I could have necro'd one of the old KH threads, but this is a new game with a new independent story.

Ten minute English trailer for KH 3D: Dream Drop Distance hit monday.

Looks fun. Not as streamlined and stylish as PSP's Birth By Sleep, but that's to be expected for Nintendo. Unfortunately, I don't have a 3DS, so I'll probably just end up watching the cut-scenes on youtube / reading the .txt of the dialogue.

I'm a tad surprised they made Sora look younger than his KH2 counterpart, seeing as he's supposed to be sixteen in this game. Weird. :sherlock:

    Edit:

    Release NA: July 31
    Release EU: July 20

    Oh, another handheld title. ._.

They can fuck right off until they bring me Kingdom Hearts 3.

What's the hostility towards handheld KH games? So far they all have been advancing the plot and are essential to the plot. I really don't understand why some people refuse to even play them.

I think most people think they are nothing more then a quick cash grab. They kind of have a point, but the fact that Sora is back, and the fact that Organization XIII is in the grave, should make for a good game.

    1) Chain of memories, while essential to the main plot, was a crappy game.
    2) 358/2 days was a boring side-story not essential to the main plot.
    3) Birth By Sleep was a great game and played like the consoles, but replaying the same tweaked story 3 different times exasperated a ton of people.
    4) The entirety of KH:coded's plot could have been a cut-scene at the end of BBS.

So basically, out of four games, only BBS had the guff to make fans happy.

I for one don't appreciate having to buy two or three different handheld systems to play one series.

I played this for about 20 minutes at Best Buy today. It seems alright. The added aspects to the typical KH combat system (reality shift and flowmotion) are both pretty clunky on such a tiny fucking screen, but on the other hand, having trainable pets is beyond awesome.

'The World Ends With You' characters show up in Traverse Town. I found that odd. I know the game is from the same production team, but it's not like WEWY is mainstream Square Enix material.

Anyway, if it weren't for the terrible camera motion, I'd give what I played a 4 out of 5. As is, I'll give it a 3.

Birth By Sleep was okay. The rest of the handheld titles aren't that great.

My biggest issue is that when you have a franchise that was as wildly successful as Kingdom Hearts, your handheld games should be supplements that aren't fully needed to understand the plot. They should have done a couple of handhelds where you played the game from Riku's perspective (CoM did this which I liked, and Dream Drop Distance does it a bit too). But the fact that they're releasing all these new titles that are advancing the plot on all kinds of different systems means you need to shell out so much cash just for one series, and it's just not worth it.
