Title: A Kiss of Clichéd Proportions
    Author: butalearner
    Rating: M
    Genre: Parody
    Status: Oneshot
    Library Category: Humor
    Pairings: Harry/many
Summary: "It had all started with a kiss. Not just any kiss, mind, but a kiss he never expected. If that sounds like a cliché, that's because it is... and it's far from the only one. Oneshot, Harry/Multi."

Did you rate your own story 5/5?

The only real redeeming features this has are that the writer labelled it as a parody, and the spelling isn't bad.

Depends on definition of "own". I created this thread (so in my opinion it is good one and deserves recommendation), but I am not an author of this story.

You're not adding anything to the discussion.

As for the story itself: it's a simple parody - this concept has been done multiple times and this story doesn't really have anything else going for it that makes it distinct from others like it. Grammar and spelling is fine, but its humour only elicited a smile rather than laughs. 2/5.

Sure I am. It's one of those stories that pops up from someone with no posts, whose probably either the author or the author's BFF, and isn't at all worthy of being for review. I just said so without elaborating much.

If you need more information than "this is a bad story" then fine. Technically its' readable, so +1 for that. The question is: why would you want to? It's a tongue in cheek parody that isn't funny or interesting. Which is the entire point of a parody. This may as well have been someones author's note ranting about good goblins or too many inheritances. It's been done before. Many times. And much better. 1/5.

Eh. Vaguely interesting, but not brilliant or even much more than alright. Not library-worthy in my opinion.

Should you read it? I suppose, if you've got five minutes spare and you don't care about quality or humour. It's a bit of a stretch to call it barely recommendable, but it's not awful. 2.5/5, rounding down.

You probably know the author better as Melior. He won DLP's February story comp with Betrayal, and has Harry Silvertongue in the WbA. If Betrayal is not already in the Library, then it should be considered. It's much better than A Kiss of Cliched Proportions.

I doubt Melior needs to create a puppet account here.

edit: If you're looking for a parody, then Melior/Butalearner released the first chapter of Harry Potter and the Story Breakers today. It's nowhere near ready for reviewing, but it demonstrates a large improvement over A Kiss.

I wouldn't recommend this, but it isn't bad. I think Bulwersator did melior a dis-service recommending it here for review.

It would be better for "almost recommended"

    Whoa, totally missed this thread.

Indeed, as we found out previously, generally speaking DLP funny != my funny. Obviously after a dozen or more reads the novelty has worn off for me so I can't say if I'd still find it as funny as I did. Some of the writing did make me cringe, though.

Anyway I still appreciate the thought, and my feelings don't get hurt from bad reviews. I recognize OP's name as one who recommends my stuff on reddit and such (thanks for that, BTW), and it gets a good response when he does it, so if he missed that discussion in the Curse of Truth thread in the Trash Bin, I understand the mistake.

Ha! Joke's on you, I don't have any friends.

I'm pretty impressed melior, you simultaneously played it too straight and took it too far. That kind of contradiction takes skill.

This wasn't even funny... It read like a list, showboating each thing you hate about fanfics.

I suppose if you're feeling particularly bitter about the lack of quality fanfiction then it could be worth a morbid snicker but that's about it.

Writing is 90% dialogue and 10% detail which always pisses me off to no end but at least it didn't have any noticeable mistakes.

2/5 but only because I've seen so many fics so much worse.
