    For what it's worth, this is now considered complete. I've absolutely no plans to finish By Heaven and Hell, completely lost all interest in the plot, the characters, the grand scheme of things. So I've decided to prune the three chapters that were there and just leave it as is.     I don't know about that. There's an emphasis on adrenaline, but I don't think it's overwhelming. The thing that most people call me out on is that there's at least one fight scene in every chapter, but each chapter is 10k words long. If I'd made them 3k long as I'd originally intended, they'd have only been one every three or thereabouts. There's plot there, there's even characters, it's just buried beneath an awful lot of action.

    This was one of my biggest fears, I'm not normally a huge fan of divinity in Harry Potter, which was why I wanted to try and broach it here. I hope I manage to pull it off in a passable way. Thanks for the compliments. I wanted to mark a transition here in the way Harry thinks, as well as change the genre slightly. If I'm subconsciously emulating Max Payne, that's fine by me.     The title seems to be the thing that puts people off the most. Yes, the writing in the earlier chapters is dire, but then I was a whole year younger. If I had more time and was so inclined, I'd probably go back and tighten up the English and form. I'd quite like to finish it first.     I do understand what you're saying and I've come to the same conclusions regarding my writing style. All I can say is that I'm trying to walk a fine line between immersing my reader in the story and providing them with enough information to comprehend the story. I think it's just a matter of taste, some people have told me my writing is too scant of detail, others that it's too wordy and others that its perfect. I hope you do try again with Chapter 2, it picks the pace up slightly.

    Lots of people have had the same comment mike, but essentially for two reasons; 1) it's much easier to fight magic with magic and 2) bullets are faster than magic. Also, obviously it was my concious choice as an author to demonstrate the blending of the two worlds, to provide a sense of gritty warfare that I feel it's very difficult to achieve with magic (while spells are pretty flashes of light, it's hard to think of gunfire, shells, bombs, etc as anything other than deadly) and because...

    I changed the summary, I hope it sounds less Star War-esque now. Is it a sign of my misplaced Sci-Fi loyalties that when writing the first one Star Wars never crossed my mind, but instead I was worried about the WH40K parallels?
