    I liked the dementor treatment, despite its cliche'-ness. He highlighted the inherent dumbness of the dementor's definition in canon. I mean, they supposedly eat happy thoughts, but their victims are assaulted by BAD memories. Just doesn't jibe, imho. However, LW's description probably more closely described a lethifold than a dementor. I still liked it though. The best thing about this fic continues to be the riddle posed by both Dumbledore and Riddle, as well as their interactions....

    I just don't get it. Neither the Weasley rat or the Sirius/Pettigrew divergence. If it is inconsequential to the plot, then it's OK. Stupid and unlikely maybe, but not rage-inducing. But if LW is trying to circumvent the canon secret-keeper plot, then I just don't get it. The rat thing was worse because it was mocking and insulting. This is just....needless. Will stay tuned to see if there is a method to this madness, but my hopes are few.

    The story is back to being (quasi) serious in the latest chapter. Or, the humor is one of those secret mysteries buried in the text that must be thoroughly investigated before it can be revealed.     I agree with Sesc that the Bill Weasley thing is pretty dumb. If it were lampooning canon, that would be fine. But the Pettigrew betrayal is not one of the plot holes or cliche's that merit that kind of casual dismissal. In fact, much of this latest chapter is flavored like a canon parody. While I don't have a problem with that generally, it is getting harder to jibe the fluxtuating tones of this story.

    The chapter was OK. I liked the disassociative process for accomplishing the impossible. STILL don't like the way that transfiguration is handled in this fic. It is unnecessarily rational and lacks the magical mystique. Would have made more sense to leave it canon and then contrast it with more rational notions.

    I actually liked the last chapter far more than some of the previous ones. To me, it highlights Harry's ridiculous arrogance and at the same time upholds him as a sympathetic character. It also points out that magic can trump uber-rationality, in regards to legilimency, at least at Harry's level. The part where Snape mentioned Harry's near-death was chilling and well done.     Gotcha. Well, that's the problem and the solution Pers. Don't pay attention to the author's views outside the story. But, I can see what you are saying. Because of the lecturing (preaching) in the story, we are thrust into the author's views. I'm only able to continue being a fan of this story because I skim those bits and view this as a crack!fic.     I like this story. I think I'll just continue to pretend that this is a slightly crack!fic whose protagonist's application of rationality to HP Verse is entertaining because of the inherent contradictions. I'm pretty sure that is what he's intended, rather than some serious philosophical or scientific treatment.

    I find the many contradictions in this to be intriguing. For instance, Minerva is clever and rational, while Dumbledore is inscrutably obtuse.     I'm going to go out on a limb and agree with Taure a little bit. The changes the author made to the limitations of transfiguration are pretty bad. Unlike Taure, I have never believed that transfigurations were permanent without some magical maintenance. However, limiting them in such a severe way is a bit of punt by the author to conform to scientific principles.     I get that. I'm not even suggesting that what I wrote is particularly good, just that you could illustrate the basic points of 1) rationalist philosophy 2) dark lord prevention 3) humor, without getting into these long, twisty diatribes. In this case, I think it made Harry out to be too angsty to fit the rational!Harry mold.

    What would the point be of a hat with memory, if it could not relate it? If sorting was a mirror function, why would it even need it? Does not compute. THe whole thing might make sense if you were to write it out as an equation (but, I doubt it), but it doesn't make it any easier to read and could be explained much more succinctly. What might have been more interesting (and funny) is if Harry, confronted by a mirror intelligence, could have kept the argumentation to something like..."...

    Exactly. I read some of his other fiction, and I liked it. But, I was basically forced to skim when a character started to spontaneously hold forth on the dry minutae of scientific rationale.     Okay. So, he's not a psychopath. But neither is he portrayed as a ducal heir blinded by entitlement. Clearly he has been tutored in manipulation. That implies that people don't give him whatever he wants. Someone with that kind of training, would have to understand other people's motivations and differing worldviews, even in an insular society like wizardom. If everyone viewed things like that, then there would be no need for manipulation, only negotiation.

    It's not that I object to a story where Draco thinks this way, or even that Draco is this sophisticated? or tutored in manipulation and whatnot. My objection is more that he is characterized that way and STILL blurts it out in front of Harry.     I like this story. But, I disagree with the last few posters. As a preposterous crackfic/Braniac!Harry, I thought it was great. Even the Malkin's scene, where Draco was implausibly, but still entertainingly, engaging, I still enjoyed it. Normally I fail a fic for making Draco tolerable so early in the story. But, since the fic was original and humorous and obviously over-the-top, I didn't need to suspend my disbelief. But, the tone of the last chapter was too serious to keep my disbelief...

    Excellent read. For the life of me I cannot understand the incessant nitpicking of reviewers over the most inconsequential of points. WTF? Those things are what makes a story unique, and in this case, funny. I thought that Harry's interaction with McGonagall was total win.
