Trillian? (had it along time ago, didn't like it)
Yahoo? (I like the audibles)
AIM (that load of bloatware?)
MSN?
Other?

I myself use Yahoo w/ Voice, and then Xfire for when I'm in games. Yahoo is a system resource bitch, and uses way too much bandwidth and resources for the quality webcam and sound you get. Xfire's voice sucks, but it's overlaying chat window in games kicks ass.

Xfire also keeps track of how many hours you log in games, which I find helpful.
I've tried teamspeak, but I can't stand the interface, nor the sound quality, even with the codec's cranked up.

What is your preferred IM service, and why?

MSN.

Easy to use. That's about all really. I'm sure the others are easy to use too but I havnt really tried them apart from Yahoo. I just liked how MSN was set out. Meh.

I use AIM. Dunno why you don't like it Mid, but I love it. Easy to use and figure out, and plus, all my friends use AIM or AOL, I know maybe 2 or 3 people that use Yahoo Messenger predominantly. And like one person who uses MSN.

Aim and Yahoo are my two favorites at the moment. Aim is the one I've used since my brother taught me how to use a comp, but yahoo has a sleeker interface. I have all three, but I have to say Yahoo wins out.

I use AIM. Dunno why you don't like it Mid, but I love it.

I've loathed AOL ever since they gave folks normally too stupid to use the net, free access with easy to use software, then jacked the price of their service up, forced the users to use such bloated software, thier poor connectivity, bad service, etc. (Switching to Netzero when I had dialup for free, then 10$ a month for better, faster service really soured me on AOL even more)

Last time I used AIM it just didn't want to work right for me, ran alot of resources for the small bit it did, and just seemed overly childish/idiot-friendly. It may have improved in the past year or three since I've last touched it, but it just left me wanting to bash it with a brick.

Haha, yeah, AOL has really bloated prices. AOL sucks, but AIM doesn't. It doesn't run up a lot of resources, at least not any more.

If you ever want a laugh, have someone subscribe to AOL for a time longer then 3 months, then cancel for "bad service" or something negative. Watch how many times they call you trying to get your money back, lol.

I canceled after the free year I got with my PC was up, and they literally stalked me on my AIM ID, MSN email address, home phone, and home mail. I finally got into it with the operator and told her Netzero ran faster for me, less disconnects due to then doing it on purpose (which AOL does do if you're idle for periods of time during certain hours, I'd minimize the waol.exe POS browser and use IE, and it'd drop me every 10 minutes during peak hours) so why the hell would I pay 27$+ a month, for something I got better service with for 0$ (10-20 hours use a month I think it was) or 10$ (unlimited use)

To this date I have (*counts*) 3 unopened AOL shrink wrapped metal tins with install Cds, 2 plastic ones with the lil AOL man, 17 emails over the past 3-4 months in my roadrunner and MSN accounts, begging me to return to them and get *insert bribe here* service free! Why they'll add their bloatware browser and AIM to my roadrunner for only another 15$ a month! Ug. Their biz tactics just turn me off to AIM, it could contain free strippers sent to give you lapdances at your house each time you used it and I wouldn't bother.

-snipped-

I see.. I dont approve of AOL's tactics either. However, the majority of people I know and meet use AIM. I refuse to sign up for AOL but still use AIM. As long as I never <insert> my real Email I never get any notices/bribes.

Nyah. MSN Messenger meh like. Trillian was annoying and AIM annoys me. I don't know why.....*shrug* I used to use Yahoo Voice when I played D2, and it's not to bad. ( I liked IMing people when they were offline -.-; I have a tendancy to forget what I was going to tell people)

Has ICQ fallen so much out of use from all the other big ones?

I don't like any of them, they all seem like bloatware to me.

But, on occasion, I'll log in to my old ICQ account via the online icq2go and can reach old ICQ and AIM friends.

Haven't liked any of the apps in forever. Though when it's time for my fantasy football drafts, I'm on the icq2go a lot more.

AIM. Most of the people I chat with regularly use it so I do as well. Trillian was too much of a pain in the ass to get to work right the one time I tried it.

AIM, all my friends use it. But AOL is horrible. I've got tons of those free CDs they give out, I use them for BB gun practice. Try and shoot through the hole in the middle.

I don't really use any... but when I do I use Yahoo. Like Midknight I have a thing against AOL, and have done since they started pushing up their prices. It amazes me that not so long ago they where really cheap and today I am paying less for a 10mbps connection than they charge for a 2mbps.

I wouldn't mind the price if the software wasn't so utterly buggy and bloated, and the service was good. I switched to Roadrunner (yeah I know they're owned by the same parent company now) and I've had zero lasting problems, and their tech help, once you know how to bypass the tier 1 retards, is utterly insane. Had a problem with a router. Dude came out at 9am... on a SUNDAY. Nice.

I use anything and everything free. 1. I'm cheap. 2. I have a habit of finding out how IM blocks work through trial and error. My guess is, if I try between five and ten different things, there should be one the people in charge haven't caught.
So... AIM, the French version of AIM, MSN, Windows Messenger, Google talk, and Yahoo Messenger currently. I might try Trillian if I get bored.

There's a French version of AIM? Is it different than English AIM?

It was one of my high school's ways around the IM blockers. It is not generally as easy to find and block the pages it is downloaded from, either (for the English-speaking computer guy). Boon of all boons at boarding schools.

MSN - easy to use and everyone I know uses it. AOL ain't so hot round here, I'm like the only person that has it. As a general rule, I use MSN for people I know and AIM for fanfiction people with only two exceptions. Makes life easier.

Quiet! The reason that I have a mac is because my Middle School has a laptop program, and we get macs! And I happen to like it to because I've never gotten a virus. Ever. Try that with a PC.
