Genealogy of Harry Potter (Aprox.)
Background:
I was looking back over some of the old challenge threads, trying to get ideas for a story of my own. I took a look at Midknight's Epic Challenge sticky and started to think about how one might accomplish his challenge in the broadest scope possible. Point: I decided that I need to know more about Harry Potter's ancestry and built a family tree for him. Some of it is basic guess work, a lot is comprised of the exceptionally large Black family (also the only wizarding family that fans have any real genealogical info on). I figured that, after a few hours of work, I would present this to the forum as a potential writers resource/aid especially for those who like to bend but not break canon. TL;DR: Potter Extended Family Tree: http://www.familyecho.com/?p=START&c...51369143036939 P.S. To those that berate me, yes I did search for previous threads on this, no I did not find one. You know of one? Congrats, you have proven to the world that someone can know something others might not. Feel proud of your inconsequential self.

Ok, so... for everyone else who clicked the link and was extremely unimpressed, there's a little bit more to it. Start clicking around on various boxes and the diagram/tree will expand a good bit.
At first glance though it appears to add nothing interesting and only seems to state the extremely obvious, save for the name of the Evans parents. I had almost hit "post" on a somewhat scathing reply when I finally figured out that clicking on things expanded it. It's actually reasonably detailed, so that's neat. I'm still not sure what the point of the thread is though, just to show us your family tree to use as a resource aid? If so, thanks. Or are you offering a challenge that everyone else make their own for various characters, or what?

Thomas Evans? Janet Evans?
Either this is new Pottermore crap, you've bought too far into fanon.

You need to decide what this is meant to be.
If it's a fanon resource to help people write fanfic, then it could do with some created fanon details like names and dates. If it's meant to be canon only, what you've already done is more or less the extent of what can be done, and really gives us nothing new. (Hint: I support the former option).

@Cheddar: While my intention was to provide a potentially helpful consolidated resource to authors, your idea for a challenge is actually interesting. It could also be interesting if this could be formulated via a public editing system to develop a Wizarding genealogy that extends back to the founders time. Adds a bit of realism to the world of HP.
@Jorm: The Evan parents names were created from my own curiosity before I decided to try and stick as close to canon as possible. @Taure: Your former option is actually the intent, I just haven't gotten to it and decided that each author who decides to use this would probably have different opinions or ideas on how to change and expand on what is there. So it is a frame work designed to consolidate canon info that while easily found is still a few hours in the gathering and organizing. Potential uses for this are: -Reference for politically oriented fictions where a pureblood ancestry is necessary to the plot. (The Black family is fucking convoluted in the extreme) -An organizing tool to help world building with regard to families in the wizarding world and their inter-relatedness. (Also political fiction reference)
