Okay guys, I'm not the most tech savvy person around and my meager skills when it comes to computers hit a dead end when I was looking for a possible upgrade for my laptop.

    Intel (R) Core (TM) 2 Duo CPU T9600 @2.80 GHz 2.80 Ghz

4 GB Ram - 64 Bit operating system

    Graphic Card GT240M

    Asus N51V

I've been searching for an upgrade for a while, but all I know about graphic cards in laptops is that not many fit inside them because of the limited space inside the case.

I'd be really thankful if anyone have a suggestion on what I should do.

You can't really upgrade the graphics card in a laptop. I mean, it's not impossible, but it's not exactly plug and play.

I was scared of that, it's possibly why my research hit a dead end.

So if my graphic card is ruined, I have to do what? Purchase the same graphic card again?

There are external graphics cards for laptops. But they need thunderbolt connections to really work. Also the adapters aren't exactly cheap, so your probably better off just getting another laptop.

Unless your laptop accepts an MXM graphics module (and seeing as you've listed a GT 240M, it won't), your only recourse is to get a new laptop. External graphics via thunderbolt is apparently flaky because proper drivers haven't been written for them yet (but they can be forced if you take the time to edit the drivers to accept it).

Thank you all for the replies. I'll return the favor one day, I hope.

And yak, I'll keep what you said in my mind. When I'm finally finished with school and start working it'll help to have a starting point at least.

Is there is anything wrong with your laptop?

If not maybe you should consider keeping the laptop and buying a desktop.

The performance/price ratio for desktops is more favorable compared to laptops and upgrades to individual components are a cinch.
