That is odd. There are very few astronomical events that take place on a timescale as minuscule as two-and-a-half years. Plus, that's a pretty big amount of dust to clear out, so the process must have been damn efficient.
Solar mass stars are pretty volatile when they're that young, though, but I don't see how that could clear out a dust disk so quickly. Poynting–Robertson drag - which causes dust particles to spiral into their parent star - is possible, but again, the timescale is too short (in our own Solar System, it usually takes on the order of a thousand years for it to clear out dust from an Earth-like orbit). This is very interesting...
