Mentos and the Government of Singapore

It's not often that I have to check the real life discussion forum, the WTF? forum, and the Official Funny videos forum before I post, but tonight was special in that it required all of those.

I post this in politics because there is a real problem in Singapore. Their birthrate is bottoming out, and their greying population is no longer able to support itself. And while on first blush, that may seem a biological problem, it's more of a political discussion type problem.

And so Mentos teamed up with their government, to create this beauty of a video I translated the title of and it essentially says: holy crap we need some babies up in here.

God, I love people sometimes. "Raise the birth rate" is obviously an attack on homosexuals. As for targeting married couples, maybe he's right. A generation raised by single mothers is vastly preferable to the traditional family unit, and anything that says otherwise hates women, freedom, sex and young people.

I feel like pointing out this has nothing to do with the Singapore Government. It's just the greatest advertising campaign in the history of mankind.

Lol I was in Singapore a few months back. The tour guide was all about this stuff. Not the Mentos ad, but about their aging population. It was lulzy, he was going on and on about How women in Singapore rarely marry or have kids before 35 and they want the Husband to be wealthy and must posses a list of material Possessions. I was like...lol dude, that's women in general. He mentioned this problem like 5 times in the span of a 6 hour tour. XD

The thing that baffles me more is that apparently around 1/3 of the Singaporean population is an Indian Derivative. And they still have an aging Population and declining Birthrate? O.o

The Indians there must be a strange derivative. Very strange.

It's actually closer to 10%, IIRC. Malays tend to have more kids than Indians round here regardless, though.

Wut? Surprising but I'm not. It is a problem, Government is trying to get us to have more children but the people here are calculative to the dollar and cents. A lot of my friends actually calculate if they can afford to let their kids have a piano lessons when they are just in the first term. -_-;;
