What I read when I'm bored and I don't want to look for new stuff really depends on my mood. Sometimes I want more serious stuff, sometimes more generic slice-of-life that will give me diabetes, and sometimes I just want an Indy!protag.

    Harry Potter:
    1) Knowledge is Power (by that guy who deleted it) - A guilty pleasure and one that portrays a passably written genius for an MC.
    2) The Lie I've Lived
    3) Oh God Not Again - The jokes have yet to wear out on me.
    4) The Black Prince/The Prince that was Promised- the only decent HP/ASOIAF I've seen written.
    5) The Lesser Sadness - Reading this always makes me distinctly aware of what improvements I need to make on my own writing
Some of Minstrel Knight's stuff, which kept me going when I thought Indy!Harry was the best things ever.

    Code Geass
    1) Ice and Fire
    2) Lelouch of Britannia

    Naruto
    1) The Howling Wind
    2) Team 7's Ascension
    3) Scorpion's Disciple
    4) Average
    5) The Best Laid Plans

    Worm
    1) Cenotaph
    2) Here be Dragons

    Others
    1) The Games we Play (The Gamer/RWBY)
    2) The Black Company in Middle Earth (Black Company/LOTR)
    3) Redivivus (Death Note)
    4) The Choice (HTTYD) - This is just pure romance and fluff tbh
    5) The Zerg Swarm (Starcraft) - Popular enough to spawn its own sub-genre in that fandom, each more shittier than the last. Still, fun to read about an OP protag in a fairly interesting world.

I like re-reading this one once in a while

Also is it bad my mind went straight to The One He Feared?

EDIT: How could I forget I See The Moon

Aside of Canon, that's the Dumbledore I measure all others against. Definitely one of my top 5 favorite one-shots.

As is Number Games - aging quidditch star Ron in all his glory.

HP and the Unlocked Knowledge and Escape to Darkness - goddammit, KMFrank.

The Well Groomed Mind - I know it's not the most popular thing around here, but I love it.

A Long Journey Home - Every time it updates, I re-read the whole thing.

Hmm...go to fics...some of mine are probably more guilty pleasure than anything...so, in no particular order:

    • Jedi Harris series by scribbler -- started out pretty nicely, though later on there were a bit too many crossovers, but nice to read when there's nothing else

    • Victory at Ostagar -- a lot of my head canon DAO lore is from here, though I skip most of the fem!Cousland/Loghain romance. Apart from that, I love it.

    • Transitional States by Rigil Kent -- the only good NCIS story I found in the whole fandom. It's even somewhat finished on a more or less good note.

    • Halk Online -- great world building, great characters and it's very, very long indeed. I love it.

    • Monkey Screaming by SGCbearcub -- one of the best Stargate stories out there. Honor's Solution is also great for a kick-ass Carter.

    • Prodigal by Domenika Marzione -- a nice SG/NCIS crossover with good writing and good meshing of the universes.

I don't usually re-read fics unless they haven't updated in a while and I need to refresh my memory, but I will say that Seventh Horcrux was just as funny the second time as it was the first.

Empires Son by blank101. Any of his stuff really. His style of having chapters pre-written usually means his plotting is a level above most of the other great fanfics I enjoy

Huh, I didn't know another author had continued Taking Control. The story has fallen out of favor with me, but I'll have to give its sequel a try.

It's got to be Jamie Evans and Fate's Fool (https://www.fanfiction.net/s/8175132/1/Jamie-Evans-and-Fate-s-Fool). Really funny and cleverly written fic, and I seldom get tired of re-reading it. It's relatively short, too - only about 13 or 14 chapters.

Whenever I feel like it, though, I like to re-read the Alexandra Quick series. It's in a class of its own. There is not a single fic that matches its quality, and it stands up to many a re-read. It does take a fucklong time though.

    Let's see:
    Swimdraconian: Circular Reasoning
Shezza: The Denarian Trilogy (plus assorted add-ons) - if you see this Shez, i still kinda hate you.
Silens Cursor: His shorter works particularly Chess and Criminal Limit, but neither looks like it'll receive an update any time soon, if ever.
Water Mage: All his fics especially the short ones (Awaken Sleeper is brilliant but not easily finished in one sitting) - From the Brightest Constellation and Theories About Nuclear Winter

I mostly go back and re-read these listed fics because each of them have elements of the writing that are so well done that I'm continually learning and referencing from them - from Swim's masterful prose to Silens' gripping dialogue and plotting to Shezza's everything to WM's duels and pure fun factor.
