Figured I'd make a thread for this game. I've pretty much been playing it exclusively solo since launch and love the hell out of it.

If anyone else plays, what do you fly? What's your fav ship? Fav weapons? Loadout?

What do you do for creds? What kind of player are you? How do you most enjoy spending time in the game? Who do you side with?

I've personally recently fallen in love with the Courier, but have flown almost everything. I love combat and bought myself a Saitek X52 Pro HOTAS to properly fulfil my fighter pilot fantasy XD

I probably like my Fer-de-Lance more for combat, but the off centre cockpit was driving me crazy, and I'm not a huge fan of the currently available huge hardpoints (WTB HUGE RAILGUN PLX).

 

I got it since late june now.. Can't seem to be able to adjust control in a way that I like. Even when plugging in my x-box360 controller.

If I can find a way to fix that I am going to start playing this over hero of the storm right then.

 

Just use keyboard and mouse. Switch rolling to keys (I had them on Q and E from memory) and have pitch/ yaw with mouse. Controls like an fps then.

Or be awesome and buy a joystick ;-)

 

It's not ideal, rank progression that is. Did empire quests at my power's home base for a few hours, logged off and the navy progression q was there the next day.

Throttle is key. Look down, it's also scarily accurate to what's actually in the cockpit.

There are cheaper ones. I hear CH HOTAS are good.

 

Keep in mind, i got that joystick when I was 10yo.

the joystick work. the control are fine. but I still feel like the sensivity is not high enough.

played arround with the control and i cant find how to incrase it.

 

My Anaconda eats Vultures for all 3 meals, with a heaping side of other Anaconda's and Pythons.

 

The Vulture is an awesome little ship. Almost everything you could want in a nice little bounty hunting/combat focused ship. (Federal Assault Ship is still better, but a lot more expensive.)

I'm mostly in my Anaconda for exploring/cargo trading. Kinda nice being able to make 1.5-2 million credits in a few short hops.

 

I haven't played for a few months, but isn't there a beefed up vulture now too? Mk4 or something?

I'm not sure what I'm waiting for to get back into Elite.

Actually, I know exactly what it is. Center the fucking cockpit on that FdL /rage

 

There's a Mk IV Viper and Cobra now, but the 'new' vulture is the Federal Assault Ship, more or less.

A lot of people call it the Vulture's big brother, etc.

And I pray they don't center the cockpit on the FdL. That thing is my baby, it's killed sooooo many things in HazRES's.

Although, once I get the Federal Corvette....

Meh, I personally find the Corvette unappealing. One billion to completely outfit it, about 50 million insurance and the low jump range are all things that convinced me to stick with the Anaconda.

Though maybe at least the terrible jump range will improve with 2.1, if the engineers will be able to upgrade FSD's.

 

It always bugged me that the huge ships had such poor jump ranges.

Especially since mass should seemingly have no effect on jump ranges with the Frame Shift system (essentially creating negative space in front of the ship, if I understand correctly).

 

It's not all huge ships though, it's pretty much only the Corvette. The Cutter has pretty acceptable jump range if you outfit it for trading (which is what you should do, since it's not a good combat ship). And the Anaconda still has one of the best jump ranges in the game, which is why it's considered one of the best ships for explorers.

Also, you kind of got it correct. Supercruise pretty much works like you've described, but the jumps between systems are done with hyperspace, so there are differences there.
