alot of the stuff out there now is commercial fake bullshit i.e. 50cent, Snoop. As much as I like Nelly's flow and beats I just cant stand how he flops from underground to prep school commercial.
I don't have alot of rap on my hd compared to my R&B stuff, but what I do keep on their constantly is underground mixtape stuff from Game (alot of good diss records against 50) Jae Hood and the rest of D Block, a few smaller rappers that haven't gone large yet.
Its a nice chance of pace from the John Mayer/Craig David/Boyz 2 men stuff I listen to relax.

I haven't listened to much rap since 2pac died, my heart hasn't been in it. I don't mind commerciality (is that a word?) though, a few 50 Cent and snoop songs are alright IMO. My problem is largly the misogyny. I don't care for it.
I notice that whilst decrying commercial rap, no one mentioned the most commercial rapper of all... Eminem. I can't stand him, but then again, I hate white rappers.
Midknight
09-17-2005, 06:27 PM
Eminem is off on a class of his own, I don't even bother to include the guy when I think of rappers.
I got Jin offa TBP, and he does have some great rhymes on his cd, but they're coupled with stupid choruses that don't seem to match well with the rest of the story. The annoying ass chinese speak from the grisl in the background through half of the songs is not amusing.

Yeah I agree Em is good with the rhymes, and I enjoyed alot of his freestyles stuff before he blew up.
Jin's just aggravating me, he's like some of Jae Hood's stuff, amazing lyrically at times, but you can clearly see when he stumbles, it's like pasting a good song with a bad song, you can see the exact moment it goes to crap
-rofl Why you acting like I aint the one, you got me battling Bruce Lee's grandson
EDIT: Jesus christ, after watching all of the free battles, that guy is goddamned insane, its a freaking MAJOR shame all that talent didn't tranfer

I respect only three rap artists.
Tupac Shakur- He rapped about shit that MATTERED before he went off into his little bullshit argument with Biggie.
Kanye West- He has impressed me so far with his style, and oddly enough class.
Eminem- The man was emphasis on WAS a genius.. His last album put me off a bit, it was like he was going through an identity crisis with his music and didn't know it. Half the album was good, the other half was crap.
Artists I have NO respect for
50 Cent- So what you can buy and sell drugs, and were fortunate enough to have doctors save your life. Frankly I don't care, 50 belongs in jail... Not for his years peddling cocaine, but for the lack of originality of the lyrics on his latest CD.
Nelly- Turned into a punk. Wearing a bandaid on his face for his bro in jail... Earth to Nelly, if your bro is in jail the bandaid should be over your asshole instead.
The Game- Lyrics suck. Lyrics generic. If I wanted to listen to a drug dealer I would listen to 50.
G-Unit- No talent. My gerbil can rap better than them.
Lil Jon- I can scream YEEEEAH and OOOOHKAAAAY in that weird voice while holding a golden pimp goblet to. And I have more vocal talent than this idiot. I want my millions.
Elephant Men- Speak UNDERSTANDABLE English you jagoffs.
Ludacris- Had a few decent songs. Then went generic.
Fat Joe- Notorious BIG wannabe... Without the talent.
ICP- Insane Clown Posse. A group of punks who think they are hard because they have a devoted following of 1 million suburban rich kids following them.
Proof from D12- He sucks. His rhymes hitch. You can tell when someone else from the group is writing his lines for him because they don't suck.
Coolio- Didn't have the sense of humor to laugh when Weird Al did a parody of his only good song.

Ignore Game's commercial shit and check out his diss records of 50 cent Gio, it's a whole world of difference and you'd probably like the the guy, with the inventive insults he comes up with.
Pac greatest album to me, anyway, was when he went Machievilli (spelling prolly butchered) i enjoyed that album the best.
50 cent is a fake lil bitch, he's scared for his life with all the security.
You forgot Ja Rule, the punk of punks, goes from soft core rapping to singing, to hardcore to fight back against 50.
Lil John is a sore topic for me. I hate the bastard. He actually has a very intelligent sounding voice, and yet he threw away his education to scream bullshit lyrics every 3 seconds and screw up good songs.
Luda had style, then he slowed his rhymes down, and just spun off for no reason... Making a song with an AUSTIN POWERS THEME?
Fat Joe - You mean Big Pun wanna be I assume? Pun was were it was at "Dead in the middle of lil Italy, lil did we know we peddled to middle men who didn't do diddly"
Main reason why the small bit of rap I can stand nowadays, is usually underground stuff, before the artist feels they have to sell out.

All the old shit was good like Tupac, NWA, Ice Cube (When he broke away from NWA he still rocked), Easy E, Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, ect. Some of the new stuff fucking irks me but there is some good shit like Fat Man Scoop is alright, Styles of Beyond (Only heard two songs but they fucking rock), Kanye West, ect.
I like Missy Elliot's video's and like two of her songs.

I still don't understand why everyone's on Kanye's jock, he's alright, but his big thing is going totally in the other direction of where everyone else is going with weird ass hooks and gimmicks in the song.
I can respect that, but I haven't been able to care much one way or the other about his stuff. Through the wire was hot, but then they played it to death and back

50 started off ok with Get rich or Die Tryin but after that he wasnt that hot anymore.
Eminem is one of the tightest rappers out.
D-12 is the shit Proof is the best one out of the whole group I mean he is the one who started the damn thing in the first place.
Obie Trice i have been listening to his album ever since it came out in 2003 and its still straight fire.
Lil jon on a rapper level isnt that great but his club bangers are pretty good.
Wu-Tang Clan is the shit. RIP to ODB that whole group could rhyme like no ones business.
Pac was probably the greatest rapper. My fav at least nuff said.
Biggie was ok i didnt like him as much as pac.
Dr. Dre is probably my fav producer and as a rapper hes ok his albums are usually pretty good.
there are some underground people around that are ok.
my fav rapper out right now is probably Nas.
Nas is amazing
Jay-Z i never really liked him much but he did have some good stuff like reasonable Doubt.
Busta Rhymes is amazing cant get enough of him.
Ludacris is pretty good dont care what ya'll say but his last album was tight.
The Game is the shit. The Documentary was a great album dont care what any of you say lol
Kanye West is ok both of his albums get kind of played out after a while but his beats are tight.
Common is amazing so is Talib Kweli Mos Def. Those three are some of the best rappers better than most of the bigger mainstream cats.
DJ Hi-Tek has some tight beats that he made for Talib Mos and Common.
Midknight
09-18-2005, 03:58 PM

You forgot Ja Rule, the punk of punks, goes from soft core rapping to singing, to hardcore to fight back against 50.
I didn't forget Ja Fool. I just don't count him as a person. Fuckin punk assed little bitch.
I have heard GAME's underground stuff. I still don't like him. His insults are creative, yes. But he is not. In fact the creative insults are just more proof that he is what I loath about the industry the most, a fuckin sell out. His album was so generic it was disturbing. I mean seriously.
Red Eye.
He had a fuckin song on that album called "Compton Compton." I thought he couldn't get anymore generic... Then I listened to it... AND IT GOT MORE FUCKING GENERIC!!! Seriously, you could switch out his name with that of any other no-talent local west coast rapper and get the same song.
Compton Compton ... Murderville?
Gimme a fuckin break, The Game is a shitty rapper who tries to act hard. If I wanted to listen to a drug dealer rap bad poetry to a half assed beat I would walk 10 mins into Northeast Philly and check out a club with an open mike night.

Cassidy is disgusting, that lil bastard can rhyme his ass off, I got alot of respect for him. I didn't like alot of his last album, but AM2PM, Crack, the intro, hustla, and several of his mixtape stuff are in my rotation.
DMX has fell off alot, it's like he went insane for some reason and lost alot of his talent. He shines the best now when guesting on other ppls stuff, but I can't get into anything he's done recently solo for some reason.
Fabo's nuts, I got him on a mp3 talking about Funk Flex's car show awhile back and it's insane.
I'm liking Jin's cd the more I listen to it, I figured the corny ass choruses were intended that way, listening to the interludes making fun of himself.
Speaking of half assed west coast rappers:
We can't forget about Guerilla Black. Compton was annoying as hell, with that dumbass Beanine man, who you STILL can't understand half the time, it was one of the worst song i'd heard in awhile. With a chorus this half ass how can you not respect their lack of skills!
Guerilla Black comes from Compton (Zaccka)
And Beanie Man is a Jamaican (Beeyaaa!)
Sending my message across the nation (Zo)
Cause I'm original Badman (C‘mon!)
Yo, I'm original Badman (Blaahh!)
And Guerilla Black comes from Compton
And Beanie Man is a Jamaican (Zo)
Cause we're original Badman
The guy's trying so hard to be Bigge, he needs to do conjugal visits with Lil Kim and go knock Faith up.

yeah wtf is up with timbaland?!?! He used to kick serious ass back in the day, then he went behind the scenes to do insane beats.. sadly they often contain annoying mouth sounds that piss me off, but now everytime he raps it just sounds forced?!?
Cam'ron.. ug. Horse and carriage. he went from killa Cam to that back to trying to be hardcore. That's almost as bad as Murder Mase becoming Puffy's bitch Ma$e, to a preacher, back to a rapper when the cash ran out.
D-block collectivley: Count ya Blessing.

I can't stand the guy. Yeah he can rap fast, but you catch him often making up words, or blending words together to make new shortened versions that make no sense until you see the lyrics sheet. He falls into the category for me of "Guys that have immense talent, but misuse it by being a gimmick rapper".
I've heard him rapping slow in freestyles and the guy is just sick. To me when he flys fast it just sounds too melodic for me to stand
Example:Raps very fast (Twist), or being a huge druggie(Snoop), or trying to screw everything in existance(several southern rappers), or trying to act as straight as possible, but acts so Queer he should have his own fashion show. (Diddy and Kanye) and then you get the I'm a real street thug who kills people on the daily (50 bitch)

Thats true, but a black kid who grew up in a rough neighborhood, and has actually seen some of the stuff go down I can handle, even if he wasn't doing all the stuff he rhymes about, at least he's seen it.
A rich kid with an excellent education, and rich as shit parents, (neurosurgeons or something in Lil Jon's case from what I've read in the DJ Vlad the Butcher forums) posing as a hardcore, porn obsessed thug, has no right to be yelling out things... Then again, all the no talent fucker does is do what Dave Chapelle made fun of him for, *shrug* so I guess it's all good.
Overall I think, the days of gansta, where they really did do that crap, are over, we're left with a buncha kids that can rhyme fast and tight, then go home, and mix their own shit on a PC the built themselves, lol.
In other words, I don't thinks there's many real ones left sadly

Ok guys here is the logical proof proving that current "rappers" are chumps.
Givens.
Generic Tracks = Garbage.
50 Cent = The Game
The Game = Generic
Therefore 50 Cent = Garbage.
If 50 Cent > Ja Fool/The Game < Jay Z < 'Pac, Biggie.
And Southern Rap < 50 Cent then
All modern rap is < or = to Jay Z... And Jay Z < 'Pac and Biggie.
Therefore 99% of recent rap = Garbage/Generic... The rest is just low quality.
Ok guys its over for gangster rap... Its been proved that they all suck.... By Logic no less.

Great we can have two of my least favorite rappers on an album together.
Jay-Z- Talented: Yes.
Do I like his music? No.

Nas: Talented: Yes.
Do I like his music? No.
I dislike him because he posthumously settled his disagreement with Tupac to make a quick buck.
Second reason I dislike him. Arrogant as hell, but pretends not to be.
Third reason. He only really raps about one thing, and rarely branches out, wasting the talent he was born with.

I've never liked anything Nas has put out in an album format, other then the diss Ether. Everything of his I liked is freestyle, or unground mixtapes generating hype before one of his albums

Awwww, ya'll just don't know.
Nas-I gave you power= One of the greatest topical songs EVER.
And Nas really never had it in for Pac anyway, Pac hated him because he said he stole his style.
But as far as lyrics go, it's all about Copywrite
"I got a dick a girafee couldn't deep throat"
"I'm the Biggie in my city, get me? You can be Jigga second in line, so when I'm 'Ready to Die' you can be Bigga"
"Battle each cat for a 'brick' and have a new house when I'm done"
"Masterbate on a sun dial cause my time has cum"
