That is exactly why I will never go to any political demonstration or march. My life is too valuable to waste on something that is so insignificant. Also there are so many crazies these days who knows what they might do.

I think that was in response to Oment's sarcastic quote.

I mean, @The Iron Rose , that can't be the WORST thing you've read on the internet. Probably couldn't even crack the top 100 worst things you've seen

In response to a sarcastic quote or not, it's still "whatevering" domestic terrorism. That's pretty shitty.

I'm not particularly interested in holding DLP to any particular standard because inevitably the standard is "basic level of agreement with my political beliefs." Though that being said, it did feel a bit lazy.

Just because general quality of posts is higher here doesn't mean there's a complete absence of low-quality posts.

Also, very topical: Drunk American punched for making Nazi salute in German bar.

The guy's probably going to have a rather expensive holiday.

I know that America is in the minority protecting hate speech, but I didn't realize Germany fined people for doing that. That's pretty messed up in my opinion. Fining people for making a symbol, that is.

Germany takes a rather dim view of those who would - even if mockingly - imitate ideologies that have been deemed unconstitutional. I believe they liken it to democracy defending itself - I'm sure @Sesc has written about this before.

Also, nazis are living memory for them and for some utterly strange reason, they aren't seen in the most favourable light over there.

And just because this is the Internet, it doesn't mean we can't call out low quality posts.

The US isn't in the minority in protecting hate speech. UK, NZ, etc. all have laws protecting it to some degree or another. The difference that exists is in degree of protection/limitation.

(Indeed, a quick googling gives the impression that Germany too has some degree of protection for hate speech where it does not "disturb public peace".)

It's obviously in response to Oment 'fixing' my original post...

Oh man... it was reported previously they were having trouble getting impartial jurors, and there was the report of the hilarious court sketches, but having an actual transcript of these comments is amazing.
