    Whelp. Here it is.

    Enjoy your nightmares.

Edit: Yes, I should have mentioned it is the movie and not the game. I figured I'd post it here, though, rather that in the movies section, since it is Pokemon.

Why would I get nightmares from such a fabulous trailer?

Really? The live-action pokemon don't sit in the darkest part of the uncanny valley to you?

Not one bit? And if you look in the Upcoming Movies thread where we're chatting about it I seem to be in the majority.

Also, I thought uncanny valley was for things that look human but aren't quite so it looks off even if you can't say why. Not sure how that would apply to CGI monsters.

Maybe a mod should split this so we can keep the movie discussion separate? @Xiph0 @Palindrome

Anyway, I thought I'd hate it but I don't. The trailer is actually decent looking and did anyone see fifty mile segment of land and mountain just peel up into the sky? Either that's Groudon or some psychic Pokemon shenanigans.

Is the typo in the thread title intentional?

My soul is ready for trouble to be made double.

I am enthusiastic and want it to succeed. Legendary is usually hits, WB is usually misses. So optimistic, but knowing tha the fall will hurt if it sucks.

I have no problems with this Pikachu talking. Unlike the one from that animated movie this one has a good and solid reason to talk.

Ok, this actually looks great. I'll totally watch it!

Ryan Renolds as Pikachu. What could go wrong? The Pokemon do look kinda funny, and the live action thing is just weird, but... sure. I'll watch it.

Leaked transcript of studio board meeting:
"Hey guys we gotta make a movie, what movies do people like?"

"Zootopia, people liked that I think. Cops who are cute animals equal money."

"Blade Runner, rainy city street markets with neon asian signs and shit"

    "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?"

"Stuff with Ryan Reynolds in, my 9 year old loves Deathpool"

    "Pokemon stuff"

"Ok fellas good talk let's combine these things, leverage those synergies, and hope for the best."

This one is worth watching in context of the new movie.

So, I just watched this (waited to get it on dvd).

And I liked it. Yeah, it was a little corny at places, but it was clearly made for someone who grew up with pokemon, but isn't a child. At least a couple of sex jokes, said "damn," that kind of thing.

    What did you guys think?

It’s a worse version of Zootopia but live action with pokemon. Ryan Reynolds was the only one that got a couple of smiles out of me. Disappointed, and ever more so because the potential was obviously there.

I never saw Zootopia, so I can't comment on that.

I suppose part of the reason I liked the movie was because I went into it not expecting much. I was looking for good relative to a pokemon movie, which it delivered.

Finally checked this out because it's up on my totally legal off-brand Netflix of choice. This was way better than a live-action pokemon movie had any right to be. The pokemon looked a bit weird, but also pretty damn good at the same time. Mr Mime is still nightmare fuel, Mewtwo remains psychic Jesus.

I think the film was helped a lot by being a side story. If they made a live-action/CGI version of the original story, i.e. the games, I'd have an impossibly high standard. Literally impossible. Against my better judgement I'd be going in secretly hoping for a mashup of Game of Champions and Game of Thrones.

Defective Pikachu was something I had zero investment in, so the badly done parts were funny and the well done parts an unexpected surprise.

It's a decent timewaster for anyone who grew up with pokemon. I had no expectations, so every drop of enjoyment I got out of this was pure profit. It's not objectively good, but it's fun and has some cool moments for anyone with a case of the 'member berries.
