    If only they would even be so bold as to save Lady, pointless as she is. Bran always falls, Dany always gets stuck in Mereen, and Myrcella absolutely will never get out of Dorne alive. I've actually toyed with the idea of doing a fanfic where Myrcella keeps resetting after dying in Dorne, only to end up dying there in a new and interesting way. It's kind of funny how the plot to send Myrcella away was one of Tyrion's greatest tactical moves while simultaneously being an amazing strategic...

    I like what he's done with Robert in the story. He tends to be remembered as a blundering old philanderous oaf who gets killed by some drugged wine and an angry boar, but there's a real dark side to his character in this, something we catch glimpses of in canon that are easy to forget with distance. Despite the calm start, I have a feeling we're going to be seeing a real shake-up away from the stations of canon if this fic continues.

    The signs were there from the start, in retrospect. The lack of a language handwave was really the major red flag, as that's something ultimately unnecessary that will immediately favor Hermione strongly, to the point of limiting Harry's ability to have lines with anyone but Hermione. The lack of wands from the start removes Harry's main way of resolving conflicts, which is action. The lack of Lannisters immediately showing up and throwing things into trouble gives Hermione her favorite...

    Yeah, it's good so far but the slash vibes are pretty strong. I never really understood the whole versioning thing with stories, it seems to me if you're cutting part out the rest might not make any sense.

    The closest to this is Ned Stark Lives, which started off kind of cool and slowly became a parody of itself. To be fair I don't think anything else in the genre even approaches it's "gold" standard of competent mediocrity.

    Yeah, the paragraphs and flow are really just... bad. There are some fics I've read that I've enjoyed that in a strict sense were worse off even than this (spelling, grammar, etc) but at the same time were much more fun to read. Snow lacked that quality. Part of the problem with Snow is that the whole idea is centered around the relationships between Ned and Catelyn and Jon, but instead of that the first chapter featured a dreary summary of the end of Robert's war, done better in dozens of...

    @Snorkack: Don't forget Jeyne Poole died too! It's a shame that Ned Stark Lives became a bit of a parody of itself, but I'm still curious to see how it ends. It's kind of an interesting study in what ASOIAF could have been like with character shields. At least it looks like Dany is going to get off her ass in Mereen and leave all those filthy worthless slaves to die. Between the books, the TV show, and The North Remembers it feels like she's been camped out there for the past three decades.

    I think it'll be very interesting to see what directions Cersei goes in, since rarely in fanfic do we see anything that truly changes her character or loyalties. The only things Cersei loves are family and power, and the thing she hates the most is Robert.     Pure awesomeness. I had been enjoying the fic, but chapter 5 really took things to the next level. As for Family, Duty, Honor.... ehhhhh. Harry/Daenerys has the potential to be a cool pairing (both of them are actually similar in a lot of ways), but I don't think this will really do it justice.

    To be the devil's advocate, Jon wasn't really doing anything different from canon until Ned showed up; he was right on schedule to exit ice cell and enter suicidal reunion with Mance Rayder before Eddard stopped it, and as much as it was basically Jon's coolest moment I can't really blame Ned for preventing his nephew being marched off to apparent death.     I agree about Acts of Treason; it started off really well but felt rushed and empty towards the end (I stopped reading a few chapters ago). It might do better if I read it again in a year or so without a wait between updates though.
