Years ago, I read a book series because it was recommended by my librarian but I can't remember it now. Figured I'd ask here if anyone could point me in the right direction.

It was a YA book series, with at least 3 books around 2005?. There was a boy and girl, and they were appointed the Magicians of their area. It was a bit similar to Tortall and Tamora Pierce's books where magic is everywhere.

One of the books dealt with the sun being blocked from earth?, one of the books was them meeting up with Whale Magicians and a Great Shark?, and I think there was a book where they went to a different planet/universe.

    Any help is appreciated.
