    Probably because the vast majority of Kenchi618's stories are guilty pleasures at best, with these two as exceptions. This one in particular uses a really interesting premise - Konoha was never founded - to create an AU where the clans are still fighting each other and familiar characters are thrown into new roles to reflect that. It certainly has some contrivances at the beginning and the recent chapters don't interest me as much as they once did but it's a decent read overall.

    THW's thread. My alert/favourites list for Naruto is depressingly small, to be honest. Inert just completed Patriot's Dawn and has been working on Hurricane Suite. Menace recently started Written in Reverse's prequel, Love Sick. Outside of DLP, Dreaming of Sunshine is still ticking along, Naruto: Great Clan Days and Better Left Unsaid weren't updated too long ago, andNot Sick will have been completed two years ago tomorrrow. Legacy Undone's been getting favourable reviews as well.

    Firstly, I'd just recommend the manga. But if not, I'd probably recommend...Life in Konoha's ANBU? It's one of the best in the fandom, starts at around the same point as canon (if with Naruto in an entirely different role) with the first few chapters easing you into things, and it goes out of its way to explain the workings of Konoha (Naruto's home) and the shinobi world itself. Or if you want something where Naruto's is closer to his canon self then I'd say Patriot's Dawn. I'm not...

    The way the summary for From the Garden of Gods tries to make a distinction between Kagome's abilities and Wood Release bugs me more than it should. Wood Release literally creates life and if it can grow grass as well as wood/trees (see: Yamato's Nativity of a Sea of Trees), it can probably create other plants too. Not to mention all the variations of advanced elements there's been anyway. And Suna's never had anyone with Wood Release so this would be a godsend for them no matter what. It...

    Well, when you say then I can't help but think of Written in Reverse. I'd expect most stories to ignore the Asura/Indra angle but Menace just rolls with it. There's also The Milieu which is an epilogue-compliant slice-of-life fic. Same guy who wrote Naruto and his Uzumaki Heritage if anyone here's read that. It's a nice little fic focusing on Naruto and Sarada.

    Never even heard of Atlas. Or any story that fits those requirements 'cept maybe one I can't remember the name of that had Naruto incapable of using chakra at all, IIRC. So he had to be a 'real' ninja or something to compensate. Edit: Nvm, just looked up Atlas. :rolleyes:

    Only stories I've read that feature Pakura at all are Life in Konoha's ANBU (Chapter 18), Daybreak: Part 1 (Chapter 31) and Naruto: Great Clan Days (Chapter 7-8). Seeing Naruto with Scorch Release (or almost any of the advanced elements) in a good fic will probably remain a pipe dream.

    It's not like affinities are a huge deal. There's nothing stopping a ninja from learning any basic elemental jutsu (e.g. everyone and their mother using that brick wall jutsu in the war) or mastering nature transformation for whichever element they want. Naruto has no excuses since nature transformation training is the one of the most obvious and effective ways of taking advantage of mass shadow clone training. He could have them all done within a week or so. Sadly, Life in Konoha's ANBU...

    With three tomoe, Sasuke was able to predict Naruto's movements. He knew exactly where Naruto was going to be so he could react before he moved, putting himself in the best position for an evasion and/or counter. It's just the next level of the Sharingan's eye of insight. It also may have increased the potency of Sasuke's chakra like Vincent said. I'd never thought of it.

    The romance is probably the weakest part. It doesn't take much for me to enjoy romance in fiction but I found myself cringing at a few scenes. The only thing it has going for it is that Naruto/Mei is unexplored territory and has interesting implications. Gotta agree about the external conflict vs internal conflict too.
