The first POA chapters were unlocked a few days ago for me. They seemed pretty rushed, and I was disappointed that we couldn't pick out out own extracurricular classes and got stuck with Care of Magical Creatures and Divination instead.

Nothing really new as far as information goes. The animation seemed to be really bad in these chapters, though the illustrations themselves were fine.

The truth is, it’s demons that keep a tortured writer’s spirit alive, not Tootsie Rolls. Sure they’ll give you a tiny burst of energy, but they won’t do squat for your writing. So treat your demons with the respect they deserve, and with enough prescriptions to keep you wearing pants.

I just happened to come across it today.

Yeah nothing since PS had a really polished feeling. It's not like they can't afford the money to pay real programmers and artists. I think the spell and potion brewing is a joke.

Honestly I am amazed there isn't a mmorpg in the potterverse.

I only play this for the additional info.

I'd been thinking about modding a certain strategy game to this effect, but decided not to - putting magic into numbers is a task best left to more... industrious fellas than myself.

Pottermore... played up and until the ~5 chapter peek into CoS. Didn't like the brewing or dueling so I dropped it. Way I figure, someone or the other will end up copy-pasting all the lore into a wiki, and as such save me the trouble of slogging through the books.

While looking up something about Harry Potter, I found out that a few extra chapters of PoA have been released on Pottermore.

I don't even know if anyone still plays, but wanted to let everyone know.

I'll update my post if there is anything interesting.

Apparently Sony thought MMORPG is good idea and they released Pottermore on Playstation Home, although looking at the gameplay on youtube there is nothing impresive.

One of the best bits she's released IMO:

Spoiler (highlight to show):
Hogwarts portraits are able to talk and move around from picture to picture. They behave like their subjects. However, the degree to which they can interact with the people looking at them depends not on the skill of the painter, but on the power of the witch or wizard painted.

When a magical portrait is taken, the witch or wizard artist will naturally use enchantments to ensure that the painting will be able to move in the usual way. The portrait will be able to use some of the subject’s favourite phrases and imitate their general demeanour. Thus, Sir Cadogan’s portrait is forever challenging people to a fight, falling off its horse and behaving in a fairly unbalanced way, which is how the subject appeared to the poor wizard who had to paint him, while the portrait of the Fat Lady continues to indulge her love of good food, drink and tip-top security long after her living model passed away.

However, neither of these portraits would be capable of having a particularly in-depth discussion about more complex aspects of their lives: they are literally and metaphorically two-dimensional. They are only representations of the living subjects as seen by the artist.

Some magical portraits are capable of considerably more interaction with the living world. Traditionally, a headmaster or headmistress is painted before their death. Once the portrait is completed, the headmaster or headmistress in question keeps it under lock and key, regularly visiting it in its cupboard (if so desired) to teach it to act and behave exactly like themselves, and imparting all kinds of useful memories and pieces of knowledge that may then be shared through the centuries with their successors in office.

The depth of knowledge and insight contained in some of the headmasters’ and headmistresses’ portraits is unknown to any but the incumbents of the office and the few students who have realised, over the centuries, that the portraits’ apparent sleepiness when visitors arrive in the office is not necessarily genuine.

Thats actually really interesting. I never considered them being two dimensional humans literally and figuratively.l

1) What in the bits following that had ANYTHING to do with a witch or wizard's 'power'?

2) That was a rather stupid, roundabout explanation. It would've been so much easier to just say magical portraits are imbued with magic that captures snippets of memory and automatically mimics personality.

It kind of did say that...it just added details about how much each portrait can say. The Fat Lady's portrait still acts like the Fat Lady, but she won't be able to tell you about her life or advise you like Dumbledore's would. Whether that's because Dumbledore had the chance to talk to it more often, or because he was a more skilled wizard, or both, it's still interesting. Even if they have to educate their portrait, the more skilled wizard's portrait would still, presumably, be receiving a better education/would presumably be left with more interesting things to say.

Now, what if a meddling Headmaster put binders on your power because he feared your potential, and you get a portrait taken before the meddling old coot kicks it? Will the portrait become more powerful on the eve of your 16th (or 18th) birthday when you learn about how you're the heir of merlin/santa/the founders/etc. or will it be stuck at your old power level?

That was bad and you should feel bad.

But it all depends on your magical core, creature inheritance, the number of soul bonds, the number of life debts and the number of familiar bonds.

This is why we can't have nice things.
