1. Hey Guest, welcome back to DLP

As you can see, we've changed our look. We've migrated from vBulletin to the Xenforo forum system. There may be issues or missing functionality, if you find anything or have feedback, please check out the new Xenforo Migration Feedback forum.

Our dark ("Dark Lord Potter") theme is under heavy development. We also have a light ("Light Lord Potter") theme for those happier with a light background and darker text.

Today I made some modifications to my forge, built a (really crude) bar stool and made a knife. Its wobbly and only made out of mild steel but I made it my very own self so I'm proud of it. :D

Why is the bar you made the knife out of twisted? Always thought smithing would be a great thing to do, have been tempted by a local place that teaches bronze/Iron Age smithing techniques

Just for decorative purposes really, its called a blacksmiths knife, there's some debate how as to old the design is (some say viking) but almost every blacksmith makes on at some point. Needs cleaning up and grinding still, and may point the blade.

For comparison, heres someone elses far nicer one.

Edit: Improved my stool, its still not pretty, but its actually comfortable now. With a bit of woodstain and a sander I could upgrade it to 'charmingly Rustic.'

I too, like Basilisk, ply my hand at some fantasy cartography. You may notice some similarity between our styles, I taught him everything he knows ;)

Here are some I've made for our ongoing DnD 5e campaign:

So, anybody have any good woodworking resources? I'd like to make a small elevated dog bed with a ramp for the dog to come and go, but I've never done much woodworking and I'm a little uncertain as to how to go about it. Don't want it collapsing the first time she uses it.

I'm still trying to figure out how you did the texture for the Tree Map ;)

Samuel Black If you don't mind the rustic look, I'd say make it out of pallets, (if your poor and want to do it for free they are pretty easy to pick up) or 2"2 planks. You can nail something sturdy together pretty easily, and there's no need for and joinery or special equipment. Minimum you need a hammer, nails, saw, tape-measure, sandpaper and perhaps wood stain.

Something like this would be pretty easy, , all you would have to do is thicken and lengthen those four posts to raise it, Put a set of supporting planks around the bottom of the legs if your worried (though you shouldn't need to if its not too high.) and nail/screw a bit of plywood or 2 short planks into place as a ramp, sand it and stain it and you are done.

If you want more detail I could write out all you would need to do but to be honest, its pretty easy to work out with a few google searches.

Finished my first city map. I'm on the fence about the final result, but I'm happy to be done with it that's for sure.

I threw a set of mugs in the pottery studio that I managed to make pretty much the same shape and size with the only actual measurement I made being the weight of the amounts of clay used. I just wanted to know if I was capable of it.

Some 3D models on Blender. It's something I really want to get into more, but don't really have the time to spend on.

Finished this the other night, after getting frustrated with a portrait. I just couldn't get the left eye to look good. sigh.
Landscape pieces are just so calming.
