Getting a new PC

So, my current PC is a little over 2.5 years old and I got about 1800 USD to drop on a new one. I will be buying it around mid June so that leaves me with over a month to decide.

I am not good with hardware. My current PC (assembled) while not outright malfunctioning isn't that great in terms of hardware compatibility. So thinking of taking the other route, I am currently looking at Lenovo Ideacentre All-in-one B520. Or the soon to release B540P or A720.

My main priority is gaming. Everything else is a plus. I prefer Intel to AMD.

Any suggestions? Should I stick to assembled PC instead?

Also, I am about 90% sure on a PC, but I might chose to go for a laptop instead since I do not have one right now.

Jackie Chan Quits Action Films

"I don't just want to be an action star, I want to be a true actor," the Hong Kong-born star revealed. "I want to be an Asian Robert De Niro. I want to get rid of my image. So, for the last ten years I've done other films like The Karate Kid, where I'd rather play an old man. I want the audience to know I'm not just about fighting or comedy, also I can act."

Chan is best known for combining martial arts with slapstick comedy; the actor's daredevil tendencies make it difficult for him to be insured by movie studios. Chan currently holds the Guinness Book of World Records title for "Most Stunts By A Living Actor."

I can understand that he's getting older, but it's a shame that he completely quits doing action movies instead of taking roles that don't have any dangerous stunts to perform.

Also, looking at De Niro's movies from the last decade I wish Jackie that his dream about being an Asian version doesn't come true, because it'd be only a big disappointment to him.

Anyone seen it? Judging by the trailers and reviews it's pretty much a bunch of Transformers-esque Michael Bay-style Stuff Blowing Up action-schlock, but if it's competently executed it might be worth seeing.

Looking for a certain story

So I am looking for this one story that I remember bits of but can't find. I can't remember if it was on fanfiction.net or Portkey or wherever, but its been annoying me and I want to find it.

It starts off with Harry at Privet Drive at the beginning of his 6th year. When he goes off to Hogwarts, he takes a healers seminar and a bunch of courses that he thinks will help him fight Voldemort. Somewhere in the story, Draco enacts several plans to get Harry to either give up or to get him to Malfoy Manor, where Voldemort is hiding. One plan ends up with Hermione's mom dead and her dad in the hospital wing at Hogwarts.

I don't remember if Harry is initially paired up with anyone but I do know that he ends up with Hermione in the last few chapters or so.

Ring any bells? I do remember that it was actually well written and didn't kill me with a ton of grammar errors, so I figured people here may actually have read it. It also had decent plot, no bashing from what I remember and a decently competent Voldemort. I also remember that there were no Horcruxes in the story, so I guess it was from before 7th book came out.

I think Harry reforms the DA in it if that helps and Daphne Greengrass and (possibly) Tracy Davis join. I'll try to see if I can remember anything else from the story but that's all I got at this point.

If anyone knows the story, please share XD

DayZ Arma 2 Zombie Survival Mod

A new mod for Arma 2 Combined Operations that's been circling around the internet. Didn't see a thread here so I though I should post it up. Anyways it's a multiplayer survival game set in a 255km map where you spawn with a pistol and some supplies. You can scavenge zombie infested towns for food and weapons or kill your fellow players for their supplies. Anyways go check it out, it looks pretty good for being in alpha stage at the moment :)

A lighthearted piece that actually captures the feel of the movie rather well. It's broken up into different events in the lives of the Gru family by chapter, and the characters are well written. Not my usual fare, but I found it rather enjoyable. 4/5.

I have lost faith in humanity. Seriously.

Muggle-Magical interactions.

I was thinking the other day about the HP universe and one of my runaway thoughts took me back to the books and how the British PM was aware of the magical world. Now a brief extrapolation of that fact leads to a whole host of hypotheticals; for example, during wartimes, the Cold War especially, everybody "in the know" must have realized how easy it would have been for the enemy to find and entice a wizard to apparate in and detonate a weapons cache or shrink and steal a nuclear warhead and disapparate back to their home. This brought me to the conclusion that, being aware of the Magical World's powers and at the same time not being mentally handicapped, muggle leaders would have probably asked at one point for some wizarding assistance even if they recognized the need for maintaining the Statute of Secrecy.

Anyway all theses random thought trains got me wondering if any fan fiction writers have really expounded on the few areas where the Muggle world and Magical world touch.

I read the story in the library about obliviation and thought it was fantastic. Don't remember they name but we can skip that one.

Also, I'm not interested in reading the ten million and one stories about muggle army's fighting and winning the war or anything like that. These seem to be all written by fanbois with simultaneos huge hard-on for military hardware. Honestly after the first bullet flew, the deatheaters would just charm their robes impervious to lead (I read a story recently where someone was saying that after WWII wizards charmed settlements against extreme heat, radiation and wind in response to the bombs dropped in japan.-bonus points for the title).

Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance

I could have necro'd one of the old KH threads, but this is a new game with a new independent story.

Ten minute English trailer for KH 3D: Dream Drop Distance hit monday.

Looks fun. Not as streamlined and stylish as PSP's Birth By Sleep, but that's to be expected for Nintendo. Unfortunately, I don't have a 3DS, so I'll probably just end up watching the cut-scenes on youtube / reading the .txt of the dialogue.

I'm a tad surprised they made Sora look younger than his KH2 counterpart, seeing as he's supposed to be sixteen in this game. Weird. :sherlock:

Twisted Treeline Tips

My team just hit rank 1 on Twisted Treeline. It only took about a week.

Here are 5 tips on champion selection for anyone interested in winning ranked 3s. Most Twisted Treeline games are won during champion select because there are only a few high Elo players who plays Twisted Treeline so the mechanics and skills of players are not huge factors.

1. Pick tanky champs.
Singed Yorick Mundo etc.
Fights are messy clusters. There are no tank or support lines so all squishy champs would get burst down instantly.

2. Pick high skill damage/stats champs.
Farm is slow on Twisted Treelines so the game outcomes are decided before big items comes into play. Champions with high skill damage and free stats are king. eg. Lee Sin, Jax, Riven.

3. Pick non mana dependent champs.
There is no Blue Buff on Twisted Treelines so effectiveness of mana dependent champs such as typical AP mids are cut down dramatically. This shifts the spotlight to champions with other resources. Manaless: Riven, Mundo; Energy: Lee Sin, Kennen, Rage: Shyvanna, Renekton; Bruisers: Yorick, Udyr.

4. Pick high mobility/CC champs
The map is very small so you are able to get to a fight most of the times with mobility. Also being able to jump on to a target is very important in team fights. Focus fire is the key of winning team fights. High mobility/CC for chases and escapes is important as well.

5. Having Hybrid damage.
Try to have a team comp with equal amount of magic and physical damage so the enemy can not itemize defence effectively. There are many heavy magic damage melees such as Shyvanna, Mundo, Rumbo, and singed.

Bonus tip: Jax is victory. Pick if not banned. Ban if you do not have first pick.
He fits every criteria of being a top Twisted Treeline pick.
He is Tanky with a 100% dodge skill and free Armour and MR from his ultimate.
He has extremely high base skill damage with his W and ultimate and he is not mana dependent.
His Leap Strike can engage and escape and his Counter Strike is an AoE stun. Also his damage is Hybrid.

It's a fan made web series about an Auror in New York, supposedly due to start in summer.
There isn't anything else to find, beside the names of writers and actors and that this isn't affiliated with Rowling, but they claim to be fans.

The quality seems impressive, no idea about plot nor anything else.

My “actual” question is about ‘Intent Only Casting,’ as described by Filius Flitwick way back when Harry was a firsty. *(Professor Flitwick closes a door, it's not a big deal from a narrative perspective, but from a Magic perspective was kinda interesting)

I thought of shear willpower overcoming the Age Line (going so far as to planning a oneshot where Santi’s Harry succeeds using this method) … But am interested in people’s thoughts.

Once you get good enough, Dumble/Volde level, when casting your intent… all you need is DESIRE?
