Sony Pictures Entertainment and Marvel Studios announced today that Sony is bringing Marvel into the amazing world of Spider-Man.

Under the deal, the new Spider-Man will first appear in a Marvel film from Marvel's Cinematic Universe (MCU). Sony Pictures will thereafter release the next installment of its $4 billion Spider-Man franchise, on July 28, 2017, in a film that will be co-produced by Kevin Feige and his expert team at Marvel and Amy Pascal, who oversaw the franchise launch for the studio 13 years ago. Together, they will collaborate on a new creative direction for the web slinger. Sony Pictures will continue to finance, distribute, own and have final creative control of the Spider-Man films.

Marvel and Sony Pictures are also exploring opportunities to integrate characters from the MCU into future Spider-Man films.

As a huge Marvel, Spider-Man and comic book fan, this is the most amazing news I could have heard regarding the MCU. All those rumors seemed to have been true and the studios will take Spider-Man in a new direction from the previous ones. Whether it's a new installment or a reboot, I honestly, could not be happier.

However, I can sense a great issue. Sony still has final creative control over Spidey. I could see Sony just going along with whatever Kevin Feige says but it could be the opposite way. Besides a, perhaps, small cameo in Captain America: Civil War, I don't fully know what to expect from this.

"Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios share a love for the characters in the Spider-Man universe and have a long, successful history of working together. This new level of collaboration is the perfect way to take Peter Parker's story into the future."

Seems to imply that Garfield will be keeping his suit, which I'm ecstatic about. I love his Peter Parker and am just itching to see him teaming up with Iron Man in Civil War.

I had hated the fact that they were gonna do the civil war without Spidey. He IS one of the most prominent characters in that arc.

I hope there is more than a cameo tho.

Hmmm... I dunno. Maybe I've just gotten used to having him in his own little isolated universe, but I can't really see Spider-Man fitting cohesively into the MCU. They should try to work him into Agents of Shield first for a test run.

Him and Ironman are literally the main characters in the Civil War arc afaik, at least the ones opposing Cap's 'faction'.

Feel free to correct me Marvel-experts.

    About goddamn time.

It'll be a shame if Garfield doesn't get the role, but I'll take what I can get. I trust Marvel to find a suitable actor.

Guess that kills any chance of Miles Morales for the forseeable future.

Sony really fucked up running Spiderman. Can't believe how difficult they made it for themselves.

Yes, but it's irrelevant. They won't be using the same storyline.

I have a strange little hunch that they'll actually end up going with Morales, despite what the spokespeople stated.

It would be insane if they never tell us who's playing him and we only learn when he's unmasked during the movie

While I'd love for them to choose Miles, I don't think Sony would allow it. They seemed pretty obsessive regarding Peter Parker. But who know, Abi Arad is now out of the picture.

Why would they have fired Garfield? The partnership is two ways, they're still producing Spider-Man movies, they're just going to have a Disney/ marvel director IIRC.

Like in Seven, but it would be almost impossible to keep a secret till the premiere and it would be out minutes after.

What I would do is make a countdown to a teaser trailer that would be promoted as a press conference done by Stark where he would announce the Superhuman Registration Act and have Spider-Man reveal his secret identity at the same time revealing what actor will be playing him.

Is Morales much better than Peter? I don’t read either Marvel or DC comics more than just sparse editions, but friend that does dislikes him a lot. And the fact he was barely 13 when he became Spidey annoys me too .

And what I’ve read from Ultimate left me with a bad taste.
