    Basically topic.

I've not kept up to date with the specs of the new cards and how they're performing. I'm looking at that 980Ti and wondering if it's time to upgrade.

I'm not asking about value. I'm specifically interested in how much more powerful it is than the 690. What about the TitanX?

    Thanks for indulging my laziness.

A 980Ti gives you on average about 15-20 fps more (assuming 1080p - on higher resolutions it's generally less, and it also depends on the game). The TitanX is basically the same as a 980Ti, just with more VRAM which isn't worth the extra cost.

If you can, I'd say wait until next year when the new GPUs come out. Rumors indicate a rather large jump in performance, thanks to the shrink to 16nm and HBM2. If you don't want to wait, the 980Ti is currently the best single-GPU you can get.

I assume you already know this - and have the proper MOBO, but just in case, make sure you're not overloading lanes or trying to put that big of a card in a PCI-E 2.0 slot that's sharing lanes with a few other things. (dedicated 2.0 x16 to that card will be more than fine, however).

I can wait. Especially if the jump is supposedly more significant.

My mobo should be fine, though I'd have checked before pulling the trigger.

    Cheers

When would that be exactly? I've been thinking about upgrading my PC as well. If the new ones come out early enough I might wait as well.

There's no exact date yet, but considering that the 900 series was released in september, I'd say end of Q2/start of Q3 at the earliest, unless nvidia is really eager to abandon the 900 series pretty fast.
