I want to make a thread where people can recommend songs or artists to each other seeing as there are people from around the world on this thread. You should post the name of the song and the artist/s and a description of the song. Please don't flame other people's taste in music friendly banter is fine but don't try to degrade the person. I guess I'll start.

If I ever feel better - Phoenix

This song is one of my favorites, it has an upbeat hip-hop beat but the lyrics are melodius and nice to listen to. It's a song that makes you tap your feet and bob your head to the rhythm.

Paradise - The Panic Division
Blunt Force Trama - Liquid Gang

Two ends of the scale. Liquid Gang is a bit harder, sounds sort of like Sevendust and HED(PE)

The Panic Division is more a melodic rock sound. Its got some nice electric rock instrumentals, and vocal-centric aesthetic, minor tonality and subtle vocal harmony.

china is where western music comes to die.

hence, why the backstreet boys are coming to beijing for a concert.

i've managed to stay sane by listening to a lot of flogging molly and the pogues.

yes, punk/folk irish tunes are the best.

so my recommendation is Seven Deadly Sins by Flogging Molly. great drinking song.

Writing a Letter - The Smoking Popes (http://www.smokingpopes.net/Smoking%20Popes-WritingaLetter.mp3)

Brings a complete and total smile every time I hear it.
Just as much fun to sing it yourself too.
Such a classic track by a band that I actually jumped for joy when I heard they got back together.

(If anyone has any other *legal* links to their indicated songs it'd be appreciated. I've not heard hardly any of these.)

Billy Joel's "Slow Down You Crazy Child"

It makes me feel real wistful. ITs great. This is the most underrated Billy Joel song ever, and happens to be my favorite. Genius.

I also HIGHLY recommend www.pandora.com

This website lets you type in a song you like, and will find similar stuff, and let you hear that other stuff. YOu can give the stuff they play a thumbs up, down, or do nothing, and move on.

They WILL NOT play the song you type in. Apparently a "licensing" issue. BUt its fantastic.

Check it out.

In My Time of Dying by Led Zeppelin (classic rock)

11 minute epic about death. The first time I've listened it for real was just after my grandma died, so it always gives me the creeps.

Vicarious -- Tool

Well I like all of Tool's songs. Here is a website that has a few of there music vids on it as well as there lyrics. http://toolshed.down.net/lyrics/10kdayslyrics.php#01
You should read the lyrics of the songs as well as listen to them to get there full effect.

Hmmm...

Innuendo -- Queen
Bohemian Rhapsody -- Queen
Francis Farmer Will Have Her Revenge on Seattle -- Nirvana
Johnny Was -- Bob Marley
With God on Our Side -- Bob Dylan
Better Dayz -- 'Pac
The Man Who Sold the World -- David Bowie... But the I prefer the Nirvana Cover of it
The End -- The Doors. This song was in the opening of Apocalypse Now
Dirty Harry -- Gorillaz
Dare -- Gorillaz. This song is flat out addictive.
Twisted Sense of Gods -- Fine Arts Militia feat Chuck D. This song is a flat out 5:31 long rant about more or less everything.
Civil War -- Guns N Roses
For America -- Jackson Brown. This song was a reaction by Jackson Brown to America's foreign policy decisions made under Reagans Administration.
The Star Spangled Banner -- Jimi Hendrix at Woodstock. This is just a fucking sweet guitar solo.
Floyd the Barber -- Nirvana, great song from their first album.
Blew -- Nirvana, great song from their first album.
Californication -- Red Hot Chili Peppers
Mothers of the Disappeared -- U2
Where the Streets Have No Name -- U2
Just about anything from Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon or The Wall albums.

And thats all I can think of off the top of my head....
