Basically, a slight AU where Barty Crouch Snr's body is discovered by Dumbledore during the closing weeks of GoF.

Excellent writing and plotting, although there is a marked progression throughout the fic, leading into an exhilarating climax. Whilst it's not complete, it seems very much on the cusp of being so - this isn't one that's slow-moving, or directionless. Rather, it has a feeling of being meticulously plotted-out and self-contained, not trying to reach beyond the scope that it covers - think The Strange Disappearance of Sally-Anne Perks (only in this aspect, though - it has a very different style), except not quite finished. Moreover, it's utterly canon-compliant/realistic, and AlbusPHolmes has a great grasp of their characterization - especially of Dumbledore, but also of slightly obscure characters, like Barty Crouch Snr - that really brings them to life.

It does stumble a bit, though. It is a first draft, and you can tell sometimes - especially in the earlier chapters. The jumping around of character viewpoints can make it harder to follow, at times, and it takes a while to get going, with much of the first few chapters feeling slightly irrelevant to the main storyline.

However, it's a gripping, interesting story, and one of the hidden gems that can be easy to miss in the history of the WBA.

    4.5/5, rounded up.

    Moved based on the votes.

And I asked Alb himself and he confirmed that the story shall be labelled as abandoned.
