I was just going through an old pile of my books and I came across All Quiet on the Western Front. I read it back when I was a freshman, and I really enjoyed it.

I was wondering how many of you read it, and what your opinions on it were.

Never read it, but I watched the old movie version. I think that stayed extremely true to the book. That was a really good movie, I liked how they potrayed Paul coming back home and speaking to the kids in his school about war.

The film itself is remarkable given that it was about German Soldiers in WWI, but was well recieved in America. Of course then again in the 1920's the USA sympathized to a fair extent with Germany.

My favorite part of the book is when *I forget which character* realizes the truth about his teacher... His blindly nationalistic, as long as he himself was not out on the front, teacher.

-blush- Had it assigned for school for one of my social studies classes. Uh... I only read the first two pages and I stopped. The summary of it sounded interesting but I dunno. Even though I love reading, when something's assigned for school, it's an automatic turn-off. I ended up just skimming through the last couple of pages to know what ended up happening (and I did like the ending - well, the part that I looked over) and I took the test.

    -smiles- I got an A.

Sometimes, I just love myself. :D

It is a great book, a real classic (not like that pieve of crap by Dumas, the Count of Monte Cristo).

    Trench warfare is positively Remarqable!
