    Finished it, and I'm not sure exactly which way I feel about it. I don't think it was as good as the other books, but I'm not sure I'd call it particularly bad. It had some good moments, and a lot of ho hum moments. Too much needless romance drama. And yes, it did seem at times as if the book went out of it's way to nerf Percy a bit. Maybe the next book will make up for that? [SPOILER]

    BTW, the first chapter of The Mark of Athena has been posted on the books website, it's from Annabeth's PoV. I really wish this series was all Percy's PoV. Percy was awesome, and while some of the new characters are interesting and stuff, I don't like any as much as Percy.

    Yeah. In the Lost Hero, I didn't think too much of it because you had Zeus helping out with the master bolt frying one giant to help kill him, and Hera using all her power to scare off the other. So in both instances, you had a fair bit of godly power helping out. In this book though, it all just seemed so 'meh' as far as the gods help.

    Well, from what we've read so far we know that Gaea was working to bring back the giants as long ago as WWII, and likely had plans in motion for awhile before Hazel gets involved. So with Juno, and presumably the others, focused on Gaea and the giants, that would explain perhaps how the Titans, specifically Kronos, were able to gain power without alerting much attention. As for easily defeating the Giants, well, we must assume that they're getting a bit more help from the gods. So far...

    Huh. I got an e-mail tonight from Amazon that they've updated SoN due to the aforementioned typos. It said to just reply to the email with 'Yes'. Will have to check it out in a bit and do a reread, hopefully those are all fixed. Was very annoying. Yeah, as I said in my previous post, it annoyed me a bit too. I would much rather just Percy's PoV. Never bothered me in aSoIaF, but don't care for it in the HoO series or that Egyptian series. Must be the way Riordan writes it. Or...

    Gotta say, I liked it quite a bit. Was excellent getting to see Percy again, that alone made it way better than the previous book. [SPOILER] One other thing, whoever did the Kindle version really sucks. There were numerous times where either there was no space between two words or a letter from one word would be with the word before/after it. i.e. 'now all...' was 'no wall...' Kind of annoying.

    Have you got the email receipt yet? If so then I don't know why it wouldn't show up yet. I had to go do a sync on my Kindle for it to download. Maybe it's a few hours earlier for Kindle users? Don't think I've ever heard of them doing that, but I dunno. [SPOILER]

    I expected a Norse series, and I'll be interested to see if it's actually any good. Love Greek series, but the Egyptian one never really grabbed me. Dunno. Norse mythology has a lot of potential, and is often overlooked. Especially in comparison to Greek/Roman and Egyptian. Wonder what other series he might be willing to do?

    Yeah, that's sort of what I was saying in my last post. Combine those two ideas together and I really think you might just have something there. As for the fanfic community, yeah, hopefully. Of course PJO is nowhere near as popular as HP so it will likely never be anywhere near as big. And the complete failure of the movie means that lots more people won't find the series that way as I think many did with HP. I did, at least. I'll read it later when I have time, but I really do hope...

    That could actually work, though I think he'd still be raised as a half-blood but knowing about it all of his life and with others (some with similar abilities) around to help him learn his powers, he could be massively powerful fairly early on. Which I suppose could lead to the next one... If done right, I think this one could also be quite decent. Combine the two of them and I could certainly see it happening.

    That could actually be a great explanation for the number of Half-Bloods that joined him. Especially if the Roman camp wasn't as hostile towards him as the Greek camp. Though I don't think Percy met all of the Greek Half-Bloods. I mean there would be some that left before he came there, and others who were the children of lesser gods who never went to camp but weren't hunted too much. As somebody else said, there are fics out there about that but I don't recall any decent ones. Then...

    The few PJ fanfics I've tried to read have been...not so good. Haven't really seen any good PJ/HP crossovers either. I have started a HP/PJ crossover of my own but it's not done yet so hasn't been posted at FFN. It's in WbA somewhere. It's sort of on the back-burner though as I'm working on other stories first. I'd like to see some good PJ fics though.

    About the Ares curse, it hit when he was battling Atlas at the end of Titan's Curse. That's why he freed Artemis and took on Atlas' curse. As for the Curse of Achilles, I think the main things are that the one spot is extra sensitive (i.e. Achilles could be killed by an arrow in his heel) and that inevitably he will be struck down. No matter how invulnerable he is, he'll always have that weakness and one day it will be his demise.

    That's sort of my hope as well. Based on the hints we receive from Jason about how they go about doing things there, it should hopefully serve to up Percy's badassity a few notches Like fat camp, only with Romans. Or you could read the book and find out.

    He's not a damsel in distress. I can't really say without giving away some things though. Also the next book is likely to be Percy centric, or at least heavily feature him I'd guess.     I started to read The Red Pyramid but then got distracted by other things and haven't managed to get back to it yet. It wasn't completely horrible or anything, but I don't think I enjoyed it as much as Percy Jackson. Perhaps partly because I enjoy Greek mythology more than Egyptian.

    I tend to agree with this. She more or less gave up everything for him, only to be treated like crap. Then she has to live for two thousand years with everybody going on and on about how great a hero he was. In fact, quite a few would be inclined to feel sorry for him because his life was ruined by Hera and he was forced to endure the Labours. I can see how it would make somebody bitchy.

    I think with both the characters being older, Riordan's son being older, and the intended audience being older that the next series will hopefully be significantly better. And I certainly agree about there not being much in the way of good PJO fanfics. I might go ahead and post my Harry/Percy crossover in WBA, but I just haven't had much time over the last few months to do any writing. Dunno when I'll be able to pick that up. Might do that later today or tomorrow though, just to get...

    Perhaps some people simply enjoy an entertaining read and/or Greek mythology? If I want to read something that will make me think then I don't turn to Harry Potter. I doubt many people do, in fact. I'm not saying that Harry Potter doesn't have more depth to it than Percy Jackson and the Olympians, because it does. But don't go blowing HP out of proportion, it too is a kids book written for kids. Besides, Greek mythology is cool no matter how old you are. Fact.

    Oh I hate that too, I really do. In PJO I think he's pretty well done, all things considered. He's not evil, although the first book hints at it in the same way as Snape in PS. He's not the happiest of fellows, which is understandable considering his situation. But he keeps his word and does help out in the end. He also cares very much for his children and tries to protect them, and loved their mother very much before Big Z killed her. Well, it's mostly about some young kids,...
