I think there was a discussion on FS about Priest + Aco in a small game being very townsided, to the point of being imbalanced?

If Acolyte was removed, should we replace it with another information role?

Oracle seems pretty similar to Acolyte. Watchman is weak. Peeping Tom could be fun and powerful in late game if it could hijack a role. Fortune Teller seems weak, but has potential to very pro-town (keeping an eye on Judge/Priest). Spiritualist is eh.

Okay, so I was checking out those forums Kai posted that Witchhunt guide in, and found where Newcomb got his role list from (I had wondered).

    Holy
    Priest

    Info
    GD
    Apprentice
    Spiritualist

    Offense
    Judge
    DOB
    LC
    Assassin
    Bomber
    Hunter

    Defense
    Survivalist
    Gambler
    Fanatic
    Nurse
    Pagan

Kai himself said Bomber and Fanatic are dropped first and second, and I don't know about all these offensive roles, so maybe switch out Assassin for Fortune Teller, which leaves us with:

    Holy
    Priest

    Info
    GD
    Apprentice
    Spiritualist
    Fortune Teller

    Offense
    Judge
    DOB
    LC
    Hunter

    Defense
    Survivalist
    Gambler
    Nurse
    Pagan

Any opinions on this set up?

I'd probably drop Fanatic, Assassin, Nurse, Spiritualist as necessary.

E: actually probably drop Inquisitor over Spiritualist. Loose Cannon could go too, but I really love the role.

Watchman really isn't that weak for town.

Can you explain it to me? On paper, it didn't seem as good as the other roles.

Knowing that someone is town for sure is very powerful for town, while being near useless for witches as the only utility they get out of it is denying the role from town.

Same reason Acolyte is too powerful.

Scum win or lose on number of possible mislynches. Priest will never be mislynched, so you toss one out right there. Imagine Priest checks Watchman N1 after a town lynch D1. Priest is clear, Watchman is clear, their check is clear. Since they get info N1 on a living player, odds are pretty good it's a meaningful green. 3 people that have to be nightkilled and can never be mislynched in a small game is often an insurmountable mountain for witches. If 2+ of those people were in the mislynch pool to begin with, that's usually enough to be the ballgame.

The goal of balancing the roles is eliminating mechanical ways for one side to win, while encouraging good and creative play with an emphasis on behavioral analysis.

I agree that we have to keep LC. WH wouldn't be be same without it. Fanatic seems fine to toss.

That's for the live, in-person version, so just mentally sub out anything like players "waking up" at night for "players have a private QuickTopic and do night actions / wolfchat in there".

The best teacher of all is experience though. If it even tweaks your interest you should join in.

I have exams from Monday - Thursday, so ideally I'll set it all up and start it Thursday.

I can alternatively start it Monday (as that would allow for D1 end to *hopefully* be after Thursday morning).

Noone's really chimed in on day/night lengths. I'm leaning towards 72 hour days / 24 hour nights. Maybe an extra long D1/N1 for adjustment for everyone (so D1 96 hours, N1 48 hours, thereafter 72 hours/24 hours).

Fake-edit: Forgot about Tom's future V/LA. I have 0 replacements, and Tom will need a V/LA period of about 4 days. This basically causes him to miss an entire cycle. Unsure what the best policy here is. We /could/ go with a 5 day D1/2 day N1 starting on Monday. Unfortunately this causes Tom to miss D1 end, but this way he is present for some of the night (10/3) and from there we can transition to 72 hour D2+/24 hour N2+.

Is everyone ok with this? It's not ideal, but it's the only way I can see not waiting an additional week. I'll close sign-ups Monday at Noon (Central) and then roll roles/distribute QT's and all in time for an afternoon/evening D1 start.

Would much rather have 12 players to run this with as well vs. 11, if anyone knows anyone they can potentially recruit over for the round number.

This what we're kinda agreed on? What's the last drop if we only have 11 (extra role for witch-swap)?

Also, what demon/angel rules are we playing with? Angels get Protect + 1 Double Protect, Demons get Double Haunts (with swapped priest results)? Do Demons HAVE to pick a witches or can they pick two towns and ignore the result swap boon?
