Who wants to bet that Dresden's headache has something to do with Lash?

That's a sucker bet, for sure. Even if it's just the first real problems with the brain damage he sustained (and Lash took for him) in the Deeps, it'd still have something to do with her.

Butters is cooler this time around, though. I liked that. Now I just have to wait til next Tuesday to see more. *sighs impatiently

I call Lash on this one too. Brain damage isn't exactly pretty. Although I'm surprised that he's just feeling the effects now.

Butters is freaking awesome in this one. If Murphy took another vacation with Kincaid then this book could be even better! (She irritated the crap out of me during Small Favor.)

How could I possibly put it any better than Jon did?

I've got to agree on the writing; it just seemed like a rather abrupt way to start the book. Very abrupt.

It felt like I was reading a chapter or two in, honestly, missing the set-up chapters before it.

But, either way, the headaches an interesting thing, definitely. I was actually wondering if perhaps Lash had left Dresden a couple more presents--like how he could play the guitar there at the end of White Night. Maybe she left him something else up there in his noggin that's trying to force its way to the surface now?

Or, of course, and possibly more likely, the brain damage is finally taking a toll.

I just find it odd that there were no mentions of headaches in the Warrior, which I assume took place before Turn Coat does, though I may be wrong. So this has to be a fairly recent thing; maybe someone screwed with his head again or something?

.. I dunno. All just speculation right now, of course.

What I really think it is or at least I'm hoping for is that blast Lash took for him in White Night didn't kill her it just "suppressed" her for a while and the headaches are her "waking up" again. That aside Sophie you rock for posting this, it had completely slipped my mind that the release date for Turncoat was coming up.

It's quite possible that he's also feeling the side effects of someone mucking around in his head, as Mab/Molly did. Also, did anyone else get the feeling that this started rather... abruptly?

Yeah, there wasn't any build up to Morgan showing up, which wasn't how I expected it to go at all. But, it's just the first chapter. It could be something like in... Summer Knight, I believe, where after the first chapter there's a multi-chapter flashback...

But, I doubt it, just going off of how confused Harry was.

EDIT: Ranku's mention of the meeting in Summer Knight cleared my memory. I was referring to Grave Peril. How it starts out with Harry and Michael in the middle of a car chase towards the hospital, and a little while later it shows the events that led up to it. At least, I think it does. I don't have my copy of the book to check.

It's possible, but Summer Knight had a pretty cool beginning, and it didn't just start in the middle of the meeting, either. This was just.. less than a hundred words, and bam, Morgan's at his door. No build up. Just "lol, headache gotz to answer tha door", then "lol, Morgan dying on doorstep".

I dunno, it just kind of bugged me. I'm sure the rest of the book will make up for it--but, there's nothing to really "make up for" anyway, I guess. Just a single chapter out of the whole book after all.

Still, I'm looking forward to the rest of the sample chapters, and infinitely more so for Turn Coat itself. Honestly, I think the thing I enjoy most of the little details spread throughout the books that tells us about how Magic works in general; every book reveals a bit more on it. For example, before Small Favor, we had no idea about how drawing the star for the pentacle had so much effect on it, nor did we know much about the "Greater Circles" and how they're made.

How well thought out and expansive the magic is in Dresden Files is a real treat when compared to something like Harry Potter, where nothing is ever really explained at all.

Awesome. And, N, you misspelled "Butcher" up at the top. Under "Turn Coat".
