Pretty much what the title says: I'm curious about what's getting shoved down DLP's eyeholes. We're all doing lots of things at any given time, so share a bit about the various forms of media you're watching/reading/listening to today.

This isn't supposed to be a recommendation thread, just what we happen to be doing now. I'll open with a few different categories, but go ahead and add other forms of media or ignore options as you feel.

    Book of the day:

    Shadowblack by Sebastien de Castell.

I bought this mostly because I'd read the first book and don't like leaving things unfinished, and I bought the first book because I liked the cover art. It's not bad, but neither is it particularly exceptional. The premise has promise: in the setting magic is cast by forming intricate hand gestures, but the protagonist is almost incapable of using magic so he combines tiny bits of weak magic with sleight of hand, cunning and tricks to overcome his foes. I loved that idea - everything Tavi from Codex Alera was expected to be. It doesn't live up to my hopes. Saving grace is his talking cat companion - stay with me here - this isn't a cutesy fluffy cat. It's a vicious wild beast with a love for murder.

There's a scene early in the second book where the protagonist is getting the shit kicked out of him. Every time the other guy's first connects with his head, his cat rings a bell to amuse itself. 100% cat.

    Show of the day:

    Killjoys

In some ways this is a shittier Firefly. Not especially good or bad either way, but I love a grimy outlaw scifi setting as much as anything else. It doesn't have the polish of The Expanse, but it's an easy watch and I don't regret the time I spent with it. Except the lead female actor's atrocious accent. I regret the hell out of that.

    Game of the day:

    Octopath Traveler demo

I've got high hopes for this. In the move to action-RPGs I've really begun missing the classic turn-based RPGs from when I was younger and had less pixels on my handheld consoles. Anyone remember Golden Sun on GBA? Fun times.

    Film of the day:

    Jumanji

Classic. 'nuff said. It's like the first Jurassic Park film. Feelgood memories. Just as good every time I watch it. Gotta wonder if there are any good Jumanji fics out there - but nah, I doubt it. Could make a damn fine crossover though. With anything.

    Porn of the day:

DO NOT CLICK THIS LINK (unless you are addicted to porn)

Reading really bad HP/SW fanfiction to inspire myself to write my own HP/SW fanfiction for nanowrimo (at 7k right now). I listen to youtube playlist music at work (specifically listening to NJPW themes right now). On the car ride home, I listen to pandora (usually something like sabaton or mors principium est). At home, I watch a lot of twitch. I just finished watching the Mario Maker Coliseum charity stream, and if I play a game, it will probably be Mario Maker, though I have had the urge to play AOE2 recently. Have also been steadily rewatching Critical Role, but the second half kind of drags a bit so it's tedious at times.

I'm commuting 3-5 hours a day, so my main media right now is podcasts.

I'm really into most of the podcasts on The Ringer, mainly the BS podcast, NBA show, NFL show, and occasionally House of Carbs.

I play LoL so The Dive is a favorite of mine too, although that'll be ending for the season soon due the Worlds almost being over.

A really funny but weird one is My dad Wrote a Porno, a British podcast about three friends reading a chapter per podcast of a porno that the main guys dad wrote. The porno is really bad but the podcast is really funny.

Side note, the iPhone podcast app is great!

Currently reading Mass Effect fanfic, Worm Fanfic, HP fanfic, Bleach Fanfic, Naruto Fanfic, and this LitRPG fic that was dropped in IRC the other day. I usually have four or five stories going at any point in time so I don't suffer burn out.

Youtube I subscribe to John Oliver and Colbert so I get their monologues on whatever show subject they're talking about. I watch a shoe restoration channel, because while I don't like shoes, I like watching things be restored.

I follow about 8 different food channels on Youtube.

On Netflix I've been watching BoJack Horseman and loving it.

Actual books, I haven't found anything worth reading in about a year, still looking. Recently finished a re-read of the Long Earth series by Pratchett and that other dude, was a great read, even on the second time through.

Music is the same thing, every day, usually some form of underground rap, hip-hop, and mo-town (my youngest loves it).

For fanfics I've been on something of a PJO bender which is incredible hard to sate. Sewing as how the whole fandom is functionally shit.

For music, recently I've been turned to the excellent work of DragonForce. They are a fantastical metal band. Pretty great. I'm big into Classic Rock if you didn't know, so I'm always recommending Led Zeppelin to anyone who hasn't heard them along with Kansas, Boston, Van Halen, Bad Company, The Doors, The Police, The Animals, and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

For YT , I have not really been into watching YouTube for years now. But I watch a lot of Robbaz when he uploads. I also watch a few other channels, bakerofbake, FrankieOnPCin1080p, and JacksFilms is usually worth watching.

For Netflix, I just wrapped up Parks and Rec for the 2nd time. And decided to pick up some Sherlock for the hell of it. When that's over i will probably watch some Brooklyn99.

For vidyas, usually playing some form of Fallout whether it be 3, 4 or NV. I also of course get pretty into Warframe when I feel like just grinding. Planning to do a Nuzlocke on HG soonish.

For books, I have recently had to read the Scarlet Letter. God awful and do not recommend it if you are not into Romanticism. I also re read the PJO series during a black out. Good shit if you needs a light rewad some time. Going to be grabbing Magnus Chase when I get the chance.

I'm plain vanilla. I read (and have subscriptions to) Washington Post, New York Times, New Yorker, Wall Street Journal, Economist, Los Angeles Times, Onion, and Consumer Reports. I also daily read/listen (for free) Atlantic, Salon, National Review, and NPR.

We don't have television/cable/satellite in our house any more since we realized that 99% of our media viewing was my folks house-sitting and watching Fox/Sinclair or else binge-watching some series or other.

Most of my daily reading is newspapers. I subscribe to the New York Times and read a lot of WaPo as well. The Atlantic is the only magazine I read, but I check out The Economist sometimes when one of my work colleagues finishes with his copy. For radio/listening, I have NPR on a lot at home and at work for background listening. On my commute I listen to a lot of podcasts; On The Media, Radiolab, This American Life, Freakonomics, and Westminster Hour.

Right now, I don't have a book on my docket. I was reading a lot of Bernard Cornwell's Last Kingdom series a couple months back. I'm looking forward to Oathbringer in a couple of weeks, and there's a new Expanse book out in December.

For tv, I DVR a bunch of things during the week and watch them in free time on the weekends, but there's nothing particularly novel in them these days, they're all things in late seasons (NCIS, Blue Bloods, etc.). Just finished Stranger Things on Netflix, looking for other things...

    In short, nothing earth shattering.

Just starting season 4. It's really amazing, I love time travel stories. I wish I discovered it earlier. I especially love the main character Kiera Cameron.

Video Game - Rise of the Tomb Raider on PS4

Lara Croft kicking ass and adventuring n shit. What else needs to be said? I like that the reboot series focuses more on survival.

What are you reading in the PJO fandom? I've been looking for months, couldn't find much, and wound up attempting to write my own.

Stuff. A simplistic post-Giant War setup with a clichéd tragedy that I'll wind up reworking.

I... I'm not DLP ready so I'm not saying more than that xP.

    Erm, I'll have a go I guess.

FanFic: I'm slogging through the Noodlehammer HP thing at present, started OK, getting increasingly shit, but to far in to drop it now. Also 'Flashman and the Throne of Swords'. Well written, but I'm mostly reading it for the novelty value of a Flashman crossover, love those books.

Music: All sorts of shit. Mostly background music for work but today it's been The Pigeon Detectives, The Libertines, The Wombats, The Vaccines, Arctic Monkeys, Courteeners and Viola Beach. Also some Beastie Boys on the radio on the drive home which was a bit out of left field, but that actually suited my mood pretty well.

Magazines: New Scientist and Investors Chronicle are the only regular ones. Occasionally buy Bike or The Field if I have time to kill.

TV: Nothing really. Only thing I've watched recently is a couple seasons of Silicon Valley.

    News: Routers.

Books: Trust Me, I'm a Junior Doctor. Actually quite funny and a good light read to dip in and out of as the mood takes me. Also Janeways' Immunobiology, but that's not exactly for fun.

Trying to avoid starting youtube and video games until I can get my coursework finished for this semester. Going well thus far.

So there you go. My 'exciting' life, in a nutshell.

Fanfiction: Really nothing right now. All of the one's I've read/found are all pretty shit.

Youtube: Definitely some quality Colbert, Oliver, O'Brien. I don't have a netflix, so I get most of my television from youtube.

Music: Mostly French things. Florent Pagny, MIKA, Stromae, Amir. Some other things that I don't really pay attention to. Classical music as well. Piano concertos in particular.

Books: A lot of things by Neil Gaiman. Some of his works are actually quite nice. American Gods, and Neverwhere. Also, Kazuo Ishiguro's Never Let Me go.

Other than that, I just read the TIME magazine once a week.

I've been watching an awful lot of YouTube in the past year. Mostly Nuzlocke series from the likes of TeamFourStar, GameboyLuke and others but oftentimes playthroughs of Paradox games are great, especially Team Double Dragon's HoI4 and CK2 stuff.

Reading... Exclusively fanfic but only if one appears that's halfway decent.

Fanfiction: Not anything at the moment. I'll pop up in WbA every so often if I've got the time to do my usual corrections and if I feel like it.

Music: My 90's JPop fad seems to have mostly passed, so now I'm in between fads. May go back to funk and jazz for a while, may go into an eurobeat phase, depends on what I stumble across.

Magazines: Haven't read any for years now. Don't get the feeling I'm missing out on anything.

TV: Keeping up with Lucifer, Lethal Weapon and Flash.

Anime: I'm a seasonal watcher, mostly. Though I just finished Haikyuu!! rerun - good shit - I'm mostly checking out DBSuper, Mahoujin Guru Guru, Garo, Chuuni Taisen and Netjuu no Susume when they're released.

Books: Finished Ben McIntyre's A Spy Among Friends a few weeks ago, would really recommend checking that out. I have no idea how accurate it is, but it makes for a pretty good read nonetheless. Also at the moment, I'm reading Leigh Barducco's Six of Crows, basically fantasy Ocean's Eleven. "How does that differ from Locke Lamora", I hear you ask? It's shittier, mostly. Characters aren't as interesting, pacing isn't as good, a lot of backstory shoved where it doesn't belong. Decent timekiller, nothing else.

Games: 3DS, mostly. Some Devil Survivor Overclocked because it was on promotion, mostly Dragon Ball Fusions, which is pretty fun, if easy, and can be a bit of a grind.

Been reading Neil Gaiman's The View from the Cheap Seats, a few things from Almost Recommended, and dug through the Dresden WbA for all the good stuff by Water Mage.

On YouTube I've been watching a lot of Demolition Ranch and Jerry Miculek on top of my subscriptions to League content. Stopped the food porn binge for now since I can't eat anything and it makes me hungry.

For comics, I follow the current bi-weekly/monthly runs of Batman, Superman, Action Comics, Detective Comics, Batman Beyond, Spider-Man (Miles Morales) and recently picked up Batman: White Knight.

The only news media I really consume is through checking NY Times a couple of times a day.

On top of that, I read a lot of threads on reddit, mostly League of Legends but some askReddit and r/sysadmin sprinkled in.
