After reading various Slytherin!Harry stories I started wondering if there are any fics that deal with Draco being sorted into Gryffindor?

Preferably not crack or some one-shots with the premise of "it's all a dream".

It's an interesting concept, but he's so not-Gryffindor I don't know how it coul dpossible work.

He is loyal to his family. That's a Hufflepuff trait. The leap to Gryffindor can't be too far if done right. Hell, I'd love to see that story written. It has the potential to be as good as that Slytherin Ginny story.

I dunno, rushing into trying to kill the most powerful (light) wizard alive to save his family is pretty courageous from a certain point of view.

It's probably been pointed out before but he did get those paired wardrobes working again. That can't have been easy. Under the right circumstances he might have fitted in Ravenclaw too.

It's almost like most children can fit into a variety of generalizations.

Which is why I maintain that Sorting is a terrible idea.

    I don't know if it's entirely terrible. I just...

Sometimes I think they sort too soon.

Or maybe, the secret of the sorting is that it doesn't fucking matter, it's just used to organize the students into four different groups for classes and activities and socializing.

Innocent series, too bad that it's basically a rehash of canon plot, despite all the changes.

Ups, forgot about it. Here it is - https://www.fanfiction.net/s/9469064
Edit: This is pre-Hogwarts part, but it sets up reason for Draco's sorting.

    Like Brothers

    Growing up Black

Malfoy being caught completely off guard and now having to deal with life without his lackeys, among kids who aren't disposed to like him could make for an interesting premise. Unfortunately, neither of the two fics above do it very well.

It also parallels Sirius story, but I wonder what could be done with this idea? Would it be possible to have a story where Malfoy does not instantly rebel against his upbringing/parents and/or doesn't change at all from his canon personality?

I imagine if done well he would change but it would be gradual. If you look at say the best harry in slytherin novels... on the way to greatness for example. Harry starts off not that different from gryff harry, but due to his experiences and his interactions with new individuals gradually and believably evolves.

I dont imagine it would be very realistic if say by the end of year one Malfoy decided blood purity was bs, death eaters suck, and was essentially a stereotypical gryff. You would probably want to see a slow evolution and also an evolution in interesting ways (say what if he kept his beliefs or mostly kept them but started approaching them with a different mindset).

Stuff like that I would find interesting anyway
