It's happening. The Ingress company is making Pokemon for smartphones.

Not quite the Pokemon MMORPG, but this game will dominate.

At first I was like 'hey this looks cool', then, after seeing mewtwo, I was really hyped up.

Too bad that it's not on WindowsPhone tho :( , knew it was gonna be that way but still...

Don't tell me I have to get a new phone for this.

Ah, who am I kidding, it probably won't be available in Poland until 2018.

I can already imagine all the disappointed nerds who are expecting this to be like the Mewtwo battle while really it'll be "tap the screen a few times", maybe with virtual glasses involved.

I'll believe it when I see it.

As I said on Facebook. Pair it with the Oculus Rift.

People would look downright silly walking around outside with an Oculus Rift on their heads.

They look silly now with their starbucks and iphones. An Oculus Rift would be a vast improvement.

Did anyone stick around to watch the gameplay at the end of trailer?

The Oculus Rift allows you to go outside without leaving your home. :p

    It's a smartphone app.

If you go in with expectations that it will have anything higher than Pokemon Stadium quality battles, you're setting yourself up for massive heartbreak.

That said, a mobile, online multiplayer Pokemon Stadium complete with trading and wild pokemon encounters sounds hella fun.

I'm hoping that they'll make it difficult to collect a large amount of Pokemon. Like, making it impossible to design a team completely the way you do in most games. Making in similar to the show in a way - if you want to build up a decent collection, you're going to have to travel around a lot. You catch what you can, but unlike most of the games, you're rarely able to find what you want.

As a result, people would have really varied teams - pokemon that are rarely used in the regular games (like Raticate, or even Bibarel, would actually be used by some, if only for lack of better alternatives.) As such, trading would become a much more important aspect of the game.

Obviously this probably won't be the case, but I can dream.

Original 151 only please. This has the potential to be so damn amazing, if not now then in a few generations with something like google glass.

I'm just thinking, if everyone can play this game, and the engagement is sufficient to fuel imsgination greater than the handheld consoles, will this cause an increase in fanfiction or decrease?

Is this even a relevant question?

Either way, with the Great Barrier Reef only a few hundred kilometres away, it might finally give me a reason to go there. And to Uluru (Ayer's Rock).

Has anyone looked up Ingress, the other game this co-developing company made? Just heard some crazy things the players of that game did since it was based on real-world locations...

The snippets of gameplay I've seen don't really bode well compared to the advert, but it is exactly the level you'd expect - updated Stadium, really.

Also, I'm loving the ideas people are having about where the pokemon will end up (linked because I can't be bothered resizing):

    First one

    And second

Imagine if the number of legendaries was limited to one per country.

You'd have people selling Mewtwo on ebay.

Thank you you for giving me inspiration for my next adventure/startup.

I'm going to be a traveling Pokemon Reseller.

Perfect job for backpacking around Europe anyway :D
