Here's a fun activity that may be interesting to play around with.

You simply go to an online dice-roll, like the one on random.org/dice/ and roll the dice 9 times (or roll 9 dices once).

Using your results and the options I've written below you get a randomized Harry Potter First Year Adventure.

1 * Hagrid. 3 * Cedric. 4 * Frog. 1 * Ron. 1 * Gryffindor. 6 * Death Eaters attack the castle. 5 * A Time Turner. 3 * Himself, immortal and godlike. 2 * Easy Level (Fire Crabs, Venomous Tentaculas, simple Maze Room, Chess, Three Trolls, Quirrell).

The half-giant Hagrid mumble-roars Harry away from the mundane, muggle life he has always lead, where he is introduced more properly to things within the Wizarding World by an older, honest boy named Cedric Diggory. Inspired by Cedric's attitude he chooses not to leap too far out of his depths by choosing an ordinary amazonian tree frog for his pet. On the train ride another boy, his own age, establishes a common-bond - they have both grown up poor, receiving the hand-me-downs of their family despite coming from decent lines.

Ron's attitude pushes Harry to choose Gryffindor when the time is right, and some months later his courage is tested when Death Eaters bombard the school in an attempt to take his life in their fallen Lord's name. Several students and staff are critically injured before the assault is driven back, himself included.

After awakening he finds himself changed by the near-death experience. A time-turner, much advanced magic, only convinces him that he is already out of his depths and liable to be assaulted again at a moment's notice, hence the note that warned him to 'turn twice and check every corner'.

Stumbling upon the Mirror of Erised one night he finds that his fondest desire is to be strong, even godlike, so strong that no Death Eater can ever hurt him again. Spells that had wounded him before simply glance aside. He looks back on Cedric's views and realizes he will never become as the Mirror shows without the hard work and effort to get there.

Despite his insecurities, when he hears that Voldemort is back and after immortality, he sets forth to stop that man from attaining the stone - and with his time turner, he is not so afraid of what the inevitable meeting with achieve.

1, Who delivers Harry's letter? Dumbledore, taking an interest in Harry early.

2, Who meets Harry in Diagon Alley? Luna and Xenophilius, meaning this will either be an awful story or a total crackfic.

3, What is Harry's pet? Cat. Let's say Crookshanks. Maybe Harry's a seer and got a cat that would eat Scabbers during the year.

4, Who sits with Harry on the train? Hannah Abbott. Harry's a Hufflepuff maybe.

5, What House is Harry in? Hufflepuff. Totally called it. He can manipulate everyone with ease because of how underestimated he is.

6, What happens on Halloween? Goblin revolt! The Quibbler did a story about how there's unrest in goblin society and that we should totally see it coming, and no one believed it. The Lovegoods can predict the future, but are related to Cassandra or something.

7, What does Harry get for Christmas? Marauder's Map. Seer!Harry knew it belonged to his father as he looked into the future about when he learned their names or whatever.

8, What does Harry see in the Mirror of Erised. Himself, immortal and godlike. He is, after all, a seer, and can forsee all danger to himself and make the most perfect precautions.

9, What are the protections for the Philosopher's Stone? Canon. Because this author is unoriginal and dislikes actually challenging the characters at all.

That was a surprisingly coherent story. It crashed an burned for the defenses, though. Maybe the author just gave up on creativity and abandoned the fic at the end of first year. Before Luna shows up proper. Typical really.

I'm wondering how my poor schmuck Harry survived the Inferi infestation of Hogwarts. He met the Patils twins in Diagon, after Snape just picked him up and set him loose. Got no pet, sat with Daphne on the train, was sorted to Hufflepuff.. so really, maybe he shouldn't have.

But hey, at least he got a Time Turner for Christmas. Isn't that every boy's dream, to become his own grandfather?

Of course, none of that matters since I too rolled 6 on the last one, thus insuring that much of Hogwarts population was extinguished, and Hogwarts itself was left a ruin.

    Round 2.

    2 * Flitwick.
    6 * Luna and Xenophilius.
    4 * Frog.
    5 * Dean Thomas.
    4 * Slytherin.
6 * Death Eaters attack the castle.
    5 * A Time Turner.
2 * Himself, rich and powerful.
6 * Death Level (Dragons, Adult Mandrakes, Lava Rain in a Maze Room, Basilisk, Death Eaters, Restored Voldemort).

An eccentric little man, kind and excitable, collects Harry from the Dursleys within a matter of days from the first unopened letter. Demonstrating the wonders of the field of Charms as they travel by Knight Bus to the Leaky Cauldron, and later dueling in the weeks after checking in, Harry is suitably enamored with the idea of competitively defending himself in the professional dueling circuits and making a name for himself on his own merits rather than an act he can not even remember and had no control over, an act that stole away his parents and left him alone and miserable for most of his childhood.

On one of his trips to explore Diagon Alley in the remainder of the summer holidays leading up to September the 1st, when he isn't learning from Professor Flitwick, Harry encounters another pair of eccentrics - Luna Lovegood and her father, who are extraordinarily pleased to meet him at long last and share theories on his victory over He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. It is an odd sort of friendship that develops in the aftermath, and Harry agrees to purchase a strawberry poison-dart frog to ward off Nargles.

On the train ride he meets an average bloke, Dean Thomas, a bit rough around the edges but generally agreeable. They don't quite become friends but they do not leave as enemies, either.

Later, at the sorting, Harry is placed into Slytherin due to his ambitions rising above all else, the drive within to make his own fame. Instantly he is unsettled about the stares and intensity of his new housemates, garnering few friends with his views on most matters magical throughout the rest of the year.

At Halloween things come to a head when a party of Death Eaters infiltrate the castle and target several individuals - Harry, his head of house, and the other main staff. Professor Flitwick contributes greatly alongside Professor Snape and Professor Dumbledore in driving the threat back without endangering the students, even taking a handful captive to turn over to the Ministry of Magic.

A cold division separates Harry from the others of his house in the aftermath. That gulf only expands when he is gifted a miraculous device at Christmas - a Time Turner. Devoting his spare hours to learning how to duel in dozens of unused classrooms, regularly rewinding the days into weeks and avoiding himself, Harry quickly grows tired yet knowledgeable, enough so to know he will require a partner to help him grow further.

During one of his late night trips he stumbles across an odd mirror. It depicts not himself as he is, but the man he aspires to become, a famed Dueling Champion cutting down Voldemort himself. In the aftermath he vows to reach out to Professor Flitwick about his self-taught sessions.

Professor Flitwick admires Harry's determination and tenacity even as he scolds the boy for breaking hours - repeatedly. Nevertheless in the wake of the Death Eater attack he can not fault Harry, nor for avoiding the Slytherin dormitory and the hateful attitude many of those children have turned upon the Boy-Who-Lived. Taking him on as an unofficial apprentice, the Professor and Harry spend the rest of the school year preparing him for the challenges he will one day face.

When most of the staff is called away to the Ministry to handle the much-delayed trials of the captured Death Eaters, the school is left vulnerable to a second infiltration - and Voldemort, brought with the rest of his minions, descends upon the trials of the Philosophers Stone.

Harry watches and bides his time, knowing he stands no chance against them by himself despite his training - but when Professor Flitwick arrives late in the night, Harry explains the situation and, together, they use the Time Turner and follow discretely, allowing the terrible defenses to devour many of the Death Eaters ahead.

By the time they catch up to Voldemort himself, however, it is to the scene of a reborn Dark Lord.

This looks surprisingly fun, though I've no idea why. Let's see what I get by playing around with this...
    Hagrid delivers Harry's letter.

The Patil Twins meet Harry at Diagon Alley.

    A frog is Harry's pet.

Hannah Abbot sits with Harry on the train.

    Hufflepuff is Harry's house.

The Forbidden Forest is set on fire at Halloween.

The Resurrection Stone is Harry's christmas gift.

Harry sees himself, immortal and godlike, in the Mirror of Erised.

The stone defenses are of 'normal' level, with Hippogriffs, Young Mandrakes, Fog in a Maze Room, Murderous Chess, and a Competent Quirrell.

As the clock strikes midnight on Harry's birthday, a half-giant named Hagrid enters the cabin bearing amazing news. Harry is a wizard, and a whole world awaits.

They go shopping at Diagon Alley where Harry meets the Parvati twins. They aren't as alike as he has heard twins tend to be, with one of them rambling about books and the other going on about her hair. He smiles and nods along as they chatter at him in the robe shop before breathing a sigh of relief and rejoining Hagrid for ice cream. Girls are weird.

Hagrid and Harry are on their way to Eyelops Owl Emporium when a magical frog escapes from a nearby pet store and tap dances up to Harry. "Hello my baby!" it says, jiggling around and croaking in between words. Harry snickers at the sight and a burst of glowing light emanates from the frog. When it's a gone a tiny tophat and cane are present, and Hagrid claps his hands in glee. "Blimey, Harry! You're a lucky fellow innit ya? That's a familiar bond forming, that is. You'll want to pick that little feller up and go pay for 'im. Right rare to form a bond as young as you are. Can always get an owl later iffin you need one." Harry scoops the little frog up and carries him inside to pay - the frog, whom he names Bugs, is the first creature to ever want him.

...and I wanted to finish writing this, but I'm going to be late. It'll have to wait, and then I probably won't get to it, but this is still fun times, heh.

    3. The Resurrection Stone

What does Harry see in the Mirror of Erised?
    2. Himself, rich and powerful

    What are the Stone's defenses?
    2. Easy.

One day Dumbledore shows up on Privet Drive, and Harry is struck by how easily the man bullies the Dursleys. He is taken to Diagon Ally, and he meets Cedric in the pet shop. Amos Diggory brags about how wonderful his son is. As a result, the shop owner (perhaps an old lady or an old friend of Amos') gives Cedric a free frog. Cedric doesn't want it, so he generously gives it to Harry. Dumbledore buys Harry an owl (Hedwig) anyway ("Why, amphibians were all the rage when I was a student. Be careful to hold onto him when your owl is about. That would herald tragedy." Dumbledore smiled cheerfully before he walked passed. Harry was unsure whether the professor winked or if his eyelids simply sagged with age).

Harry makes it onto Platform 9 3/4 with the help of the Weasleys, because Dumbledore is a bit forgetful in his old age (i.e. he thought it would be a good learning experience). On the train ride to Hogwarts, Harry finds himself in a compartment with Dean Thomas. He seems nice, if a bit on the quiet side. Draco Malfoy stops by their compartment, looking for Harry Potter. Malfoy insults Dean, and Harry likes how Dean just shrugs it off and comes on top.

Harry looks up to Dumbledore and desperately wants to be just like him. To do that, he reasons that he needs to work hard to achieve success, like Cedric, and he has to be cool in the face of confrontation, like Dean. As a result, he is sorted into Slytherin.

During his time in Slytherin, Harry notices how Slytherins seem to think that they are inherently better than students of other houses (he'll eventually see that all houses have this attitude regarding their house). Harry does not buy into this because Dumbledore and Dean are Gryffindors and Cedric is a Hufflepuff. He isn't shunned by the entirety of Slytherin, only by Malfoy and his crones (sore because Harry chose Dean over him). To annoy Malfoy, he goes out of his way to hang out with Dean and other Gryffindors.

While wandering around with Dean, they discover the RoR. Harry is drawn to a ring resting by a bust with a blond wig (Riddle hid the ring in the RoR instead of the Diadem). He puts it on and gradually becomes more sullen and bad tempered. He's paranoid when Quirrell spots it and reacts oddly; he wonders if Quirrell knows he stole it. Harry raises more often to Malfoy's taunts, which frustrates him as it's completely contrary to his goals. Eventually, a fight breaks out over Neville's remembrall, which Malfoy smashes. McGonagall gives the Gryffindors and Slytherins detention.

Halloween comes. The feast just about over, so Dean and the others head back to Gryffindor Tower, and Harry and the Slytherins make their way down the dungeons. Malfoy keeps going at him, asking why Harry's shivering in bed, scared that he'd be finished off; it's the anniversary of his parents' murder.

Harry becomes so angry that he clenches his hands and turns the ring so that the stone is resting on his palm. Inferi burst through walls and come down the corridor; there were catacombs in Hogwarts. They were hidden during renovation some hundred years ago.

The Slytherins panic. Harry shouts for them to run, and he leads back they way they came. They run into Quirrell as the Inferi surround them. Quirrell makes a fire, and the smoke is so heavy that Harry and the Slytherins lose consciousness. When Harry wakes in the Hospital Wing, the ring is gone.

Harry has become very attached to the ring despite the horrible mood he suffered for weeks. He searches for it in Malfoy's things, but doesn't find it. He figures he must have dropped it in the corridor, but he's always sidelined before he can look around properly. He decides to risk looking for it one night, but ends up running from Snape on patrol. He makes it into an abandoned classroom, and comes across the Mirror of Erised. He looks and sees himself, rich and powerful. He sees himself so powerful, more so than Dumbledore; he can rise the dead like the Inferi, but better, bring back his parents so he could leave the Dursleys forever and live a better life than Dudley, better than Malfoy (rich).

Christmas comes, and he receives two anonymous gifts. One, the Invisibility Cloak from Dumbledore, who heard him stand before the Mirror of Erised and speak to his parents. The other, the ring, the Resurrection Stone from Voldemort who found that the Horcrux already started leaching off Harry; thinks that it was the Horcrux that possessed Harry for a bit and summoned the Inferi. He decides it's the best way to end Harry—right under the nose of Dumbledore.

Harry's worried that he'll lose the ring again, so he leaves it in his trunk (that way Dumbledore doesn't see it during dinner). Through the Gryffindors, he learns about the Philosopher's Stone in much the same way as canon (because I'm too tired to come up with something clever). He sees it as the perfect way to gain the life he saw in the Mirror of Erised: if he were immortal and rich, he could spend forever gathering power and a way to bring his parents back. Harry tackles the defenses alone on Easy Level (Fire Crabs, Venomous Tentaculas, simple Maze Room, Chess, Three Trolls, Quirrell).

Voldemort offers him power and his parents, and he takes it because what the fuck. I'll edit this later when I come up with something better. Not that it matters, really. Too close to canon for me to want to actually write it.

    ---------------------------

It all starts similarly, with a friendly Hagrid saving Harry from the Dursleys. But things change when Harry stops off at the bookstore earlier than normal, meeting up with the Patil twins, both of whom are the only friendly kids his own age he's ever met. Although Parvati seems nice enough, Harry can't grasp her love of fashion nor can he follow her gossipy tirades. Padma though, is quiet but polite, with a secret intensity hidden from most, and Harry finds himself seeing a parallel with himself. After a brief chat, Padma recommends a few cool books for Harry to read -- for the first time, Harry is excited about learning something real. When Hagrid brings a snowy owl as a gift, Harry loves it, but decides to give it to his new friends, who are shocked but amazed at the generosity. Harry instantly thinks he made the right decision, and Hagrid is beaming with pride.

"Just like yer Mum," he says with a wipe of his eyes. So Harry heads to Hogwarts with no pets at all, but two (three if you count Hagrid) new friends.

On the Express, Harry searches for either of the Patils, but cannot find either of them in the crowded cars. A young girl notices his fruitless efforts and invites him to rest for a minute, as her friends are all elsewhere too. Harry thinks that this makes sense, so he introduces himself to Daphne Greengrass. Daphne is a bit shy, but she has a bit of the same sort intensity Harry recognized in Padma Patil. He has an illuminating conversation about the difference between Muggleborns and purebloods, and Daphne seems shocked by his "ordinary" background. She remarks, "you do seem to want to know a lot about everything, don't you?" Harry ripostes, "only the interesting bits." And she laughs, flattered. At one point, they are interrupted by a girl and boy looking for a toad. The girl is named Hermione, and the boy is named Neville. Daphne seems uninterested, but Harry decides there's no harm in talking to them at least. As it turns out though, Neville is too shy to speak and Hermione is annoying, but Harry feels a bit selfishly happy that he's found someone he can exclude as a friend for once.

In Hogwarts, Daphne is sorted into Slytherin, as she expected, but Harry is quite alright with this -- Parvati of course is sorted into Gryffindor, but Padma goes into Ravenclaw. Harry winds up Sorted into Ravenclaw, and is happy to be reunited with his friend from the bookstore. They instantly begin talking about the books she recommended, and this gets the attention of others at the table. Positive attention.

On Halloween, Inferi attack the castle, but are easily destroyed by the staff. Harry gets shaken up a bit though, and wonders about defending himself in the future. He meets secretly with Daphne, and not so secretly with the Patil twins, about various ideas. Parvati is impatient but enthusiastic, and Daphne loves the idea of a secret leg up on her rivals. At Christmas, Harry gets a marvelous gift -- a Time Turner. And suddenly everything changes for him.

Experiments galore are initiated, and Harry nearly meets himself several times. All along, his thoughts race and expand, multiply and increase. When he finds a mysterious Mirror, he sees an image of himself. Then another, looking differently, smarter. Another one appears, old and wise. Another then, strong and powerful. But then the Mirror begins to vibrate, and before Harry realizes it, the Mirror breaks into a million pieces and Harry gets knocked unconscious.

Dumbledore wakes him up and tells him he accidentally ruined a little plan, but no matter -- there's always another plan. He tells Harry to keep what he saw private, and do try to be careful when meeting oneself. Albus sighs, "You always are disappointed in yourself when that happens. Be prepared, Harry, that's what I always advise."

    Harry won't forget this advice.

At the end of the year, he easily breaks through the defenses protecting the Stone, only to find Quirrell staring at a mirror that is enchanted to seem magical, but is secretly not at all. The Stone was never there in the first place.

The peace of Privet Drive is disturbed when Harry receives that weird letter. He is not allowed to open it, of course, since his aunt and uncle don't think anyone would send him a letter. Whoever it is from, both of them pale when reading it, and it gives Harry some satisfaction. It if it were something bad for him, surely they would have said so, right?

A few days pass, and Harry has almost put the strange letter completely out of his mind, seeing as it is his birthday today. He received no acknowledgement from his relatives, but he gave himself a small birthday party in his room under the stairs, and he didn't really have any chores today, so it was a good day.

The peace of the good day is disturbed with the sharp rapping at the door. His aunt goes to open, and makes way for a woman of slightly advanced age, wearing a proper green dress and a stern pair of glasses. 'Stern' seemed to describe her rather well, Harry though, as he peaked from behind the door.

When his aunt asked the woman who she was and what she wanted, she replied that she was Professor Minerva Mcgonagall, deputy headmistress of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry blinked, surely he must have misheard?

Looking directly at him now, the scary woman went on to say that she came to investigate on account of his letter having not been opened or replied to. She gave him another one, exactly the same save for the recipient adress, which read 'Hall' after the road and number.

Harry read the contents of the letter while the woman had a chat with his relatives. Uncle Vernon's angry protests were swiftly cut by a single of the woman's silent glares. She summarily informed them that she would be taking Harry to Diagon Alley, and would return in a few hours with his supplies.

Harry followed the scary woman in a daze. Hailing a taxy, she took him a corner of London, then through a bar called 'Leaky Cauldron. She passed through the seedy establishment quickly, exchanging only a single greeting with the bartender.

Diagon Alley was, in a word, amazing. Harry was sure his neck would hurt with how fast it was swiveling, just to take everything in. The professor took pity on him and walked slower, but insisted on taking him through his shopping first and foremost, after a brief stop to the wizarding bank, Gringots. Goblins were weird, Harry thought, and somewhat funny.

On the way, there was a single store which drew Harry's attention and wouldn't let go. A store that sold supplies for a sport apparently called 'Quidditch'. Flying brooms were real! And they looked simply fascinating!

The professor sighed when she saw how vidly he was staring at the display, and muttered something about how he was 'just like the rest of them'. As Harry was looking, she greeted one kid nearby, already clad in Hogwarts robes.

    "Greetings, mister Diggory."

"Hello, Professor McGonagall." The boy said.

"Would you mind keeping an eye on young Harry, here, while I go fetch his potions kit?"

"Certainly, professor. Mum and dad left me here for a while, so it's fine."

"I'll leave it to you, then." She nodded at him, and left.

Harry introduced himself to the boy, who in turn introduced himself as Cedric Diggory, soon to be third year in Hogwarts. He seemed a little starstruck for a few seconds, but quickly shook it off, saying how happy he was to meet him, before proceeding to explain, in detail, how Quidditch was played. He paid extra attention to the Seeker position, saying how proud he was to play Seeker for Hufflepuff, his House at Hogwarts.

At Harry's question, Cedric explained briefly the House system and the Quidditch cup. Fascinating. Harry resolved to play Quidditch. If possible, he wanted to be a Seeker, just like Cedric.

They spent a while in the store, browsing the various items while Cedric lamented the Nimbus 2000's absurd price tag.

When professor McGonagall returned, Harry bade Cedric a grudging goodbye, and the older boy promised to see him on the train and in the castle.

The last item they had to purchase, according to the professor, was a pet. Three kinds of animals were allowed, she told him, and took him to a pet store so he could choose.

All sorts of exotic and magical animals were in there. Harry was rather intimidated by them all, if he were honest. He couldn't even tell what half of them were. He stopped in front of the cage of a small, normal housecat. It was completely black, except for a small sport of white around its left eye. The cat opened a lazy eye, looked at him, and then closed it again.

"I'll have that one." He said, grinning. The professor gave him a beaming smile, and bought him the cat as a birthday present. Harry was a little confused at her sudden cheer, but chalked it off to good luck.

Rufus and his supplies acquired, Harry and McGonagall left th Alley. She gave him his ticket and explained to him how to find Platform 9 & 3/4 on September the 1st, and several bits of trivia that he should know on taking care of a cat.

Harry thanked her profusely for all she had done. Before leaving, the professor had a talk with his relatives which he didn't get to witness, but after that she left. Strangely, after she left, his uncle insisted on him moving his things to Dudley's spare bedroom, ostensibly to give the cat some room because he didn't want to see it around the house.

September 1st arrives before he can realize when the days went by, spent familiarising himself with his textbooks and Rufus. The cat quickly accepts him, and Harry feels all warm and fuzzy regarding his new friend.

His uncle drives him to the station and dumps him and his things there, not even saying goodbye. Rufus was perched on his shoulder, seeing as he was tiny enough that Harry barely felt the weight of the napping kitten.

Finding the platform was as simple as trying out each column to find the passage. After a couple of minutes of gaping at the train, Harry made his way inside. He was happy to see Cedric again, who introduced him to a couple of his friends and helped him get his trunk and other things inside a compartment. Cedric told him at which compartment he was staying and told him to visit whenever he wanted.

Left alone, Harry and Rufus became comfortable in the seats, having the compartment all to themselves.

A minute after the train's departure, the door opened, allowing entrance to a dark-skinned boy. They exchanged greetings and names. Blaise Zabini wasa first year, like himself, and born in a magical family. He was what they apparently call 'a pureblood'. Harry himself was apparently a halfblood, even though both his parents were magical. Blaise explained, but Harry didn't really understand. When asked about his House of preference, Harry merely shrugged. Blaise prompted him to join him in Slytherin, where he had no doubt that he would go. Harry had no problem with that, as Blaise was the only first year he knew and he seemed friendly enough.

They chatted the ride away, only briefly interrupted by a weird girl looking for a frog. Apparently, Blaise was friends with several other people, but the compartment there was full and he had no desire to sit on a trunk or to be squeezed between others.

Hogwarts looked amazing, and the boat ride was perfect to showcase that. The great hall was intimidating, with the rows upon rows of older students staring at them.

When Harry's name was called, he walked up to the stool and nervously sat, the hat covering over half his head.

'But where to put you ...' The Hat finished his monologue inside his head.

    'Maybe... Slytherin?' Harry whispered, hopeful.

'Slytherin? I see ... yes, you have the drive, the ambition. And Slytherin will set you down the path for greatness. Yes, it better be ... '"SLYTHERIN!" The last word was yelled, and a bewildered Harry jumped off the stool and went to the Slytherin table, where the students were cheering for him just like they had for everyone else.

True to his prediction, Blaise join him at the Slytherintable and introduced him to his friends, Theodore and Daphne. Both seemed rather friendly, and the rest of the feast went famously as the first years got to talking and eating. Harry's conversation was interrupted by one Draco Malfoy, who proposed friendship in a rather formal manner, handshake and everything. Harry shook the hand, shrugging inwardly. Hey, one more friend, right?

Classes soon started, as Harry and his three friends explored the castle and struggled with classes. Malfoy, for all his offer of friendship, didn't really hung out with them much, preferring to stick to his two buddies and the Parkinson girl.

Harry, Blaise, Theodore and Daphne preferred to study together and head to classes as a group. Having already examined his textbooks, Harry was comfortable enough in his casting that he seemed to pick up spells faster than everybody else, though he simply attributed it to interest in classes, something that everyone else seemed to lack.

He almost had a deserter, when Daphne discovered that she was in love with his cat, Rufus. The evil thing almost ditched him for her, too, but in the end he didn't. Rufus took to following him around the castle, though Harry had no idea where he went when he was in classes. Surprisingly, they never got in trouble with the caretaker, even when they were caught after curfew, that one time. The squib simply looked at Rufus, intently, and grunted for them to get back to their dormitory.

Things came to a head on Halloween, however, when professor Quirell burst into the Great Hall, mumbling something about a troll, before fainting. Harry and his friends followed the Prefects back to the Common Room, where they avidly exchanged progressively more outlandish theories on what was going on.

Everyone sobered up next morning, when professor Dumbledore announced that though the troll had been found by a gaggle of teachers and summarily dealt with, it had just enough time to corner a student in a bathroom. Said student was now in St Mungos hospital undergoing intensive treatment, and would not return for a while.

That sent chills down Harry's spine, who was feeling truly afraid for the first time since he arrived. He resolved to intensify his studying as well as his independent study. he never wanted to be in a situation that he could not deal with.

Christmas arrived and went, with all of Harry's friends deciding to stay at Hogwarts, solely to keep him company. It so moved Harry that he would have cried if he hadn't put on a brave face. It was the first big, nice act anyone had done for him since professor McGonagall bought him Rufus, and it gave the four of them the sort of unofficial confirmation that they were now close friends. Exactly what Harry had lacked all his life, so far. He resolved to always be there for them, no matter what they needed.

Even if Daphne plotted to steal Rufus away from him.

He received a pile of presents, from his friends in SLytherin, and several acquaintances in other houses, most notably Cedric and his 'Beginner's Guide to Quidditch'.

Curiously, he also received, quite anonymously, a box of Collector's Edition, 1789 batch, Lemon Drops. He tried a few, and they were delicious. He kept the box safely in storage, still full, and decided to order his own stash of lemon drops, silently thanking his mysterious benefactor for the discovery of their sweet deliciousness.

When exploring the castle one night, Harry makes an unexpected discovery. In an empty room, sits a mirror. A mirror like no other. It showed Blaise his mother and late father, both alive and happy, hugging him and each other, the picture of a perfect family. He did not elaborate further. It showed Daphne herself, only much older, and she instictively knew that all the world admired her for her accomplishments.

Harry himself saw what could be himself. But he almost did not recognize himself. He looked like an adult, and basically nothing like he was now. He was dressed in impeccable muggle clothing, the kind that he knew was impossibly expensive, and his wand was lazily floating in circles around his hand. He exuded an air of confidence and, for lack of a better word, power. He repressented everything Harry wished he could be. Confident, rich, powerful. In control. The kind of man who could deal with everything that fate could possibly throw at him and come out on top.

On his fourth night in front of the mirror, he was found by the Headmaster, who informed him that the mirror would be moved, soon.

But that was okay. Harry had all he needed from it. He now knew what he wanted to be, what he wanted to do with his life. All that was left was to work for it.

All went to shit near the end of the year. Through a dizzying investigative effort on their part, the four of them found themselves attempting to save the Philosopher's Stone fron professor Quirrell. As professor Dumbledore was away, and professor Snape was nowhere to be found, the four resolved to attempt to stop and/or stall Quirrell, themselves. Theodore would rush to the owlery to send a message to the headmaster while the rest of them headed to the third floor.

The fire crabs, Harry could deal with, through a combination of third year Charms work and fourth year Transfiguration. The Venomous Tentaculas nearly got them, but Daphne's quick wandwork saved them. Most of them, as Blaise lost all feeling on his left arm from the poison. The maze gave them more trouble than it should, but planned, coordinated moves on their parts saw them through it. Daphne was the best at chess, but even still, she and Blaise had to be sacrificed in order for Harry to go through, which he reluctantly did after making sure they were okay.

Thanking whatever gods were looking down on him favorably, he gingerly stepped past the three unconscious trolls.

That was the first time he confronted Voldemort. There, on the back of Quirrell's head, was the reason for all his years of loneliness. He spouted some drivel about power and urged Harry to join him, if he would only help him retrieve the stone.

Harry ignored him. He didn't need a dead man to tell him how to go through life. He already had ambitions of his own.

Unfortunately, even his advanced spellwork was no match for Quirrell, a fully-trained wizard. Thankfully, Quirrell brought him close enough and made the mistake of touching him. Upon realizing that his touch burned the possessed man, Harry grabbed onto him with all he had, not letting go until he was not holding anything anymore and had ash escaping his fingers.

He woke up days later, in the hospital wing. Rufus was sleeping on his bed, unsurprisingly, but the headmaster was sitting next to him, surprisingly. The headmaster explained what had happened to him, and the reason for the pile of sweets next to his bed.

Harry sighed, lamenting the fact that no one had thought to send him lemon drops.

"As it happens, Harry," the headmaster said with a smile, "I do happen to carry some with me."

Harry happily accepted the sweet, wondering how the headmaster could possibly know about his love for Lemon Drops.

    FIN YEAR 1

    Letter - McGonagall
    Diagon Alley - Draco
    Pet - Owl
    Train - Daphne Greengrass
    Sorted - Hufflepuff
Halloween - Forest set on fire
    Christmas - Resurrection Stone
Mirror - himself, popular and famous
    Stone - normal level

I wrote out a summary of what would have happened, and then my internet crashed...the bits of relative interest were the forest burning down due to Norbet(a) getting out of Hagrid's hut and gatecrashing Aragog's lair, and Dumbledore passing on the Stone to Harry due to him being one of the last descendants of the Peverills.

Impressive, Republic! You can see how a lucky roll can bring things along. Here we have a nice combination of Blaise, Slytherin and the Mirror showing Power.

I hoped someone would roll that. It was bound to happen.

Anyway, I have Year 2 Edition already written if anyone wants to have a go.

Just say and I'll post it.

It's a startling realization that a random roll of the dice is more likely to yield a good story than 99% of the shit fucktards on ff.net come up with.

I'd roll, but I've only got 20-sided dice. Awesome idea, Xandrel. :)

Rep... Don't you have something else you ought to be writing? xD

Well I've written it coming from the assumption that it diverges from canon.

But if you can make it fit into a continuation of the Year 1 Edition, then you win the thread.

So, I rolled, and the first roll came out as 5. Now, anyone who read my year 1 will suspect me of rigging it so as to make it easier for myself.

    Should I roll again?
