Umbridge was a fellow traveler of the Death Eater in everything.

Voldemort was on the same page as anything that would advance his regime.

Obviously Voldemort knew it was complete bullshit.

    New question:

Is there any indication that Voldemort could tell if his Marked followers were still alive? Obviously it wasn't reliable enough for him to sense that Snape wasn't dead after being attacked by Nagini, but he was certainly doomed.

Normally I wouldn't care what canon says, but in this case I'd like to adhere to known principles.

Actually, he could have been able to sense that Snape wasn't dead. It's not like he expected him to immediately die. He probably knew Snape was spending his last few moments dying painfully, and did sense when Snape did die.

As far as I can remember there was no indication that Voldemort could sense if the Death Eaters were dead or alive. Didn't he think Barty Crouch Jr. was dead until he stumbled upon that information by accident?

    Blizzarrrd is most likely correct.

Voldemort only learned Barty Crouch Jr. was alive because Peter Pettigrew brought him Bertha Jorkins and Voldemort looked into her mind.

Voldemort wasn't exactly in full control of his powers at the time.

I think the closest you could get to that is his speech in the graveyard. He spoke as if he knew that Barty was still alive, and that another Death Eater (I assume Karkaroff) had fled, rather than died in a fight. He also seems to know that his Death Eaters are alive in prison, rather than dead.
But, all three of those could be explained by other means as well.

What spell did Bellatrix hit Sirius with before he fell through the Veil?

So it reads like only the first spell is red, which he dodges. I can't believe I didn't laugh at the absurdity of that when I read it. Guess I was just too shocked that someone could be that stupid/cocky during a battle.

I think you can reasonably infer from the text that both jets are red given the way Rowling phrases it.

That's be at least an educated guess.

Did anyone in Canon ever refer to McGonagall as "Minnie"?

I went though the books with grep and this word doesn't exist in the books.

So, to be clear, "Minnie", "Pup", "Cub", "Prongslet", "Harold", "Harrison", " 'Mione", and "Ronald" (when not used by Molly or Dumbledore) are all bullshit Fanon creations?

Almost; Luna called him Ronald, and Hermione does in the last book after he returned and had killed the locket horcrux. To be fair, she was hitting him at the time, and extra syllables probably equated to extra punches.

    /shudder

Pup/Cub/Prongslet (especially that last one) are one of the few things that can make me auto-quit a story.

I think the "Mione" thing came from a scene where Ron calls her that, but it's because his mouth is full of food and not because it's her nickname.

I want to know where the "Prongslet" thing came from. Someone has inflicted terrible mental distress on me, and I have a bone to pick with them.
