Since a lot of August has already gone, and many have voiced their desire for more time to write, this contest will span both August and September.
This has nothing to do with the lack of movement regarding the last contest or the fact that we didn't have a topic ready at the beginning of the month.
And the new theme is: 'Alternate House, or Alternate School'

This. I've been waiting most of the year for a topic that I found malleable enough to write decently about.

 

So between the 1st and 7th of October, a judge will need to read and review every submission from DLP authors who have had seven weeks to work on a topic nearly as open as 'he's left-handed'.

Sure, I'll volunteer to judge.

Seven weeks? Throwing my hand in, would be interesting to write something a bit more traditional for HP than my usual far-out ideas. Or maybe I could incorporate them?

Nah, chapters for already in progress stories do not count. As I discovered when I stated my intention to submit the next chapter of 'The Unforgiving Minute' for the May contest.

 

Are there any requirements to be a judge? also, and more importantly as I feel I'll write something, is there a limit on how long the maximum length for a story is? Or can I just write a full seven year fic? Seven weeks for seven years...

 

1). You can't write a story *and* judge, but even if you submit your name to judge its a randomized crap-shoot to select who makes it and who doesn't, so long as more than five apply.

2). You can make it however long you want, so long as you can fit it within 300k characters(thanks T3t). Here's a link with the full details and such: Rules

 

Each post on the forums has a max length of 300k characters. For me, that's about 50-55k words. If your story is longer, you can work something out with the mods.

 

Yeah I can't imagine them not allowing a story because its too long.
