Australia - America's 51st state?
Since before 9/11, I've come to the conclusion that Howard is to Bush what Smithers is to Mr. Burns.
and to quote an American political commentator "Australia is just a drunk us." This couldn't be more true. Our general way of life is "girt" by americanisms. Everywhere I look I see 'em. Example? People dressed up looking like the just walked out of the 'hood in New York, complete with the whole gansta talk. We're an international joke now, and I hate the way John Howard is bringing us down. All Hail Australia! America's bum buddy!

I hate to break it to you mate, but Britain is in the same boat.
I mean Blair is almost in Bush's lap, it's really pathetic. Don't get me wrong I like America and the people who live there, but I'm also proud of my culture. I hate to see it disappear because of rap and hip-hop. One example is the increase in gun carrying, just to imitate American rappers. I'm also tired of the phrase ghetto being used for my area, you can actually get out of St Anns quite easily. I actually wish some of the people saying it would, it would save me hearing them. I'm embarrassed about my area's new hoodie culture, it's so pathetic even the Conservatives are using them to get support. Litha

Australia is full of conservative politicians.
*sigh* I wish we could go back to the days of America/n's being laughed at by all Australians.

I'm Dutch and the hoodie culture is even worse here. There are white boy rapper wannabe's who don't understand english!!! It just doesn't get lower than that.

Britain + Australia (and soon Canada as well) are America's little bitches. We say jump, your governments ask "How High Mr. Bush?".
It's really quite pathetic. I mean seriously, liberals over here look at your Governments, shake our heads, and say "What the fuck?". Then we go back to scheming to take back the House and Senate in the upcoming elections. But the most subserviant Government that the USA has ever dealt with is Japan's... Britain is a close second... But ever since Bush was elected Japan's Government has supported us almost without question. It's vaguely disturbing.

Something I said today without really realizing it till later.
We all know Bush isn't the one calling the shots.. the shadow government is... and yet... if Bush is the best fucking puppet the masters behind the scenes could get.. what the bloody FUCK does that say about the state of matters???????? We've had a Bush in the White House for almost my entire life. 2 terms of Vice Pres + 1 term pres. for G.H.W. Bush, added with 2 terms as pres of G.W. Bush. that's 12 for one.. 8 for the other when all said and done... how fucking obvious does that have to get?

WW2 we were America's bitch because England abandoned us (as expected), so we turned to America to save us from Japan.
We ended up with fken MacArthur commanding our entire army that we had in those days. Not a good thing, I assure you.

Sorry, Canada is the 51st state. You'll just have to settle for 52nd.
and the phrase is not hoodie. Its "wigger"

The phrase IS hoodie in Britain, due to the fact they all wear hoodies, believe it or not. We also have chavs and wigga's. They are all pathetic.
As for being America's bitch, well, thank you Tony Blair, thank you very much. God I wish Gordon Brown were Prime Minister. He may not totally oppose the Bush administration, but he's a hell of a lot less likely to lick his arse like Blair.

With that said I have a 2 page rant that I'll post about MacArthur at some point. The man was a menace (for instance his strategy for Victory in the Korean War). The ironic thing is -- we might just end up nuking them anyway 60 years after the fact.

Please. We defeated Japan in Kokoda trail without American assistance. In fact, when America tried to re-claim the Phillipines with American troops, they failed, miserably. Then they used Australian troops and we wiped out the Japanese defenders.

Andiais, if Brownie (as I call him) becomes PM i'd be driven insane. I'd rather have the Others in charge. And they're a piss-take party. But they come up with good ideas though, like making a 99p coin and painting the Dover cliffs blue
All those 99p ofers and waiting for 1p change shall disapear! Excellent! Anyhow, on topic, I for some reason cannot see Australia becoming a 51st for the US of A. Mainly because techinicly it is still under British control. The Queen still rules it, and can therefore get rid of it's Parliment if she wanted to do so. |

It's funny, but considering that Puerto Rico will never actually become an official state anytime in the near future, I suppose I can potentially consider the possibility of ... . who am I kidding? By the time the administrations change there's no way anyone will still be in anyone's "pocket" - or that might just be wishful thinking.

Especially in the later years of the campaign when the choice was 'Nuke 'em' or invade the Japanese Home Islands.

Okay, I am a bit lost here. Going back to the original couple of posts it seems as if you are saying that somehow the Bush administration is spreading the gangster (can't bring myself to use the hip hop term) culture worldwide. Hey congratulations! The US finally has a viable product for export other than fast food franchises and blue jeans!
Spacks it is interesting that you start your post by using a Simpson's (ie American) reference. I hope you realize the irony. This may be a broad sweeping generalization, but ghetto's have existed since the human race first started congregating in cities. The violent side of the hip hop culture is just an updated version of the Bread and Circus idea used by the Romans to entertain the masses. In this case it is served up by the media conglomerates that realize the mass commercial appeal. 40 years ago, they sold everyone on the Counterculture/Free Love garbage. 30 years ago it was Disco. Like any other trend it has an appeal to groups of people. This trend just happened to start in America and seems to have attracted a worldwide following. Nazism/Facsim and Communism were also worldwide social/economic trends that attracted similar followings. Perhaps I ramble on too much here. It just seems that in a world that is increasingly becoming smaller and more dependent on governments, that a counter movement is bound to be around. In the 1960's and 1970's it was based on telling 'THE MAN' to go to hell and just living your life. Nowadays, it is about 'whipping out my 9 and leaving THE MAN lined in chalk while I go party with my bitches'. I guess I will sum it up by saying that it is unfair to judge America by one facet of our society which seems to have taken hold in what you consider to be less than desireable elements of your societies. As for the main thrust of the topic that Australia, Canada and the UK are effectively US lapdogs, well that seems to be the consensus. I don't necessarily subscribe to it, but you can either lead/follow/or stay out of the way. Every government has a choice to make and is ultimately accountalbe to its population. Was it any different when Clinton was in the White House? Will it be any different if a Democrat is elected next time? I don't see any of you being officially annexed as that would require the US politicians to vote to dilute their powerbase, so be content in knowing that you will be soverign for the coming future. After all, for the next War the US needs to trot out 'willing allies'. Jim I guess I will come back and edit this to say that your view of the hip hop/rap culture seems to be similar to here in the US when everyone says that they wish the drugs would stop coming in from South America and posioning our society. Well unfortunately someone is buying into the product because it's cool or adictive or whatever. Yay consumerism! Last edited by jbern; 07-27-2006 at 05:54 PM. |

Tehehe, don't you just love the kissing cousins of Consumerism and Materialism?
I wonder how big Paris Hilton's Aussie fanbase is... Or how big it will be a few years from now (after she's starred in another porno).
