New awesomeness. Hate that they're setting up to finish the show though. :/

I can't hate that, because really, this version of Community just isn't as good.

Okay, let me clarify this. I love Community - Season 1 was solid and Season 2 was easily the best. But something started to happen in Season 3 - despite the great episodes and some great writing, the show began to fall in love with its own mythos a little too much, and Harmon's version of angry paranoia began to leech some the genuine heart that made Season 2 so solid. I dunno, the show just seemed to fall in love with its own quirk and lost some of that connection to reality. I think of it a bit like the Saints Row games in terms of general wackiness progression, and if you've played those games, you'll completely understand.

This opening episode, though... I didn't like it that much. It had all the surface gloss of what Community is, but none of the heart or the patience to go for slower moments. It looks like the new showrunners are taking the worst traits of Season 3 and amplifying them, and that just concerns me. Don't get me wrong, it's still funny (I guess), but I don't have high hopes for the rest of the season.

The good news is they had their highest ratings since forever , and they aired alongside American Idol. The show may be slipping but I think the broader audience will like it. So:

I've been watching the show again from the beginning with a friend that's never seen it. I don't think I saw much of the third season, so I'm not going to watch the latest episodes until I'm all caught up.

That premiere was better than most season 3 episodes. I'll be fine if the rest of the season at least maintains this quality.

Damn it, wrote a proper post about last nights episode only to forget to check the necro box... Anyway, good episode with a fun guest appearance as well.

And there's always Alison Brie's cleavage to look at.

Not from last nights episode but equally awesome.

Really really really hated the singing. Least favorite episode of the season, for me, but it still had some great moments.

"Has anyone else noticed that Professor Duncan hasn't been around for a long time?"

Dean Pelton was great, of course. I really just wish they hadn't had the singing, though.

Agreed. Their voices weren't bad, but I feel like that the lyrics took up the place of what could have been good jokes.

Okay, kind of amazed this hasn't reached DLP yet, but not only has Community been renewed, Dan Harmon (former showrunner) is coming back!

It's unprecedented in the history of TV that a fired showrunner is allowed to return to his show (certain never happened for Aaron Sorkin), and frankly considering what a massive disappointment Season 4 was, this can only be a good thing. Particularly considering Harmon's bringing back most of the writers that left at the end of Season 3 as well.

What's the betting that Season 5 begins with Abed waking up and whispering, 'it was all just a dream...'?

Great thing about Abed is he can break the fourth wall and wake up saying, 'All of season 3 was just a dream...'

Okay, necro is necessary because Community is premiering on October 19, and boy oh boy, I'm seriously looking forward to this season. Not only has Dan Harmon resumed creative control, they've also managed to bring in/back:

    -Jonathan Banks
    -John Oliver
    -Rob Corddry
    -LeVar Burton
    -Walton Goggins
    -Nathan Fillion

So yeah, October 19. Mark your calendars, folks.

John Oliver being back is the most exciting thing on that list. :D

You obviously need to adjust your screen so you can read the last name on that list.

Fillion is great and all, but John Oliver's humor is much more enjoyable to me.
