Well, I'd never call him "great" but Agent-G has a pretty big body of work that is generally average to above average. Not spectacular but a decent way to pass the time. (And not pairing or smut-centric which it seems to fester in other fandoms even more than HP). A couple of his longer fics are about Spider-Man joining up with the Justice League (Justice League: The Spider has a sequel ongoing), Spider-X (with spidey and the X-Men evolution crew), The New Teacher (where Peter Parker teaches at Xavier's special school), etc. A number of them are all complete and 100,000+ words.

As far as eye-rolling attempts at romance, Eight Simple Rules for Dating Greg House was a ficlet on livejournal or somewhere that spawned a number of imitators. Fluffy, cute, and good characterization in a short one-shot.

Déjà Vu by htbthomas is a decent long finished fic that follows up from the newest 'Superman Returns' movie. (Don't get me started on what a retarded drama of a movie that was.)

I wish there were more fics as good as Jus Ad Bellum in any fandom that I read. I've read some other decent X-Men fics, but this one clearly stands head and shoulders above the rest. The time and research that the author put into it shows.

Calvin & Hobbes is a very well known comic strip that was in print for a good decade (1985 to 1995 I think). It's about an imaginative six-year old boy (Calvin), and Hobbes, his energetic and sardonic-albeit stuffed-tiger. Very well known throughout most of North America, as well as semi-known in Europe.

Warhammer40K can be explained pretty well HERE. I would suggest you read this if you wish to understand WH40K, as it explains it pretty well. Do not skip over the examples, as even though the list of examples is long, it's probably more informative than the main article (as saying it's a dark grim place doesn't convey what it really is until you start looking at the examples of just how fucked up a setting it really is (and you realize that it's getting worse)).

The rest of the characters are from a very well known, though either 'loved or hated' anime by the name of Evangelion, which is considered a must watch recommendation by a good majority of Anime fans.

Ahh, Thousand Shinji. It certainly had one of the most unique endings of any Evangelion fanfic, that's for damn sure, but the rest of it was a basic rehash of canon (though it was given the changes needed to actually create the end it had). Characterization within Thousand Shinji also felt a bit... forced. It's sequel though, The Open Door, I feel is a far more entertaining read.

The problem is that most crossovers either #1. don't give the information needed to help you understand the fic you're reading (or the context and universe it's set in), #2. piss on the spirit and or respect of one (or both) series (turning it into a gratification fic, instead of a compelling story), or #3. don't understand the universe(s) they're using in their story.

I'm not going to link to any fic like that, crossover or not, as they're usually shit to begin with.

Shinji and Warhammer40K has set up the story to where the Angels are now essentially in an Arms race with humanity, and they're evolving, changing, and coming up with new and horrifyingly scary shit in the process. For example...

Iruel, the Angel who appeared as a small colony of nanites in the anime/manga, and who focused on infecting NERV's computers and getting into the Geofront that way is now, at chapter 30, a floating battlestation over six miles in diameter with a lot of 'other' upcoming surprises as well that make everything that Nerv can bring to bear against it (including fucking Hellbores) almost utterly worthless.

And that's not even touching on how Kaworu has become the 'Eldrad' of this fic.

And that's just an example from the latest chapter. So, the Angels are actually changing and adapting in this arms race, making the entire fic actually evolve into something new and unique in comparison to the series rehashes that are so common in most other fanfics. The fact that the battle scenes are utterly EPIC is just a major major bonus to the major character development, insane originality, and utter uniqueness of Shinji and Warhammer40K.

You should see the plot idea he came up with for Bleach. Fuck it, I'll paste it here so you won't have to go looking around for it.

In the context of Bleach' fictional reality, the sheer amount of effort, belief, rituals, pharaohs stubbornly determined to rule in the next life as in this, and those that died constructing the damn things means that they had better do something. It's like Batman and his prep-time. He's older than the pyramids. Given thousands of years and the knowledge of real magic (or at least poorly-diguised kidou) what could he accomplish?

Soul Society and the Shinigami are impressive, but there has to be other Soul Societies out there. China, as already implied, is ancient and has to have its own structure for the afterlife. How about valkyries and Valhalla, where freaking EVERYBODY is like freaking Zaraki? Australia... actually, Australia might not need Soul Society. Dreamtime is not linear, it screws around with your perception of reality. Everything's connnected. EVERYTHING. I doubt Hollows could even remain coherent in the outback (there's also that the Outback is a desert; pitiful poor selection of souls).

India has all those tantric values. You gonna pass that shit up? Yeah, baby, let's fire up that chakra. The dead can feel pain. Surely the opposite sensation also applies.

Note that I'm staying away from the Judeo-Christian/Islamic mythos. Heaven is a vauge concept at best, it's a philosophical minefield, and we'd have to deal with a lot of people who wake up pissed off that they're not in Paradise.

Hollows form from derelict souls. In the show, we see that Orihime's brother turns into a Hollow simply because she stopped paying attention. What? Pardon me sir, but that's just... weak. Try Africa, that over there is not just ancient, it's pre-historic. There might be horrors bubbling in that dark, dreary continent that would frighten the shit out of Hollows. Living people embracing whole-heartedly the ideals of a Hollow; death is as much a fact of life as breathing. Therein lies the roots of man, savage and unflinching. There's no time, no room, no chance for regrets. Survive! Only that.

Now, either Hollows are a relatively recent manifestation (chains? what about peoples who don't have any idea of metal? [mangaka design fiat aside]) or that it changes depending on which Soul Society they are part of. Yes, part of. There's leakage due to the steady intermingling of cultures, but essentially Hollows are but another form of soul; which in itself is a matter of identity. Even Shinigami must change depending on which cultural region they serve.

The gratuitous use of Spanish (well, Mexican) bothers me. Why? How does it fit into the internal reality of Bleach; adding that again, like hell it's the world's only soul society. We need to see more black and brown people otherwise.

Here's the idea. Hueco Mundo is Mictlan. It's been taken over by Hollows. Its Gods are dead, killed by, well... Cortes. Either that or one big massive enHollowment of its populace as they were massacred, raped, and their lands exploited. The death of a civilization, a cultural idea, is also the death of its Soul Society. (This might also spell similar doom to Egypt; except that they were a lot less insular. Greece and later Rome played an important part. These ancient cultures might have mixed together to form something that could stand on its own. The dead over there maintain the cohesion of their realm.)

How does it link up with Japan's Soul Society then? I don't really have any idea. What I'd like to postulate though is that the natural home of Japanese Hollows is not Hueco Mundo but the fringes of Soul Society. That's even how Menos Grandes can get to Earth; using the link between Soul Society and the living world.

Which leads to the Quincy. That sounds British. Why are the last members of that family line Japanese? Once more, no idea. The imbalance of souls doesn't seem to hold water in the fact that there are more and more people on this world than ever before. Are souls being created from somewhere? Or are we instead manifestations of a pool of primal power, given definition only through our separate identity?

Aren't there animals in Soul Society? They're hungry. They've got to eat something. Are those souls, or made out of society's need for food, companionship, or sport?

Regardless, here's the idea.

There's this Ranma 1/2 fic which doesn't have Ranma in it at all. It's set in the Wild West, where a boy is cursed to change sexes when splashed with cold water. It uses the Ranma conventions, but just by being set in a totally different culture it becomes an interesting new story all on its own. Macho Caballo, I think...

What if we apply the same treatment to Bleach?

Or at least present alternate Soul Societies. The incongruity lies in either having a character travel to other society, but that opens up a whole nest of OC problems. Curbstomping, though fun for the writer, don't really make for much good reading (the image of a Space Marine waking up in Soul Society still amuses me, though. That's like 100% distilled spiritual willpower right there. What could his Bankai be like? Purge the unclean! Eat chainsword! WhhhrrraAAANGGGGGHHKK).

This is what I really want to write, though.

There's this young man, right? He's got blond hair. He's got a sword that's basically a big meat cleaver that he can't shrink down. He's in this afterlife that he doesn't really understand, but he's so stupidly powerful everyone either wants to kill him or follow him. He hates the attention. He doesn't remember who he is, or what he should be doing. He has struggled with regret, having a white skull mask that he can pull out and wear. His attack is this blue light that cuts into things. With it, he is determined to put an end to the chaos in the afterlife.

His sword is unleashed by saying "Light my way, Scriptor Lunae!"

He isn't sixteen years old, with no clear goals, and unsure of his powers. He is a man who wants only peace, and will gather others who think the same way. The land is brutal, ruled by those with hollow souls. There are no protectors in death.

He is a protector of man. And he shall do so, in death saving whereas in life he has sent too many into their deaths.

His enemy is Hollow Pharaoh, fueled by the energies channeled into the afterlife by his pyramid. The only resistance so far is a single old man. Stooped over, in keeping with anime convention a little perverted. Then when need arises, BAM! Excuse me? What are you trying to do? I INVENTED that system of spiritual arts you're using against me. He can actually hear people praying, but unfortunately it manifests at odd times of the day as an itch he just can't scratch. He has crafted special limiters for his powers just to keep them at bay.

Hell is what you make of it. Power demands sacrifice. The Hollows took the easy way to it, giving up mortality and morality. The blond-haired hero will, with the help of a crusty old priest, an exuberant giant of man, and a prescient nubian girl craft a civilized society for these helpless souls.

After all, making cities was also part of his job description while alive.

Okay, enough with the pointless teasers. Ichigo takes power boosts and improves ungodly fast. The explanation seems to be that he's born of a shinigami father, he's trained by the finest genius that Soul Society ever produced, and that his enemies are that just that much more experienced and powerful as well. He needs to catch up.

This somehow rubs me the wrong way. He's cool but it still seems like power that's undeserved. Luffy, for example, deserves his power. It's just being a rubber man; but his personality and conviction makes it even more than that. Everything in his life has been given over to one goal; being the Pirate King. Everything. Ichigo just gets even more stupidly powerful because the plot calls for it. To protect loved ones is good and noble reason, true. He does take a beating the meantime. Something still seems lacking, though. That line crossing from hero to truly epic badass.

Alexander the Great as a shinigami-equivalent would be stupidly powerful because he's Alexander the Great. In the afterlife, everyone begins anew. The powerful even lose most of their memories. The only thing that matters is what they can make out of their own two hands. Some take radical personality shifts. Others reach for power, but it has to come from within and their own willpower. The zanpakto are said to be a 'portion of oneself, called for in a time of need'? Abilities and appearance reflect their weilder; Ichigo has mentor-like figure and a brute cutting power. Byakuya gets delicate but deadly, street kid Renji gets a strange amalgam of creatures that stubbornly reforms itself... etc, etc. Alexander's sword is well, identical to Ichigo; but for a different reason.

In personality, Alexander always wanted to know more. He took on the reins of power at his father's death. He was looked upon as the supreme word by countless people. His sword would take on a wise, experienced traveler to give him wisdom. The attack reflects his drive to get it done, quickly and directly. One does not conquer most of the known world in his day by hesitating or taking the long route. He was one of, if not the last general to fight with his troops on the battlefield. If only he had lived, and pushed to the west. There would be less resistance than heading east... Spain would be sporting several Alexandrias by now. What Rome took through might and kept through fear, Alexander would take by the sheer force of personality. He was followed by a veritable city, the power behind his blade was the splendor of his culture.

Blood was not needed.

Just a place to put up a city, token obeisance, and the Hellenic influence spreads further. If only he had an heir. It would make the Pharaohs weep in envy; considering that they already made Alexander a Pharaoh over all Egypt.

Damn. That's what bad-asses in fiction are derived from. Even if we're heading somewhat in yaoi territory; though he was Greek and he did marry an Indian princess he loved very much. At worst, bi. The man could not be contained by limits. He broke them utterly, such was his will.

The incongruity is the conqueror as a protector, a warrior as a renewed innocent and inflicting a variety of humorous, humiliating things upon a figure of awe. In death, make him human again. I can excuse a lot of OOCness upon a. a loss of memory, and b. Alexander's so long dead that he's practically public domain.

+ Imhotep, like many others, lost much of his memory upon being remade into the afterlife. He is one of the few now who completely remember his life as a mortal. He was living then a simple life, a potter, having taken the name Phanas (as common a name then as Harry is now*). Aimless itching had plagued him for so long, but he attributed it to being so old; even in the shape of death. One day it rose to a fever pitch, leaving him curled up there in his hut.

People were praying to him. He was no god, and their hopes manifested as merely annoying itching. However, he did suddenly remember who he was and in just what proportions he was directly responsible for the fucked-up mess that was the beseiged soul communities.

+ The Hollow Pharaoh was an aggregate of many Pharaohs as stubbornly determined to rule in the other world as they had in the living world. Powered by the pyramids and rituals that Imhotep had built, they were well and true gods by the definitions of their era.

+ Imhotep created the 'demon arts' to aid humanity in destroying the Hollows. Unlike the soul cutters, which are rare and must be coaxed from within, this soul magic could be taught. Destroying Hollows released souls for rebirth, the process of which powers the afterlife itself.

+ The Pyramid, crafted upon souls upon souls, actually holds together a good section of the afterlife. Unfortunately, being a land ruled by Hollows, it was pretty much an eternity of Hell.

+ Hollows don't age. They won't fear ever suddenly keeling over and being reborn. They are truly, immortals. Until cut by an Akselor.

+ Alexander doesn't remember his mortal life. This is why he was so reluctant to accept that name or any fame associated with it. He does however, remember every moment of his three hundred years as a Hollow. There is no Horse and King. Oris Paulum is the mask the Hollow wears, not vice versa.

+ As the first ever Vaizard he was actually 'created' to find and kill Imhotep. Boy, did that backfire.

+ Navitaserii, for some reason, is a 'living' Dead Book. She knows the name of every being that is dead upon the afterlife. So far she's being used for scrying, but if ever the old priest gets around to making a homing spell she's going to mailbomb the crap out of anyone that ever annoyed her 'brother'.

+ Kushado is the most dangerous of Imhotep's guardians not merely because he has a shape-shifting soul cutter but that underneath all that, he's actually a velociraptor.

It's not quite fair to say "without any warning" though. There were slash overtones throughout the story. It takes a certain writing style to write slash, and it's instantly identifiable.

Here's the most interesting FF-crossover I've seen.

The Gunslinger
Vincent Valentine: A hero of legend, sleeping through time. What happens when he wakes up in Spira to find a new terror destroying the land and a new group of heroes asking for his help? Final Fantasy VII x X crossover.

There's a small twist, as Braska is the one to wake Vincent, not Yuna and the others like you'd expect from the summary. The writing and plot are decent, at least at this point. I think it has a lot of potential.
The updates are rather slow, unfortunately.

Also, be warned: his HP/FFVII x-over is crap. Seriously. (Though I wonder if there's any HP/FF that isn't crap...)

Thanks for the shout out. I'm glad that you liked the story. The published trilogy will be the story you loved, but it will be revised, edited, and fleshed out a bit more. When I started writing the story it was for fun. Later on, when I realized how many fans wanted the story published, I realized I needed to do a lot of work to make it novel worthy.

The first novel is done and is now for sale on Amazon.com if anyone is interested.

I hope you like the book should you decide to get it. It was a real challenge to take it from the online version and prep it for publication. The original draft was very rough and reading over it made me flinch a lot. But now I'm enjoying the opportunity to go back and clean up the grammar, typos, misspellings, etc and flesh out the story with new scenes and greater character development.

Plus, I love the two leads and its just fun having them fight off the zombie hordes, bandits, and other nasty characters.
