I personally can't wait to watch the sequence of Kylo turning bad and destroying the New Jedi Order. I bet it's going to be beautifully shot, judging by the framework the trailer has provided.

It reminded me a lot of the shot of Bond's house burning on the moor.

What I want is to meet more Knights of Ren.

Exactly my thoughts too. I want to see the bad guys win in a Disney movie, or at least have a good reason for being bad, you know?

So the Hollywood premiere of Last Jedi was last night... and apparently it's good.

Like... really really really really good. Some people are saying better than Empire level of good.

So yeah... my hype is basically higher than Anakin's midichlorian count right now.

Say "midichlorians" three times in a row in front of a mirror and Kathleen Kennedy will appear behind you with Luke’s lightsaber ready to slice you into tiny portions for bantha poodoo.

Going to the midnight premiere in my town (in English, of course), and I‘m hyped as well. Thankfully, I don‘t work on Thursdays… Should be good. (By which I mean "Please, dear mythical beings of film, don‘t let it be terrible.")

    Watched it this morning.

Not nearly as good as it was apparently hyped to be imo. I'm not sure on where I'm placing it yet, but it's not going to get a higher grade than 7.5/10. Reasoning under second spoiler.
+Good few moments with plenty of humour.
+Narrative structure of the flashback greatly appealed to me.
+Hamill and Driver were on point.
+BB-8 in basically everything. Including the coins.
    +Kylo/Rey interaction was surprisingly interesting.

+- Del Toro is perhaps a tad over the top, and his sudden but inevitable betrayal wasn't fleshed out as much as I would've liked.
+- Plot of basically everything can be summed up as "They who need to know, don't know."
    +- Yoda.

-The bridge blow-up went way too far past suspension of disbelief. A rare case of where 'tell, don't show' should have been considered.
-Snoke's death feels way too soon.
-Rey's power doesn't so much spike as it jumps into space if you take the timescale into account. It does depend on how much time you felt passed between blowing up Starkiller Base and the evacuation of the rebel base here, but the sense I got was not positive on that count.

Overall, walked away slightly disappointed, though that's also due to me wanting it to be good and a few other things. Will be fine rewatching it, but I think I'd rank Rogue One ahead of this.

Thank you for tempering my expectations. The fact that Rey continues to be a Mary Sue concerns me...

They explained away Rey's strength as being Kylo's fault.

As he grew in strength the force sought balance by jacking her latent force hax up.

Timescale still applies. It, to me, can simply not be long from Starkiller Base's destruction, and going with a 'He grows, ergo she grows' rationale to explain the apparent instantaneousity of it reeks of bad Indy!Harry fics ca. 2011. It's all very brute force what she's showing, but for someone who discovered the Force essentially mere in-universe weeks ago, it's a lot.

So the Sith does all the work but the Jedi gets all the credit?

    Sounds about right.

    I mean...

For the first hashtag... Snoke's certainly didn't. For the second... Ren does get a promotion out of his Master's death, though not one that's completely without (potential) problems.

Just seen it at midnight, extremely disappointed, tilted, let down, I don't even know. There were some good moments, some stunning moments, the cinematography and so on was gorgeous but jesus christ the """""humour""""" and large parts of the plot just ruined it for me.

So we can agree that Luke suffered a character assassination? I don't think the real Luke would try to kill someone in their sleep...

As someone who loved Legends Luke...how disappointed should I expect to be in this version?

Welp...guess I’ll start back with the books again.

    Never read Truce at Bakura.

Anyone have a solid timeline of the Legends books? I only started reading them a few years ago with Fate of the Jedi

Huh, it seems like I am the odd man out since I quite liked this movie, certainly a lot more than episode 7. Sure some of the time/scale issues remain but I found them more tolerable than it the previous episode, the actions sequences, especially towards the end, were great and I actually liked how they handled Luke and Snoke as well as Leia. I am actually interested in how they plan to continue the saga and what happens to the various characters.

I‘m going to put this all into one spoiler tag, so beware.

IIRC, Luke said that it was "a moment of pure instinct," but by the point he came to himself Ben had already woken up and it was too late? That‘s how it came across to me, at least. I got the impression that it may have been Force-induced? To misquote our dearly departed bounty hunter, is that how the Force works?

Anyways, as someone, woe is me, who never cared about the Legends continuity (and purposefully stayed away from it after the Disney takeover), I enjoyed myself. I thought that Luke was absolutely badazz. With a little reflection, it becomes easier to see the flaws (how long could it possibly take one of the finest space ships in the galaxy to wipe out thirty unarmed transporters?), I will definitely go and see it again.

Regarding Yoda, was I the only one who barely understood a thing he said? Maybe my movie theatre messed up, but for the most part he was really, really hard to understand.

To conclude with two instances that stuck with me in particular, while I am glad that pretty much all the characters got their moment(s) to shine, I got the impression that the whole casino subplot dragged the film down in the middle, took way too long, and the payoff, comedic or otherwise, was not entirely worth it. Props for throne room confrontation, though. Tremendous acting and choreography.

P.S. Also, that broom scene. And porgs. I love porgs. Chewbacca loves porgs as well. He told me they taste like space chicken.

    I saw it last night.

It was better than the last one but still disappointing. I'd give it a 6-7/10. Like, it's passable, but for a continuation of star wars, it is definitely sub-par. Of course, it's better than the prequel trilogy... Honestly, I thought the start was awful, for people who are in charge (of both sides), there are so many BAD decisions being made. The suspension of belief is beyond what is reasonable. The end was pretty good though, it made up for some of the most retarded shit at the start.

What I did like: Kylo Ren. The moments with Ren and him in Snooks ship were enjoyable. He reminds me of Snape from the movies, as well.

It‘s like the old saying goes: "He who expects plausibility in a Star Wars space battle scene shall suffer from great disappointment."

    Edit: added spoiler tags.
