Do you write scenes in the order they occur in your stories? Or rather do you write some scenes ahead of time and then need to write the build up to them?

Obviously real life is an issue, but for authors like Taure, Nuhuh, Shezza. When your away from your fanfics for a long time do you feel like you just forget about them or do they bug you like a toothache?

    Change of plans!

Due to a scheudling conflict we'll be pushing back Shezza's interview, but thankfully Joe has been kind enough to offer his time to participate!

Are there any questions you'd like to ask Joe?

It won't be a live interview, once it's recorded and uploaded we'll be posting multiple ways to access it including, among others, direct dlp hosting, youtube and soundcloud.

    So, Joe, let's talk alcohol.

    1) What do you find the most important factor in being able to crank out several hundred thousand words a year?
    2) Do your narratives take shape as you write them typically or do you know endgame before you know the path events will take to get there?

    Eh, same question as before:

What's the most difficult chapter you have ever written?

How do you go about creating compelling characters? Do you start with a basic idea and let the characters then develop on their own through the narrative, or do you have detailed notes on how they should develop at certain stages?

Is there anything regarding stylistic choices in your prose that hit you like a sledgehammer when you noticed it/figured it out?

As your writing has improved, have you noticed any slow down in the words you can write per hour? If so, is there anything you've done to try to counteract this?

Make it a live thing and let people call in, ask questions on IRC, etc.

Some random person calls in, no one recognizes his voice. And then he says oh btw, I'm Pers on DLP. Mind = blown, etc.

That would be pretty great. Although I'm not sure how many people would actually call in.

    Questions for Joe:

What does he think of the idea of continuing to write fanfiction? With a professional career well underway, does fanfiction now feel like energy, creativity and time better spent elsewhere?

Does the prospect of continuing and completing his fanfiction work seem intimidating for some reason? Does he feel like maybe after so long that the community has waited for it the actual continuation won't be as good as what they might expect? Or is something that he's just put off his mind?

Another question. I'm not sure how a professional writer works with publishers, but I'm curious about how you go about setting up a timeline for future releases. Do you have the plot and number of future books completely figured out by the time you complete the first, and are thus able to give accurate descriptions about future installments?

How do you plan for your future work that you might potentially not have brainstormed down to the last details yet? Do you never find yourself veering off from calculations you made a long time ago? Do your plans always work out?

Or do you only discuss books that you've planned completely with your publisher?

In writing fanfiction, do you plan out your stories in detail before writing them or do you prefer to write with a basic idea in mind and see where that takes you?

Is your answer of the previous question different to when you write professional fiction? If so, how?

Also, do you ever read your own stories (fanfiction or professional) for leisure? If yes, how/what do you feel as you read them?

Is there any blended Scotch worth the money (besides HM, which is divine)?

For the price, it's the best blend on the market. Bit of a burn going down, but then I like that.

Make no mistake, though, this is the swill water.

Heya! We've just finished recording the first episode. Thanks for your questions, everyone - we didn't have time to get through all of them, but we've definitely got a lot of awesome stuff for you. Joe was a great guest. :)

Jon and I are going to be having a little competition with the editing for this first one, to practice our editing techniques - You can probably expect this episode to appear sometime in the coming week.

Our next guest may be either Shezza or possibly Menace as time allows, so if you have questions for either of them we'd love to hear it!

You know how most stories start off as kind of mundane thoughts?

Like HP started off as Kid goes to boarding school. Percy Jackson - Kid goes to summer camp. Twilight - Pedophile stalks teen girl.

So my question for the next guest is when coming up with stories, are the original ideas kind of normal (even boring) ideas that you build upon? Or do you start with fantastical propositions?

Of course there is one question everyone is waiting for, if the next guest is Shezza:

Do you think your gender had any influence on your writing and your ideas?
