doing the kind of banter that I usually do with my friends. Stephen's faux bravado feels more unique and comical. Jon points out absurdity through wit, Stephen, by being uber extremist in his views.

(Declaring a whole congressional district as "non-existent" because "Dead to me is too good for you. I'm not going to even acknowledge you ever existed." Its hilarious, yet somewhat reminiscient of what right wingers do with "blue" states, (although I do similar things to the "heartland" on occassion.) ;)

Both are brilliant, but I go with Steven. Frankly, Jon's mock speechlessness and bafflement are great at pointing out the absurdities of the political system, but Stephen, although clearly facetious, seems somehow more sincere. Plus I love his absurd proclamations "Bears are EVIL!" Something that Jon never does (at least not with the same conviction).

True, Jon's show is a lot more like banter between friends. . . But beneath all of that, he gets things done.

I guess the main reason I dislike Colbert is because several of his extremist viewpoints match the REAL viewpoints held by some members of my family (with whom I no longer speak). So to me, it isn't necessarily funny... It's just sad. And slightly pathetic.

Ahmen.

Stewart gets my vote, because Colbert reminds me just how horrific these peoples viewpoints are, especially the consequences of their actions. One of these recent episodes when he asked some guy When America had its Morals straight, I wanted to shoot my television at the smirk the guy had, Stewarts never brought out that reaction, merely laughs.

Steven Colbert is currently my favorite TV show anchor.

The man is incredibly funny, and he takes his humor to the maximum possible level. He uses his facial expressoins and whatnot excellently as well, and he's pretty much the best at sarcasm.

BTW: Ron White has a show on Comedy Central tonight at 9...catch it, it should be great.

Jon Stewart? I love him, but i have to say, the humor isn;t as funny. He picks the right topics to blast, but his humor is generally just pointing out ridiculous things that people say, and then adding a quirky punchline.

Have you guys noticed something about the Cobert Report?

Have you noticed how he says "The Coal-bear Re-pore? He leaves out the 't' in both words. Quite funny.

Yeah...Colbert is the man, humor wise. Topic wise? Stewart.

That irks me badly, I notice it almost every time I watch it now...

To much sarcasm, despite being funny, still makes me want to pimp slap my T.V with an axe.

Gotta go with Colbert. I love 'The Word' it's the best journalism piece on comedy central...

You and Sirhin have a problem with bumping dead topics. At least you had something semi-intelligent to say even if your grammar was appalling. I prefer Colbert by a long shot. When he interviews the people they don't even realize he is insulting them half the time.

Did you ever notice he hates bears and yet the last part of his name is pronounced bear? At any rate Colbert gets my vote because he got a congressman to say, "I enjoy cocaine because it's a fun thing to do," that is all I need to hear to decide who is better.

The interviews are by far the best part of his show. The way he gets famous people to say outlandish things that they would never say otherwise is HILARIOUS!

Said Congressman is running in an uncontested election and Colbert was trying to get him to say "Things that would make you lose an election." I liked his followup piece where he attacked Good Morning America and Today.

Stewart still has my vote.

I like both shows, but I will have to go with John Stewart because of previously mentioned opinions.

I have to bring up there banter when going from one show to the other though...hilarious.

Stewart gets my vote, Colbert is funny but his show is aimed more at comedy then anything else. Jon seems to have a point to his mocking as he explained in that crossfire episode.

Colberts show isn't just about Comedy -- it's about pointing out the absurdities of the "Truthiness" doctrine followed by many of the right wing demagogues.

It was Stewart for me, but it was damn close. The White House address vs. That Crossfire appearance, hmm... Prolly the Crossfire show... What clinched it for me was the afore mentioned pronunciation of Colbert's name. I have to stop myself saying Col-bert and say Col-bere, like it's some kind of fucking cheese. Now I'm not sure if he was named that was at birth or not, his naming may be no fault of his own, but I'll still hold it against him.

That and the fact with The Daily Show you find yourself laughing (or in my case, slightly twitching upwards of the lips) as much as nodding, whereas The Colbert Report promotes more nodding. I like both, but Stewart's way is definitely better for reaching the masses.

This is hilarious. Colbert telling Elanor Holmes Norton that D.C. isn't a part of the U.S. I know it's a link but I figured it goes with this discussion. As I stated before my vote goes to Colbert.

I guess I've just stubbornly stuck by the Daily Show's side. I mean, I watched two epps of the Report and didn't think much of Stephen, but after watching that White House dinner, and listening to a lot of my friends tell me he's funnier (and after this thread), I might have to check out some more epps.
