Both the Earth-616 and the Ultimate universe were destroyed.

    So RIP to both worlds.

One thing I've liked about the Marvel Cinematic Universe is that they seem to have kept a group of writers and showrunners on it who make an attempt at streamlining.

Some of the old Marvel comics would contradict each other left and right, generate plot holes, etc. At least that's my understanding from half the summaries I've read. Too many people playing in the sandbox without enough standards making them streamline the stories and characters.

Maybe we can get something along those lines now. Who knows? I'd read a complete reboot if it was done properly. Or maybe I should finally go back and read some of old storylines that were considered so good (like Civil War).

I'd care a lot more if I was still in elementary school and still subscribed to comic books.

My first thought is that this will be like the Age of Apocalypse, which will feature an AU for about half a year before restoring the prime timeline.

For the record, the Age of Apocalypse was totally awesome for a 5th grader.

So... they are basically doing their own version of the New 52.

How the fuck is Franklin Richards dead? He's literally the most powerful character (excluding Gods and such) in Marvel...

Well to my knowledge they haven't really done a big universe reset before (unless Brand New Day counts?), while DC did their first Crisis back in the 80's...

I still sort of pity the Ultimate Universe, in a way.

It really was. I have the big, stupid ultimate collected edition. It's still pretty awesome.

Also: having a continuity reboot every once in a while isn't so bad. I think the DCU has had like three in the last decade alone. Whatever happens I doubt it'll be so spectacularly different as to be interesting but not familiar enough to assuage the annoying continuity crowd.

Watch: they'll bring back Gwen Stacy just to fuck with everyone.

They already sort of have, with Spider-Gwen. It was one of the few good things to come out of Spider-Verse.

I wonder if they'll finally bite the bullet here and separate regular heroes and the X-Men into multiple universes, even if characters can still hop the fence for some crossovers. The shared continuity of these two rather different types of stories has been rather confusing since forever...

Also the Ultimate universe was inspiration for a lot of the MCU stuff, and I suspect we'll see more of those influences take over from mainstay 616 ones that have kind of run their course. The main ones, in my mind would be a more relatable Iron Man who isn't a giant jackass so much, the designs of most of the ultimate incarnations in general, maybe villain Reed Richards, and Miles Morales. There's some other things, but the Ultimate universe was best in its early days and never really recovered from Ultimatum or Ultimates 3.

As for 616, I really hope they use this for a proper spring cleaning which excises a lot of the shittier snarls that persist (even if they've never been quite as bad as DC got up to.) Retconning some of the more absurd developments included, like vampire Jubilee.

God I hope so. Keep the X-Men's fun-sucking powers contained, please.

They're putting The Fantastic 4 on ice, but I really hope they keep Doom around.

Deadpool died on a yacht surrounded by his family. It was the best ending possible for him. :') ... Sans his wife that is, trolololo.
