Inspired by the 50th 'your favorite' thread, I ask DLPers: what do you think are the best currently updating fics out there? If it's abandoned, completed or anything in between, you need not comment!

To start off, Error of Soul by materia-blade is the ultimate soul bond fic, and it's something I'm pretty closely following.

Fantastic Elves and Where to Find Them and it's sequel The Handbook of Elf Psychology by evansentranced is my favorite fic currently updating now

Harry Potter: The Last Avatar by The Sorting Cat is also pretty awesome

The Prince Who Was Promised » by cxjenious starts out good.

I am sad that only so few good fics are currently updating at any regular rate. Now that I think about it, Forging the Sword also counts since it updated recently

 

All the usuals:
FtS, OtWtG, CR, Vincet et al, etc.

Beyond that, not much. Shujin's fic is pretty good. C'est La Vie is mildly entertaining. The Perils of Innocence has some interesting ideas but doesn't really fit DLP.

 

I actually went to check my alert list for Harry Potter stories and found myself extremely disappointed. Most of the best fics update horribly infrequently. Most of them were last updated late 2012.

C'est la Vie- for a decent time travel.
Harry Potter and the Last Avatar - cuz its fucking awesome.
His Angel - for being like the only Harry/Fleur fic that updates.
When a Veela Cries - for being the only other Harry/Fleur fic that updates.
Give it Your Best Shot - for another decent time travel fic.
The Havoc Side of the Force - For the amazing adventures of our Hero Protagonist - HK47 and his sidekick Harry Potter. Star Wars cross.

Looking at this list I'm noticing a severe lack of updating from Roarian and not just of Wand and Shield. What gives bro. YOU WERE SO CONSISTENT!! DLP needs Moarian.

Naruto -
Life in Konoha's ANBU - for being the best updating fic in any fandom.
The Leaf's Naruto - for being the best time travel fic (grr Roarian!)
Steal my Thunder God - for having massive potential and time travely replacement goodness.
Guardian of Fire - For being one of my favorite time travels that recently updated out of nowhere. Might be forever before it does again though.
Worth Dying For - For the immortal naruto and originality

Eroninja - For the smutz

Shinobi of the High Seas - For being the only readable One Piece fic and being my favorite Kenchi fic. OP/Naruto cross.

Sekirei - I love this series so - In Flight. Ashikabi No Shinobi. Unwavering Sky. The three main ones that I follow.

Some Other Fandoms -

Promises of a Wandering Hero - FSN/Love Hina cross. Sorta like In Flight, only with Love Hina.

Precocious Crush - Kick Ass. Both the fandom and the content. I'm in fucking love with Hit Girl. Does that make me a pedo?

The Sun Soul - The Definitive Pokémon fic. Murdered my childhood.

edit: Is Vincet even updating T3t? The 2nd book finished in august 2012. Is the 3rd part up somewhere?

 

Avatar of Victory - I jump on updates as soon as they come out. I love an interesting crossover, and mixing Mass Effect with Avatar the Last Airbender fits the bill.

A Game of Style and Brutality - Best representation of Quidditch.

The Dark in Peace - I really like the character interactions in this HP mystery story.

There are others, but most were already mentioned.

 

Lately, I really appreciate the more extreme AU stories. A couple I am following aren't the greatest pieces of literature, but I do make a point of checking them out when they update.

Hogwarts Battle School by Kwan Li. Probably my favorite regularly updating story. Sirius Black and Severus Snape join forces to mold Harry into an Ender-like figure. While there are occasional missteps, there are also occasional moments of exceptional writing.

Firebird's Son by Darth Marrs. A guilty pleasure, but one with an update every Saturday morning. Like most DM stories, it started out strong, but has weakened over the past several weeks.

 

Well, if we're just talking fiction, then easily it's Worm. Fanfiction... well, I haven't read an interesting fic in months, so there's none I'm actively following that have anything resembling a decent update rate.

 

@Russano: According to his twitter, book 3 is in progress as of May 7. So I suppose it counts as "updating", in that it'll probably update within the year.

 

Was it actually confirmed somewhere that the other person is Sirius Black? There aren't really very many other options, but I don't remember ever seeing it stated outright.

It started out reasonably well but the last few chapters have sort of descended into magical-world-bashing, which at this point has been done so much that it's tedious to read even when it's justifiable (although to be fair, it'd be pretty hard to avoid completely given the premise of the story).

 

Nah. It's my guess is all.

 

Forward is the only one that I can think of offhand.

 

All of this just reminds me that I haven't updated anything in months.

Hmm, should get on that...

Mass Effect: Human Revolution
ME/Deus Ex crossover. Fairly consistent update rate. The story itself starts out quite well but has been a bit iffy in the last chapters.

Clash of Civilizations
ME/Halo crossover. A first contact scenario fic with humanity that is in the least on par with the rest of the galaxy. Rather slow paced so far.



Naruto: Ouroboros
Probably one of the better Naruto fics currently on-going in the fandom as far as serious!Naruto goes.

 

Human Revolution is a pretty kick-ass story. I agree though that its seems to be losing a little steam.

Mass Effect: The First War Is pretty decent, just ME and very AU at that. Kinda reminds me of Halo level tech though.
