    DOTA thing. Basically, for any given action (attack, cast), there's a wind up animation followed by the cast, followed by a finishing animation. Animation cancelling involves the use of the stop button to shave milliseconds off an animation to improve your chasing speed or to cancel a cast animation immediately before the actual effect in order to provoke a reaction from an opponent, for example. Also can be used to make last hitting more precise, since you don't have to walk away to prevent the attack from going off.
