My father is looking to buy a new computer. He can assemble it himself once he has all the parts.

His budget is about 400 €, maximum 500 € if it can't be avoided. He would like to have a SSD and if I understood him right he doesn't require much HDD space as such since he uses extern drives for the most part.

He's also a casual gamer but the PC is mostly for work I believe. The games he plays are old titles like AoE II and the likes but I think that's owed to his old rig. I think he would play more hardware demanding strategy titles if he had the system for it.

Anyway, since I'm not too knowledgeable, I thought you could help.

What parts do you already have? I.e. Monitor, sound, keyboard/mouse, case?

Yeah, do tell what you already have.

As for recommendations, could do something like that:

    Intel Pentium G4620 - 89,81€
    MSI B250M PRO-VD - 56,85€
    8GB Crucial CT8G4DFD8213 DDR4-2133 - 59,65€
    Gainward GeForce GTX 1050 - 111,05€
    275GB Crucial MX300 - 89,05€
    450 Watt Cooler Master G450M - 53,17€
    Total: 459.58€ (German prices)

RAM can later be upgraded with another 8GB stick. You can take a look at some benchmarks for the 1050 - it should be able to handle most modern games if you reduce details/resolution. If you want something less gaming orientated, you can drop the GPU alltogether.

Monitor, sound, mouse/keyboard are already available. He'll use his old case.

I gave him the list of items, and he said he'll look through it.

@Sacro Why not recommend a Ryzen part at this time? Wouldn't the performance per euro be higher?

Ryzen is a bit more expensive, and I wasn't sure if a case would need to be squeezed into the budget. Also many small AM4 boards only support the Ryzen 3, so you can't upgrade to a Ryzen 5 or something later, wheras on the MSI intel board an i5 shouldn't be a problem. Since an old case will be used Ryzen is also a possiblity now though.
