50,000 words in a month, starting tomorrow - who's in?

Here's my profile. Add me, I'll add you.

I popped this in Original Fiction but I figure if you're writing fanfiction it's all the same.

I'm personally working on finishing the next novel in my Reminiscent Exile series, Lost Grace. That needs about 50k words.

    Here's the math:

    50,000 words/30 days = 1,666 words a day.

We're not talking pretty words, either. Just words on the page.

Who's in? What are you working on?

Well, if I could get some feedback on the novel I've *been* working on...

I imagine a rich chunk of this would go toward redrafting VEYL. I might be able to hammer out more for Myron's wizarding America piece I've loosely plotted out already. Or finally refining the Steampunk piece I almost went with instead of VEYL.

Fully intending to, but I've said that for the last few years and...not done it. If I do get it together, then I'll be working on some original fiction, tentatively titled 'Waters of Avalon', mixing Arthurian legend, fairy lore and bits of the UK other than London.

Oh here we go. Here's the nagging. Nag, nag, nag. You don't treat me no good no more, LC.

I'm on it this November - super duper best friend promise. If you have a later draft, send it my way, otherwise the one I have will get the Joe special.

Tried to buddy you. Got a Page Not Found. Looks like no words for you, mate.

    Edit: Disregard. You're my buddy.

I will put in some measure of effort this year, though I have significantly less time than the one last year *which I failed spectacularly at*. Still, remaining optimistic that I can do this.

I will certainly attempt it but with RL constraints I'll probably fail. Again.

    I'll be participating!

...Sort of! Like years in the past, I am setting my own goal. I met my own goal in 2012 and 2013, but not 2014. Generally it's been along the lines of "write a complete 20k story" or "finish these 6 short stories that tapered off."

I'll do NaNo properly one year when I have an outline ready to go. At the moment I don't, and pantsing during a busy time of year when I'll be out of town for several days anyway... yeah, pass.

So this year will either be write out a proper (by my standards) summary/outline for my fanfic (which in itself would probably be 20k) or write a full story for this.

This would be my first attempt writing so hopefully Nanowrimo will help me get my first 50,000 words and more importantly into the habit of writing daily.

Will give it a try, unlikely I will be able though. Lots of uni stuff.

Any TOS Trekkies around? Ever since finding that contest I've been brainstorming ideas. I might make it my NaNo project instead of what I'd planned to work on...

If any of you guys finish a novel and can get it polished up by January, I did run across this: Angry Robot Books Open Door

A brief glance doesn't tell me who it's open to, be it US only or worldwide, but they do seem to be timing their submission period for NaNo writers to be able to give it a go.

I'll probably do it. Don't know if I'll be successful.

Have some kind of urban fantasy work going on which I've spent the last month and a half worldbuilding, based around one of my fanfiction pieces that was so AU that it might as well be original fiction.

On the bright side, the world is immense and constructed, the magic system literally could be like 30k words if all aspects were explored, and I have a handful of characters and an overarching plot.

On the downside, I can't even call the plot a "skeleton" without insulting other skeletons. The world and the magic are kinda convoluted and hard to explain.

And I'm deathly afraid of screwing this up and not doing it justice. It feels like the best thing I've ever come up with, and combining the time it was fanfiction I've spent several years of my life on it. I've never written a novel before and I'm afraid bad habits from fanfiction will make it unreadable - especially since if I don't curb my impulses my writing sounds like psychobabble already...

But I'll give it a go, because what's the worse that can happen? Even if it's literally shit, I'm confident enough to know that at least maybe a fifth of it will be salvageable...
