Anyone recommend fics with Competent Jiraiya?
    Or Competent Tsunade ?
I don't mind drunkard Tsunade or lecher Jiraiya, just they aren't only that but actually competent.

Already read Inert fics, which fit the criteria

Do you mean competent or involved in Naruto's life?

I imagine both will fit the criteria he's looking for, as generally both go hand in hand. At least, if done well.

I'll see what I can scrounge up once I've made it to my laptop.

Both, because the training trip is good example of involved and incompetent.

Every time I see this thread I keep thinking... wait, are there really many fics that include Jiraiya and/or Tsunade where they aren't competent?

In 99% of cases the sannin are inserted into fanfics because they are canonically so competent at being ninja, and the author needs a drop in character that no one will argue is really just that good.

I can't think of any fics off-hand where those two are portrayed as being outright incompetent. This request just doesn't make a ton of sense to me.

It's not like asking for fics where Ron is portrayed as competent, or Sakura, because they usually aren't portrayed that way and weren't known for it in canon.

This is more or less what I was thinking. When you're talking about their specialties and being ninja they're incredibly competent. If you want them to competently raise Naruto that's another request entirely.

I seek competence in their interaction with Naruto.
If the fic include a training trip of 3 years, than Jiraiya actually train him and not just go to various brothels while leaving Naruto remaining as he is.

I'm aware I didn't phrase the opening question well enough.
I'm not searching for competence in their Ninja skills, rather either in their teaching skills or Hokage skills.

Fic that just don't turn Jiraiya into full blown lecher/comedic relief and Tsunade to useless drunkard.
While the above vices are part of their characters they aren't all of it.
A good example is NBH by Chilord.

It's pretty crap. I'd like to see the concept done well, though. Are there similar fics to that one?

Iirc Naruto: The Doctor was a pretty enjoyable read. It's abandoned and, since I haven't read it in some time, I can't say whether or not it's aged well.

Note: Now that I think about it, I'm pretty positive he wasn't raised by Tsunade. Don't know if that's a deal breaker for you or not, but, there you have it.

Note #2: If you're gonna read Naruto: Shinobi Wars, I'd recommend reading it's prequel Naruto: Altered History first. It sets the foundations for a lot of the relationships seen and further developed in Shinobi Wars. Plus, I'm rereading it now (just got to Tsunade's appearance) and it's still fucking awesome.

I started reading Naruto: Altered History, the portrayal of the Sandaime and Anko so poorly just broke my interest in the history.
Hiruzen is a passive whimp, and Anko is acting like big mouth brat and not Special or full Jonin.

No one knows about Naruto secret, so there is no real resistance from the Village and he the Sandaime didn't arranged for Naruto to be brought up in way that will serve (Naruto and the village) better?

I do think it worth noting that as a story first published in 2006 and completed in 2008, Naruto: Altered History stands out as one of the golden pieces of that particular time in the fandom. It's definitely aged but it's still readable. Not very many fics from that time can claim the same.

It could just be my age talking (which is weird as shit to think, I'm only 21!) but I can't remember there being too many writers back then that had the breadth of imagination and quality of writing to match the likes of Menace(WindChakras!), Inert, and Shezza who have (in my opinion) all but redefined the fandom within the past five or so years. Well, we had Howdy's Houses of the Holy, but you get my point.

Anyway, what I'm saying is that the story isn't perfect and may not check all of your boxes that may have been refined over the years, but to casually dismiss it all because of a few tropes (which I think everyone now can admit were bad or at least not very tasteful) that didn't stoke your fires just sounds a little juvenile. You asked for a story that gave a competent Jiraiya/Tsunade in relation to Naruto's development, someone suggested Shinobi Wars, and I suggested Altered History so that you'd get the full picture of instead the later fourth. Take it for what you will. Either way, it'll be a fun ride.

And on a final note for your criticism's: I don't know how far you actually read into Altered History, but from what you said it doesn't look like it was very far. Hiruzen was by no means a 'passive whimp'. He definitely wasn't the bad-ass a lot of us are accustomed to viewing him as now (Shezza-senpai, please come back!) but he wasn't passive or a whimp. He was a man well past his prime, in failing health, trying his best to hold on to a peace that seemed to be fracturing more with each coming day. He was the first true introduction as to what truly made a Hokage, a concept that the story examines quite a bit.

As for Anko...well, that's part of where the story shows it's age but she is not just some big brat. Definitely acts like it, but there's more to her character than that. Also, it's kind of hard to really have some kind of grand standard for Jonin when two of the most famous and powerful of them walk around reading porn and screaming about the power of youth, respectively. Among other things.

The entire thing about Naruto's secret...yeah, like I said, it's quite clear that you didn't make it too incredibly far within the story. There are more social dynamics in place than just Civilian-Shinobi-Jinchuriki (whether or not that helps the story or not is debatable), so it's not quite cut in dry. I won't go too much more into detail, since it's a pretty major plot-point.

I'm definitely almost afraid to touch Altered History because it used to be a huge favourite of mine and I don't want it to be shit on a reread.

For what it's worth I reread it at the start of this year and I definitely still enjoyed it. The writing improves over the course of the fic but it's worth noting that it's never particularly weak at the start and by the end, it's still something special.
