In the interests of accuracy I should like to point out that, depending on how you define biological sex, there are more than two options. Intersex people exist and continue to struggle for recognition.
(I grant you birth certificates tend to require a choice of male or female, so you could ask what is shown on the person's birth certificate, but trans people can often get their birth certificates amended too. Probably the most accurate wording to arrive at what I believe to be the intended result would be "What gender were you considered to be at birth?")
