Welcome to the third quarter of DLP's 2020 fanfiction competition! May 2020 forever remain in hindsight, and may we look back upon this competition at least with great fondness and joy. I've got something special for you all this time, what I'm calling a very corny Redux Deluxe.

    2020 Q3 Competition - Redux Deluxe

    Prompt: ANY past winning prompt.

    1. Harry discovers why Albus doesn't drink
    2. "You're bleeding on my floor."
    3. "Breaking into Snape's office in the middle of the night was a risky move at the best of times..."
    4. Vampires
    5. Romance
    6. Death
    7. Daphne Greengrass
    8. Azkaban
    9. What the Professors get up to in the summers
    10. Ritual Magic
    11. Foreign Magical Regions
    12. Magical Fairy Tale
    13. Abstract Magic
    14. 70 Years Later
    15. Wizards in Space
    16. Heist

    Competition Specific Rules:
    • The ideal is that you will a finish a story you started for a previous competition but were unable to finish/submit.
    • You can't submit the exact same story you submitted previously.
    • You can't submit a story that has had only minor edits since you last submitted it.
    • You CAN submit a story with significant edits since you last submitted - we can debate significant if needed, but if you think you're 'toeing the line' on this part then just don't.
    • You may submit a maximum of 2 stories.
    • You must state at the beginning of your story which prompt you are using (you all need to title your shit anyway - add this as a byline under it)

    Word Count: 0-17,500 words

    Deadline: September 1st September 15th

    Voting:
As per usual you will review each story then come vote in this thread. You do not have to read an entire story to review it, but you must still write a decent review on what you do read (and it's preferred that you read the entire story, just understandable that you don't want to read 15k words of something you hate). You will then come to this thread and distribute 7 points (subject to change if we get <4 entries) between your winners. See previous competitions for examples.

We've got four entries folks! Review the stories then distribute those 5 points between the four stories as you see fit in this thread! Reviews close October 1st.

Note: Authors can vote, though not for themselves. However please consider reviewing even if you choose not to distribute points and vote - your fellow competitors are doing this in large part for the feedback they'll be getting. If you review and don't vote then yeah, it might give away the fact that you entered... but it won't tell anyone which story is yours.

One thing that has already been asked - if you wrote a story for 70 years later that was only 1k words long, it does count as significant if you expand that story into 10k. It just needs to feel like a 'new' story in some way, not an old one that's had it's most major flaws pasted over. I'll only disqualify if this is blatant - voting from reviewers may also take it into account.

Ideally though this is a chance to submit a story you didn't get to submit before because you weren't able to finish it.

Nope? I read Hunger Games but wasn't a huge fan of it (it was okay) and don't remember details like this.

Edit: Unless I will get internet points for this being on purpose, in which case it definitely was.

This is a fantastic idea! I have a couple of stories I started but missed the deadline for and this felt little inclination to pick up again. Now that it's an option I can dust them off and actually wrap them up.

Awesome. I completely forgot about the heist prompt until stories were in. Definitely gonna get back to one of my ideas for that

Lol why is the deadline and wordcount requirements in invisi-text? Aight I'll see about actually finishing that Azkaban story from a while back then.

Ooh, another chance for me to not follow through on good intentions. Am I correct that the given word count (0–17,500) applies to all prompts, even the ones that originally had different parameters?

    Yes

Hence the ability to extend a story originally 3k into one 13k and have it be different enough to qualify.

It’s not invisible if you use the standard DLP color scheme. Others have complained about it being impossible to see in others before though.

Hm. Two different attempts that I wasn't able to finish come to mind, but one of them I ended up putting in the WbA. I imagine I can't finish that one and submit it? Not a huge deal, as the "You're bleeding on my floor" draft is still sitting in my Google Docs, but I'm actually halfway through the Daphne Greengrass one lmfao.

Whatever version you submit to the competition should be 'sufficiently different' from anything you've got posted elsewhere. The idea is still to do something new, after all, though admittedly it's a lot easier this time for people who have already been working on stories.

outline complete. Now to finish this weird mess. Goal is to be ready to submit by august 18th.
(and by saying this I humbly beg anyone to bug me to actually finish it if I fall behind.)
