I wrote I haiku and found myself immediately regretting it. In fact you're correct, traditionally a haiku was not only about the seasons but took a far more rigid structure than any of us at DLP have managed.

EDIT: I just realized that Haiku completely ignores the rules set above but then that's the Japanese for you.

The reason why proper Haiku doesn't match up to the 5-7-5 rule is because it's not really syllables, but rather moras. Moras can either be the same as a syllable, or smaller. Some syllables (long syllables) consist of two moras or more.

But playing around with moras are far too hard. When you're just fucking around like we are, syllables are good enough.

It's not even that we're just fucking around and can stick to syllables; a poetic form has been imported into another language/culture, and it's understandable that there will be differences. "Proper haiku" would entail we write them in Japanese. We're already writing haiku in English, so we might as well be a little more lax about the requirements and take haiku in a new direction.

    I think I can say,
You know how I know you're gay,
    I suck at haikus.

Oh and OP, either your trouble with spelling is a rapidly progressing or spontaneous neurologic disorder such as aphasia-dyslexia with paraphasia and agrammatism that developed after writing the intro... or something :facepalm

Except that, you have my welcome, only at the condition you do proper capitalization and at least try some modicum of grammar and spelling, just like you did in your intro.
